TONIGHT ON "NEWSWATCH,"

THE HIGH COURT HEARS

ARGUMENTS IN THE FIGHT OVER

GAY MARRIAGE.

WE'LL LOOK AT THE CASE THAT

IS DIVIDING MUCH OF

AMERICA.

Wendy: PLUS, WHY SOME

SAY RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IS

BEING THREATENED AT THE

HIGHEST LEVELS OF THE

AMERICAN GOVERNMENT.

Mark: AND AFTER BEING

OUTCAST FOR HIS FAITH, HOW

ONE MAN'S TESTIMONY HELPS

BRING HIS FAMILY TOGETHER

AND TO CHRIST.

ALL THIS AND MORE TONIGHT ON

"NEWSWATCH."

GOOD EVENING.

I'M MARK MARTIN.

Wendy: AND I'M WENDY

GRIFFITH.

EMOTIONS FLEW HIGH AT THE

SUPERIOR COURT, WHERE THE

JUSTICES ARE EXAMINING THE

ISSUE OF SAME-SEX MARRIAGE.

TODAY MARKED THE START OF

THEIR DELIBERATING PROCESS.

Mark: AS JOHN JESSUP

EXPLAINS, BOTH SIDES

ACKNOWLEDGE IT MAY END WITH

A SWEEPING RULING THAT COULD

RESULT IN REDEFINING

MARRIAGE.

Reporter: TWO DAYS, TWO

HEARINGS, AND TWO POLAR

POINTS OF VIEW.

AND BOTH SIDES DELIVERED

STRONG CASES TO THE COURT.

BLACK, WHITE, MARRIAGE IS

A CIVIL RIGHT.

Reporter: TODAY THE

JUSTICES TOOK UP THE

CHALLENGE TO PROPOSITION 8,

CALIFORNIA'S 2008

VOTER-APPROVED BALLOT THAT

DEFINES MARRIAGE BETWEEN A

MAN AND A WOMAN, EFFECTIVELY

BANS GAY MARRIAGE.

AFTER ARGUMENTS, ATTORNEYS

ON BOTH SIDES SOUNDED

CAUTIOUSLY OPTMISTIC.

WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE

WHAT THE UNITED STATES

SUPERIOR COURT IS GOING TO

DO, BUT WE'RE VERY, VERY

GRATIFIED THEY LISTENED,

THEY HEARD, THEY ASKED HARD

QUESTIONS.

AND THERE IS NO DENYING

WHERE THE RIGHT IS.

A VICTORY HERE FOR US

MEANS THAT THIS ISSUE

RETURNS TO THE PEOPLE AND

THEIR LEGISLATURES AND THEIR

ELECTIVE REPRESENTATIVES,

WHERE THE DEBATE BELONGS.

Reporter: BUT THE TONE

OUTSIDE THE COURT WAS MORE

RESOUNDING.

HEY, HEY, GO HOME.

Reporter: EARLY THIS

MORNING, OPPONENTS OF GAY

MARRIAGE MET ON THE NATIONAL

MALL TO MARCH IN SUPPORT OF

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME,

AND IT IS IMPORTANT TO MY

CHILDREN, THAT THE

DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE

REMAINS BETWEEN ONE MAN AND

ONE WOMAN.

Reporter: OLD AND

YOUNG, THEY CARRIED SIGNS

AND WALKED HAND-IN-HAND TO

THE SUPREME COURT, WHERE

THEY CLASHED WITH PROTESTORS

RALLYING FOR SAME-SEX

MARRIAGE.

ONE WOMAN, ONE MATE.

NO HATE.

WE DISAGREE.

Reporter: WHAT HAS

BROUGHT YOU TO TEARS?

I WANT TO PERSONALLY

REPENT TO EVERYTHING I'VE

DONE TO THIS COUNTRY.

IF WE DO NOT REPENT OF OUR

SINS, WE WILL NOT RECOVER.

AMERICA WILL NOT RECOVER.

