THIS WEEK ON CHRISTIAN

WORLD NEWS, UKRAINE TEETERS

ON THE EDGE OF CHAOS, POLICE

AND PROTESTORS IN BLOODY

BATTLES.

WHAT IS THE CHURCH'S

RESPONSE.

PLUS...CALL TO ACCOUNT.

A UNITED NATIONS REPORT

BLASTS NORTH KOREA FOR HUMAN

RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND WARNS

ITS LEADER HE COULD BE

CHARGED WITH CRIMES AGAINST

HUMANITY.

AND THE HISTORY OF

AFRICAN-AMERICANS AND THE

MISSION'S MOVEMENT, AND THIS

WOMAN'S EFFORT TO FAN THE

VISION INTO A FLAME.

*

WELCOME TO THIS EDITION

OF CHRISTIAN WORLD NEWS.

WENDY GRIFFITH AND GEORGE

THOMAS ARE BOTH ON

ASSIGNMENT.

THE UNREST IN UKRAINE TURNED

BLOODY THIS WEEK.

THE STANDOFF BETWEEN POLICE

AND PROTESTORS ASCENDED INTO

A STREET BATTLE, LEAVING

DOZENS DEAD AND HUNDREDS

INJURED.

EUROPEAN NEGOTIATORS WORKED

OUT A DEAL TO END THE

VIOLENCE, THAT INCLUDES

EARLY ELECTIONS AND ALLOWING

OPPOSITION LEADER NOOSS

INTO A NEW COALITION

GOVERNMENT.

BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR IF THAT

AGREEMENT WILL HOLD.

OUR MARK MARTIN HAS MORE.

A MAN SWEEPS THE STREETS

WHAT PROTESTORS STAND

PEACEFULLY.

ONE PROTESTOR HOLDS A

CROSS.

IT IS A SHARP CONTRAST FROM

THE BLOODSHED THAT TOOK

PLACE ON THURSDAY.

THE VIOLENCE BETWEEN

GOVERNMENT POLICE AND

PROTESTORS LEFT AT LEAST 70

MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION

AND THREE POLICE OFFICERS

DEAD.

MORE THAN 500 PROTESTORS

WERE INJURED.

AND NEARLY 30 POLICE

OFFICERS SUFFERED GUNSHOT

WOUNDS.

I BELIEVE THAT THE 20th

OF FEBRUARY WILL GO DOWN IN

THE UKRAINIAN HISTORY AS ONE

OF THE DA SADDEST DAYS

EVERY INS INDEPENDENCE.

THIS PROTESTOR SAYS,.

WE NEED TO STOP ALL OF

THIS.

ENOUGH OF THE BLOOD.

ONLY SINCE YESTERDAY, 75

PEOPLE HAVE LOST LIVES.

AFTER ALL-NIGHT NEGOTIATIONS

WITH E.U. DIPLOMATS, THE

GOVERNMENT AGREED TO FORM A

NEW COALITION GOVERNMENT IN

10 DAYS AND HOLD NEW

ELECTIONS BY THE END OF THE

YEAR.

THE DOCUMENT ALSO PROMISES

CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS TO

SCALE BACK PRESIDENTIAL

POWERS, WHICH IS A KEY

DEMAND OF PROTESTORS.

STEVE WEBBER OF CBN UKRAINE

SAYS THE CHURCH HAS NOT BEEN

SITTING ON THE SIDELINES.

THE CHURCH IS RIGHT AND

THE MIDDLE, AND ASKING GOD'S

PROTECTION, FOR RESTRAINT,

FOR GOD'S PEACE.

THAT'S ONE LEVEL THE CHURCH

IS DOING.

THE OTHER ONE IS THAT MANY

OF THE CHURCHES HAVE OPENED

UP THAT ARE NEAR M MIDONG

TO BE TEMPORARY HOSPITALS.

Reporter: DEMONSTRATORS

HAVE CAMPED FOR THREE MONTHS

ON INDEPENDENCE SQUARE.

THE PRESIDENT SPARKED THE

PROTEST BY DOING A WAY WITH

A PACT WITH THE EUROPEAN

UNION.

WEBBER SAYS THEY'RE TIRED OF

BEING RULED BY LAWLESS AND

CORRUPT LEADERS.

MARK MARTIN, CBN NEWS.

THE PRESIDENT OF RUSSIAN

MINISTRIES, WHICH SERVES THE

COUNTRIES OF THE FORMER

SOVIET UNION, AND HE IS ALSO

A RUSSIAN.

SERGEI, DO YOU THINK THE TWO

SIDES CAN REACH A LASTING

AGREEMENT?

WE REALLY HOPE FOR IT.

AND ESPECIALLY TALKING TO

THE PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE OF

KIEV.

THEY SAY FINALLY THEY HAVE

SEEN SOME FIRST RAYS OF

HOPE.

THAT AGREEMENT BROUGHT SO

MUCH HOPE TO PEOPLE IN THE

STREETS FIGHTING.

WE HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE

GOVERNMENT THIS TIME WILL

NOT BE BREAKING THEIR

PROMISES, AS THEY DID,

UNFORTUNATELY, MANY TIMES

BEFORE.

INDEED.

SPEAKING OF PRAYER, TELL US

ABOUT THE ROLE THE CHURCH IS

PLAYING IN THIS SITUATION?

I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE THE

CHURCH, FINALLY, YOU KNOW,

WHEN THEY WERE JUST CAUGHT

IN BETWEEN OF ALL OF THIS

DIVISION AND CONTROVERSY, TO

BE SUBMISSIVE OR NOT

SUBMISSIVE TO THE CORRUPT

GOVERNMENT, ETC., IN THE

LAST COUPLE OF DAYS, WE HAVE

SEEN THAT THE CHURCH UNITED

TOGETHER AND IS REACHING OUT

TO THOSE WHO ARE FIGHTING

WITH THEIR PRACTICAL ACTION

AND MINISTRY.