Reporter: SO FIRST

STREET IN FRONT OF THE

SUPREME COURT, IS MUCH LIKE

THE DIVIDE BETWEEN THE

COUNTRY.

ON ONE SIDE YOU HAVE

SUPPORTERS OF TRADITIONAL

MARRIAGE.

ON THE OTHER, YOU HAVE THOSE

IN FAVOR OF SAME-SEX

MARRIAGE.

SUPPORTERS OF SAME-SEX

MARRIAGE RALLIED AND CHANTED

FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY.

THE FIRST OPENLY GAY BISHOP

TOLD CBN NEWS THAT THE FIGHT

IS REALLY ABOUT LOVE.

AT THE END OF THE DAY,

GOD IS LOVE.

LOOK AT OUR RELATIONSHIPS

AND LOOK AT OUR FAMILIES AND

TELL US IF YOU DON'T SEE

LOVE THERE.

IF LOVE IS THERE, GOD IS

THERE.

Reporter: PASTOR JIM

GARLO IS ONE OF THE PASTORS

THAT PUSHED PROPOSITION 8 TO

A VOTE.

HE SAYS THE FIGHT OVER GAY

MARRIAGE IS ABOUT EXPANDING

A LIBERAL AGENDA.

THERE ISN'T THAT MUCH

INTEREST IN MARRIAGE AND

COMMITMENT AND MANOGAMY.

IT ISN'T THERE.

Reporter: OTHER

CONSERVATIVES, LIKE RYAN

ANDERSON, ARE TRYING TO TURN

THE TIDE OF PUBLIC OPINION.

CO-AWRNCO-AUTHOR OF THE

BOOK "WHAT IS MARRIAGE?"

HE ARGUES THAT MARRIAGE IS

ALREADY IN JEOPARDY.

SAME-SEX MARRIAGES ARE

NOT TO BLAME FOR THE

PROBLEMS WE FACE IN

AMERICA.

BUT THE QUESTION WE HAVE TO

ASK IS DO WE WANT TO DOUBLE

DOWN ON THE MISTAKES OF THE

PAST 40 YEARS?

OR DO WE WANT TO START

RECOVERING A SOUND

UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT

MARRIAGE IS AND WHY IT

MATTERS?

Reporter: BUT FOR THE

BISHOP'S DAUGHTER, OPENING

THE MARRIAGE FOR HER DAD AND

HIS PARTNER, WHAT MAKE THE

INSTITUTION STRONGER FOR

EVERYONE.

THAT LOVE IS AS

SUPPORTIVE AND LOVING AS

LOVE FOR STRAIGHT PARENTS.

I AM PROUD TO BE HERE WITH

MY DAD.

IT IS REALLY EXCITING.

Reporter: JOHN JESSUP,

CBN NEWS, THE SUPREME

COURT.

Wendy: AS THE SUPREME

COURT CONSIDERS THE LEGALITY

OF CALIFORNIA'S PROP 8, BOTH

SIDES ARE MAKING THEIR

VOICES HEARD IN SAN

FRANCISCO.

SUPPORTERS OF SAME-SEX

MARRIAGE MARCHED AT CITY

HALL IN ONE OF THE LARGEST

RALLIES CASTER STREET HAS

SEEN IN YEARS.

MEANWHILE, THE CITY'S

ARCHBISHOP IS SPEAKING OUT

ON WHAT IS BEST FOR

CHILDREN.

HE DISAGREES WITH RECENT

CLAIMS BY THE MEDICAL

COMMUNITY THAT PARENTS'

SEXUAL ORIENTATION DOES NOT

AFFECT A CHILD.

ONLY A MAN AND A WOMAN

CAN UNITE THEIR BODIES IN

SUCH A WAY IT CAN PRODUCE

NEW LIFE.

WE SHOULD NOT CHANGE THE

DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE IN

SUCH A WAY THAT WE ENSHRINE

IN LAW IN PRINCIPLE THAT A

CHILD DOES NOT DESERVE A

MOTHER AND A FATHER.

Wendy: THE ARCHBISHOP

WORRIES WHAT THE COURT'S

RULING WOULD MEAN FOR THE

CHURCH'S TEACHINGS.

HE SAYS THE CHURCH COULD BE

IDENTIFIED AS BACKWARD AND

PREJUDICE.

WHAT WE ARE TEACHING IS

BIGATRY AND DISCRIMINATION.

WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT HOW

RACIAL BIGOT IS TREATED IN

THE COUNTRY TODAY.

Wendy: MEANWHILE, MORE

DEMOCRATIC SENATORS ARE

VOICING THEIR SUPPORT FOR

GAY MARRIAGE.

THREE SENATORS HAVE ALL

ANNOUNCED THEIR NEW

VIEWPOINTS.

ON HIS Facebook PAGE,

WARNER SAYS LIKE MANY

AMERICANS, HIS VIEWS ON THE

ISSUE HAVE EVOLVED, AND IT

IS MY EFFORTS TO PROMOTE

EQUALITY AND OPPORTUNITY FOR

EVERYONE.

THE GOVERNOR OF NORTH

DAKOTA HAS SIGNED INTO LAW

YOU LEGISLATION EFFECTIVELY

BANNING MOST ABORTIONS IN

THE STATE.

ONE OUTLAWS THE ABORTION IF

A FETAL HEARTBEAT COULD BE

DETECTED.

AND ANOTHER MAKES NORTH

DAKOTA THE FIRST STATE TO

BAN ABORTIONS BASED ON

GENETIC DEFECTS, LIKE DOWN

SYNDROME.

AND THEY WANT DOCTORS

PERFORMING THE PROCEDURES TO

HAVE ADMITTING PRIVILEGES.

IN WASHINGTON, CONCERNS

ABOUT THREATS TO RELIGIOUS

FREEDOM IN THE U.S. HAVE

REACHED SOME OF THE HIGHEST

LEVELS.

Wendy: A SPECIAL CIVIL

RIGHTS COMMISSION IS LOOKING

INTO WAYS AMERICA MAY BE

DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ITS

OWN RELIGIOUS BELIEVERS.

PAUL STRAND REPORTS.

Reporter: THE U.S.

COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS

IS BEST KNOWN FOR ITS WORK

FIGHTING RACIAL

DISCRIMINATION.

BUT PETER KERSINOW IS SO

WORRIED ABOUT RELIGIOUS

DISCRIMINATION, HE CALLED

FOR A MEETING.

OTHERS SAY IT IS MUCH ADO

ABOUT NOTHING.

SOME PEOPLE LOOK AT

DISPUTES OVER, SAY, CROSSES

OR 10 COMMANDMENTS IN A

COURTHOUSE, OR PRAYER BEFORE

A CITY HALL MEETING THAT

THEY HAVE STRUCK DOWN.

Reporter: A MAIN

EMPHASIS OF THE HEARING WAS

DISCRIMINATION STUDENT

RELIGIOUS GROUPS HAVE FELT

ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES.

AS UNIVERSITIES LIKE

VANDERBILT, THEY HAVE BEEN

STRUCK DOWN FOR SAYING WHO

CAN LEAD THEIR GROUPS.

BUT THE GROUPS SAY IF

THEY'RE BIBLE-BASED, THEY

CAN'T ALLOW PEOPLE TO LEAD

WHO THWART THAT BIBLE'S

AUTHORITY IN THINGS LIKE --

EVERYTHING FROM SEXUAL

CHASTITY TO OTHER ISSUES.

Reporter: STUDENTS

COMMENTING THEY FEEL

DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BY

COLLEGES OUT TO STOP

DISCRIMINATION.

THE REPEATED THEME YOU

HEAR IS THEY'RE BEING

MARGINAL-IZED, AND

MARGINAL-IZE MARGINALIZED

OR DISCRIMINATED AGAINST.

IF YOU TAKE AID FROM THE

GOVERNMENT, WHETHER THAT IS

MATERIAL AID, LIKE MONEY OR

SOME TYPE OF OFFICIAL STAMP

OF RECOGNITION, IT IS TO BE

EXPECTED THERE WILL BE

REGULATIONS AND CONTROLS

ACCOMPANYING THAT.

Reporter: AND HOWARD

SAYS SOME HAVE FELT SOME

REAL DISCRIMINATION AGAINST

THEM.

THEY ARE MARGINALIZING

PEOPLE OF FAITH.

Reporter: AND HE POINTS

TO THE MANDATE AS A WHOLE

NEW LEVEL OF ASSAULT ON WHAT

MANY AMERICANS FEEL IS THEIR

LIBERTY, BEING FORCED TO

SUBSIDIZE CONTRACEPTIONS

THAT COULD CAUSE ABORTIONS.

THE H.H.S. MANDATE WAS

MAYBE A FLAG TO LET US KNOW

AND ALERT US WE NEED TO BE

PAYING GREATER ATTENTION TO

THIS.

Reporter: PAUL STRAND,

CBN NEWS, WASHINGTON.

Mark: THE INTERNAL

REVENUE SERVICE IS

APOLOGIZING TO TAXPAYERS FOR

WASTING MONEY ON A VIDEO

PARITY OF STAR TREK.

I.R.S. EMPLOYEES MADE THE

6-MINUTE VIDEO IN-HOUSE FOR

ABOUT $60,000.

ALL IT HAS EARNED IS A

REBUKE FROM CONGRESS.

ACTING COMMISSIONER STEVEN

MILLER SAYS THE VIDEO WAS

MADE THREE YEARS AGO FOR

TRAINING PURPOSES, BUT

CRITICS SAY IT DOES NOT HAVE

ANY TRAINING VALUE AT ALL.

BACK IN RUSSIA, I DREAMED

SOME DAY I WOULD BE RICH AND

FAMOUS.

ME, TOO.

THAT'S WHY I BECAME A PUBLIC

SERVANT.

Mark: WOW, I THROW UP

MY HANDS AS WELL.

MILLER SAYS TRAINING

PROCEDURES HAVE CHANGED IN

RECENT YEARS, AND THAT VIDEO

WOULD NOT BE MADE TODAY.

Wendy: OKAY.

NORTH KOREA IS REDDING ITS

MILITARY FOR POTENTIAL

STRIKES ON U.S. BASES.

IT IS CALLING FOR ANG

STRATEGIC AND LONG-RANGE

ROCKETS TO BE PREPARED TO

STRIKE GUAM, AND MAINLAND

KOREA AND AMERICA.

RECENTLY NORTH KOREA SAID IT

WOULD LAUNCH A NUCLEAR

ATTACK AGAIN U.S. AND SOUTH

KOREA BECAUSE OF SANCTIONS

AGAINST ITS NUCLEAR

PROGRAM.

Mark: EGYPT'S TOP

PROSECUTOR HAS ISSUED ARREST

WARRANTS FOR FIVE PROMINENT

ACTIVISTS.

THEY WARNED THAT THE MOVE

COULD BE THE START OF AN

INTIMIDATION CAMPAIGN.

A SPOKESMAN FOR THE

OPPOSITION SAYS THEY FEEL

THREATENED AND EXPECT THE

WORST.

THE OPPOSITION CHARGES THAT

EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT MOHAMMED

MORSI AND THE MUSLIM

BROTHERHOOD HAVE FAILED TO

TAKE ON EGYPT'S MOST

DIFFICULT PROBLEMS AND ARE

SIMPLY TRYING TO GAIN A

MONOPOLY ON POWER.

Wendy: COMING UP, WE'LL

LOOK AT THE FINDING OF A

2013 DATE OF THE BIBLE

SURVEY.

WERM

Wendy: THE BIBLE MINI

SERIES CONTINUES TO TOP THE

CHARTS ON THE HISTORY

CHANNEL, LEAVING HOLLYWOOD

AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA

BAFFLED.

THIS WEEK AN EDITOR WITH THE

HUFFINGTON POST SAYS

BIBLICAL FILMS HAVE NOT BEEN

SUCCESSFUL IN DECADES.

BUT MARK BURNETT SAYS TV

CREWS DON'T MATTER.

HE SAYS MAKING THE BIBLE HAS

BEEN A GROWING EXPERIENCE

AND MORE OF A SPIRITUAL THAN

A COMMERCIAL CALLING.

NEARLY 13 MILLION VIEWERS

WATCHED THE SERIES'

PREMIER.

Mark: IS THE BIBLE

LOSING ITS INFLUENCE IN

AMERICA?

A NEW REPORT RAISES THE

QUESTION.

THE A.B.S. RELEASED ITS

ANNUAL THE STATE OF THE

BIBLE REPORT.

AMONG THE KEY FINDINGS, 77%

OF THOSE SURVEYED BELIEVED

VALUES AND MORALS IN THE

U.S. ARE DECLINING.

ONE-THIRD OF THEM SAY IT IS

BECAUSE WE DON'T READ THE

BIBLE ENOUGH.

THE SURVEY ALSO REVEALS A

GAP BETWEEN BELIEFS AND

ACTION.

66% SAY THEY BELIEVE THE

BIBLE HAS EVERYTHING A

PERSON NEEDS TO LIVE A

MEANINGFUL LIFE.

BUT 58% SAY THEY DON'T WANT

THE WISDOM AND ADVICE THAT

THE BIBLE HAS TO OFFER.

AND 57% SAY THEY READ THE

SCRIPTURES FEWER THAN FIVE

TIMES A YEAR.

Wendy: AND JOINING US

NOW A JEFF MORIN OF THE

AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY.

JEFF, LOOKING AT THESE

FINDINGS, SOME MIGHT

CONCLUDE THAT THE BIBLE IS

LOSING ITS INFLUENCE IN

AMERICA.

IS THAT THE CASE?

NO, IT'S NOT THE CASE.

THE BIBLE STILL REMAINS A

BELOVED BOOK IN AMERICA.

IT IS THE MOST BOOK -- THE

MOST BURNED AND BANISHED,

BUT THE MOST CHERISHED BOOK

WE HAVE.

88% OF AMERICANS HAVE A

BIBLE THEY CALL THEIR OWN.

THERE IS AN AVERAGE OF FOUR

PER HOUSEHOLD.

WE WATCHED THIS LAST YEAR,

PEOPLE REPORTED ONE IN SIX

AMERICANS, IN FACT, BOUGHT A

NEW BIBLE.

IT CONTINUES TO HAVE STRONG

FAVOR AND INFLUENCE ACROSS

OUR COUNTRY.

Wendy: AND THE REPORT

SHOWS AN INCREASE IN THE

NUMBER OF AMERICANS WHO ARE

ANTAGONISTIC TOWARDS THE

BIBLE.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

OUR 2013 STUDY DOES SHOW

A NATION DIVIDED, AND THE

CRACKS ARE SHOWING.

WE LOOK AT THE POSITIVE

INFORMATION THAT IS

AVAILABLE ABOUT THE BIBLE,

BUT ALSO THERE ARE

CHALLENGES.

SO THERE ARE SIX MILLION

MORE, FROM LAST YEAR TO THIS

YEAR -- SIX MILLION MORE

WHAT WE CALL BIBLE

ANTAGONISTS.

THEY'RE NOT JUST NEUTRAL ON

THE BIBLE, BUT ARE AGAINST

READING THE BIBLE.

THAT IS ALARMING FOR US.

WE ALSO LOOK AT THE NUMBER

OF YOUNGER AMERICANS, THOSE

IN THE MILLENNIUM, 18 TO 29

RANGE, WHO READ THE BIBLE

VERY RARELY.

ALMOST SEVEN IN 10 OF THE

YOUNG ADULTS.

THESE ARE SIGNS OF CONCERN

FOR US IN A VERY DIVIDED

AMERICAN LANDSCAPE.

Wendy: JEFF, I GUESS IT

IS NOT THAT SURPRISING THAT

YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE NOT

READING THE BIBLE AS MUCH AS

OLDER FOLKS.

BUT THOSE WHO DO READ IT,

ACCORDING TO THE STUDY, ARE

SEEKING ADVICE ON PARENTING,

RELATIONSHIPS, AND FAMILY

MATTERS, SO WHAT DOES THAT

TELL US?

IT SAYS THAT THE BIBLE IS

BEING USED IN THE WAY I

THINK GOD INTENDED IT, FOR

VERY PRACTICAL, EVERYDAY

THINGS.

IT HAS GREAT COUNSEL.

IT HAS GREAT WISDOM ON VERY

SPECIFIC THINGS.

WHAT IS INTERESTING, EVEN

FOR THE NUMBER I GAVE OF

YOUNG ADULTS WHO ARE NOT

READING THE BIBLE, THE

THINGS THEY LOOK FOR ARE THE

ANSWERS THAT THEY NEED FOR

THEIR LIFE TODAY.

AND MANY OF THOSE ADULTS --

YOUNG ADULTS AND OLDER

ADULTS, ARE WATCHING THE

BIBLE ON TELEVISION AS WELL

RIGHT NOW, THE INCREDIBLY

POPULAR MINI SERIES.

Wendy: WHEN I TRAVEL, I

HAVE MY APP ON MY iPHONE,

BUT I CARRY MY BIG BIBLE,

BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO BE

WITHOUT IT.

FAR AND WIDE, PEOPLE

STILL READ THE BIBLE,

LOOKING FOR THE WORDS OF

JESUS.

AND THAT'S GREAT.

BUT WE'RE SEEING A RISE IN

WHAT I CALL SUPPLEMENTAL

BIBLE READING, THE DIGITAL

BIBLES.

Wendy: JEFF MORIN,

THANKS SO MUCH FOR JOINING

US.

IT'S GREAT TO BE WITH

YOU.

Mark: UP NEXT, WHY ONE

MAN'S FAITH MADE HIM THE

TARGET OF MURDER.

Wendy: THE SOUTHERN

BAPTIST CONVENTION IS

EXPANDING NORTH.

THEY HAVE SPENT MORE THAN

$5 MILLION PLANNING CHURCHES

AROUND THE REGION.

THE NEW ENGLAND REGION IS

INCREASINGLY INDIFFERENT TO

RELIGION.

BUT OVER THE LAST 11 YEARS,

MORE THAN 100 NEW CHURCHES

HAVE BEEN PLANTED.

Mark: IMAGINE WHAT IT

WOULD BE LIKE IF YOUR

DECISION TO FOLLOW JESUS

MADE YOU AN OUTCAST FROM

YOUR FAMILY AND EVEN A

TARGET FOR DEATH.

THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO THE

MAN IN OUR NEXT STORY.

BUT AS EPHRAIM GRAHAM TELLS

US, THE POWER OF LOVE BROKE

DOWN THE BARRIERS AND

REUNITED HIM WITH HIS LOVED

ONES.

THIS STORY TAKES PLACE IN

ETHIOPIA, AND IT COMES FROM

OUR FRIENDS, THE VOICE OF

THE MARTYRS, CANADA.

Reporter: AKMED AND HIS

FRIEND SPEND TIME PRAYING

AND STUDYING THE BIBLE.

SOME MIGHT CALL IT A MIRACLE

SINCE THE TWO DID NOT SPEAK

FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS.

IN FACT, SULIMAN'S FATHER

ONCE TRIED TO KILL HIM.

WHY?

BECAUSE AT THE AGE OF 16,

ABDU DECIDED TO LEAVE ISLAM

AND FOLLOW JESUS.

THE YOUNG MAN'S JOURNEY OF

FAITH BEGAN WITH AN

UNEXPECTED VISIT.

I WAS SLEEPING, AND JESUS

WOKE ME UPMENT IT WA UP.

AND IT WAS LIKE A DREAM, A

REVELATION.

Reporter: HE GAVE HIS

LIFE TO CHRIST AFTER READING

FROM A BORROWED BIBLE.

HIS DECISION MADE HIS FAMILY

ANGRY.

BECAUSE IN THEIR MUSLIM

COMMUNITY, LEAVING ISLAM

BRINGS THE FAMILY DISGRACE.

WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT KIND

OF BELIEF HE BROUGHT.

WE WERE FUNDAMENTALIST

MUSLIMS AND VERY UPSET.

OUR NEIGHBOURS ALSO TOLD US

HE BROUGHT A FOREIGN

RELIGION, WHICH IS NOT GOOD,

AND THEY SAID ATTACK HIM AND

DON'T ACCEPT HIM.

Reporter: HIS MOTHER

WAS ALSO VERY UPSET WHEN SHE

LEARNED HER SON BECAME A

CHRISTIAN.

I HAD DEEP, DEEP SORROW

IN MY HEART BECAUSE I

THOUGHT I HAD LOST MY BOY.

I THOUGHT, WE CAN'T EVEN BE

BE BURIED TOGETHER WHEN OUR

DAYS ARE OVER.

IT WAS A BIG SORROW AT THAT

TIME.

Reporter: VILLAGE

LEADERS TRIED TO INTIMIDATE

ABDU BY ORDERING A GANG OF

YOUNG MEN TO ATTACK HIM.

AS I WAS WALKING TO

SCHOOL, THEY MET ME ON THE

ROAD AND BEAT ME VERY BADLY

WITH A ROPE AND MADE ME

SUFFER.

THEY ASKED ME IF THIS WAS MY

FINAL DECISION.

IF I CONTINUED TO BE A

CHRISTIAN, THEY SAID THEY

WOULD TAKE THE FULL MEASURE

AND KILL ME.

Reporter: STILL, ABDU

REFUSED TO RENOUNCE JESUS,

AND HIS FATHER BECAME SO

ANGRY, HE TRIED TO TAKE HIS

LIFE.

WE CHASED HIM OUT FROM

OUR HOME BECAUSE WE DIDN'T

WANT TO BE AGAINST OUR

NEIGHBORS.

HE BROUGHT DIFFERENT THINGS

HERE, SO WE CHASED HIM OUT

AND HE WENT TO ANOTHER

VILLAGE.

Reporter: DURING HIS

YEARS IN EXILE FROM HIS

FAMILY, HE WORKED AT A

CHURCH AS A SECURITY GUARD

AND GREW STRONGER IN HIS

FAITH.

HE READ MORE THAN 100

CHRISTIAN BOOKS AND BEGAN

DISCIPLING OTHER FORMER

MUSLIMS WHO HAD COME TO

JESUS.

BUT ABDU'S MOTHER MISSED HIM

TERRIBLY, AND AFTER MANY

YEARS OF SEPARATION, SHE

SLIPPED AWAY TO VISIT HER

SON.

DURING THE SIX YEARS, I

HEARD HE WASN'T DRINKING

ALCOHOL OR DOING BAD

THINGS.

BUT THE BOYS WHO WERE HIS

FRIENDS HERE WERE DOING

THOSE THINGS.

SO I DECIDED TO SEE HIM

SECRETLY.

Reporter: IMPRESSED BY

THE CHANGES IN THEIR SON'S

LIFE, SHE BEGAN TO CONSIDER

CHRIST.

HOWEVER, IT TOOK 10 YEARS

BEFORE SHE, TOO, WOULD LEAVE

ISLAM TO FOLLOW JESUS.

I BELIEVE THAT THE FAITH

OF MY SON WAS TRUE AND

CORRECT.

BUT NOW I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM

WITH MY HUSBAND.

BUT I DECIDED TO FOLLOW

JESUS AND TRY TO BRING MY

HUSBAND TO CHRIST.

Translator: WE SHOWED BIG

LOVE TO HIM AND BIG CHANGES

IN OUR CHARACTER.

THIS INFLUENCED HIM.

Reporter: ABOUT A YEAR

LATER, SULIMAN'S HEART

SOFTENED UNDER THE INFLUENCE

OF GOD'S BIG LOVE.

NOW HE, AND THE REST OF HIS

FAMILY, ABOUT 40 OF THEM,

ARE ALL CHRISTIANS.

THIS HUT ON THE FAMILY

PROPERTY IS NOW A PLACE OF

WORSHIP TO THE LORD AND

HEARING THE GOSPEL.

I'M VERY HAPPY THAT MY

FAMILY HAS COME TO JESUS.

BUT THE BIGGEST THING THAT

MAKES ME EXCITED IS THAT

NEAR THE HOME WHERE I GREW

UP IS A PLACE BEING USED AS

A CHURCH.

PEOPLE ARE COMING AND

PRAYING AND GIVING THEIR

LIVES TO CHRIST.

Reporter: AS FOR

SULIMAN, WHILE HE AND HIS

FAMILY ARE PERSECUTED FOR

THEIR FAITH, HE SAYS HE IS

NOT ABOUT TO RETURN TO

ISLAM, AND HE LOOKS FORWARD

TO ETERNITY WITH THE LORD.

THE FUNDAMENTALISTS CAN

DO THE WORST THEY CAN TO US,

THE LAST OPTION FOR THEM IS

TO KILL US.

WE DON'T MIND IF THEY KILL

US BECAUSE SOME BELIEVERS

WILL BURY US.

FOR US, IT IS BETTER WITH

CHRIST THAN TO LIVE IN THE

COMMUNITY WITHOUT CHRIST.

WE DON'T FEAR.

THESE DAYS FOR US ARE NOT A

THREAT.

Reporter: EPHRAIM

GRAHAM, CBN NEWS.

Mark: GREAT FAITH

THERE.

ABDU IS NOW A MISSIONARY TO

MUSLIMS.

THE VOICE OF THE MARTYRS,

CANADA, AND A SCOTTISH

GROUP, CALLED STEADFAST

GLOBAL, ARE SUPPORTING THEIR

MINISTRY.

THEY REPORT THAT THOUSANDS

ARE RESPONDING TO THE

GOSPEL.

Wendy: UP NEXT, BELGIUM

POSTAGE STAMPS THAT HAVE

PEOPLE WAITING IN LINE TO

TAKE A LICK.

Wendy: LICKABLE POSTAGE

STAMPS HAVE ALMOST

COMPLETELY BECOME A THING OF

THE PAST.

Mark: BUT NOT IN

BELGIUM.

THEY REINVENTED THAT STAMP,

AND THE NEW POSTAGE IS

GETTING PRETTY SWEET

REVIEWS.

THEY STARTED SELLING STAMPS

THAT SMELL AND EVEN TASTE

LIKE CHOCOLATE.

PERFUMED STAMPS HAVE BEEN

MADE IN THE PAST, BUT THIS

IS THE FIRST TIME IT WILL

TASTE LIKE IT SMELLS,

CHOCOLATE.

I THINK IT IS THE FIRST

TIME IN BELGIUM FOR THIS.

IT HAS A CHOCOLATE TASTE.

PURE BELGIUM.

PURE BELGIUM.

Mark: THAT IT IS.

OVER 107,000 SHEETS WILL BE

PRINTED AND SOLD.

EACH WILL DISPLAY FIVE

DESIGNS, REPRESENTING

DIFFERENT CHOCOLATES.

Wendy: HOW

APPROPRIATE.

BELGIUM CHOCOLATES ARE WORLD

FAMOUS.

Mark: A FRIEND OF MINE

BROUGHT SOME BACK AND IT WAS

THE BEST CHOCOLATE I EVER

HAD.

Wendy: MAYBE THAT WOULD

HELP THE U.S. POSTAL

SERVICE, CHOCOLATE STAMPS.