AND THEY'RE REACHING TO

THOSE WHO ARE WOUNDED AND

OFFERING THEM HELP.

THEY ARE BRINGING HOPE, YOU

KNOW, TO THE STREETS.

WE SEE THE CHURCHES ARE

OPENING THEIR DOORS TODAY

AND HELPING AND OFFERING

PEOPLE HELP, THOSE WHO ARE

FIGHTING AND THOSE WHO ARE

WOUNDED.

HELPING FAMILIES, THOSE WHO

LOST THEIR LOVED ONES IN THE

FIGHT.

SO I SEE THE CHURCH IS MORE

MOBILIZED TODAY, AND NOT

JUST PRAYING.

THEY'RE OFFERING ACTUAL

ACTION AND THE PRACTICAL

MINISTRY, REACHING TO THOSE

IN THE COMMUNITY THAT ARE

HURTING BECAUSE OF THE

VIOLENCE.

INDEED THEY ARE.

WE'RE SEEING THE PRIESTS

PRAYING RIGHT THERE IN THE

MIDDLE OF THE STREET.

THEY'RE IN THE HEART OF THE

MATTER RIGHT THERE.

WHAT IS YOUR PRAYER FOR

UKRAINE?

MY PRAYER FOR UKRAINE,

FOR MY HOME LAND AND MY

FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN

UKRAINE, THAT THE NATION

WILL GET HEALED, AND THE

CHURCH WILL PLAY AN

IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE

HEALING PROCESS, BRINGING

THE MESSAGE OF HOPE AND

SAFETY INTO THE BROKEN

COMMUNITY.

MY HEART IS BROKEN, BUT I'M

EARNESTLY PRAYING, AND I

REALLY WANT THE GLOBAL

CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY TO JOIN

ME, THAT GOD WILL BRING

HOPE, THAT GOD WILL BRING

HOPE, THAT GOD WILL BRING

RESTORATION.

IN THE FACE OF ALL OF

THIS, ARE WE SEEING PEOPLE

TURNING TO JESUS CHRIST?

WE ARE SEEING THEM TURN

TO JESUS CHRIST, AND SEEING

HOW MUCH THEY ARE OPEN TO

SCRIPTURE.

AND BECAUSE OF THE TURMOIL,

AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, IN

TROUBLE PEOPLE ARE MORE

TURNING TO GOD.

THAT'S WHAT WE WANT IN THE

EVANGELICAL COMMUNITY, TO

SURROUND UKRAINE WITH THEIR

PRAYERS AND TO HELP THE

LEADERS OF THE EVANGELICAL

CHURCH TO USE THIS AND BRING

THE MESSAGE OF HOPE AND

BRING THEM SCRIPTURE.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO

BRING THAT TO LIFE.

SERGEI, THANK YOU SO MUCH

FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU.

AND CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT

THE RUSSIAN MINISTRIES AND

CBN UKRAINE AT OUR WEBSITE,

CBNNEWS.ORG.

A CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY IS

BEHIND BARS IN KOREA.

HE SAID HE WAS ARRESTED IN

PYONGYANG.

BECAUSE HE IS A RESIDENT OF

AUSTRALIA, THEY ARE TRYING

TO FIND OUT WHERE HE IS

BEING HELD.

HIS WIFE TELLS THE

ASSOCIATED PRESS HE CARRIED

KOREAN LANGUAGE CHRISTIAN

PAMPHLETS INTO NORTHERN

CAREER, AND THAT MIGHT BE

THE REASON HAY WAS

ARRESTED.

JEFF KING SAYS SHORT'S

ARREST MAY HAVE MORE TO DO

WITH A RECENT U.N. COURT

ACCUSING NORTH KOREA OF

COMMITTING CRIMES AGAINST

HUMANITY.

THE MAN WHO HEADED UP THE

COMMISSION FOR THE U.N. WAS

AN AUSTRALIAN JUDGE.

WE THINK THE ANGLE IS THAT

THIS IS PUNISHMENT AND IT IS

A BARGAINING CHIP -- THAT'S

CONJECTURE, BUT IT CERTAINLY

LOOKS INTERESTING AND IT

LOOKS LIKE AN OVERBEARING

RESPONSE TO A SMALL

OFFENSE.

M."

ANAS MANY AS 30,000

CHRISTIANS REPORTEDLY ARE IN

PRISON FOR THEIR FAITH.

BUT YOU'RE ABOUT TO MEET ONE

WOMAN WHO MADE IT OUT.

SHE WAS PART OF SECRET,

UNDERGROUND CHURCH.

GEORGE THOMAS TRAVELLED TO

SOUTH KOREA TO MEET HER.

George: HER NAME IS KIM

YU JIN, AGED 31.

SHE WAS BORN IN PYONGYANG,

NORTH KOREA.

HER TESTIMONY IS RARE

CONSIDERING THE NUMBERS ON

NORTH KOREA.

THE C.I.A. ESTIMATES THAT

SOME 24 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE

IN THE COMMUNIST COUNTRY,

AND THE BEST GUESS IS ABOUT

2%, OR 480,000, ARE

CHRISTIANS.

JUST A HANDFUL OF THEM HAVE

ESCAPED FROM THE BUDDHA

REGIME AND LIVED TO TELL

THEIR STORY.

KIM YU JIN IS ONE OF THEM.

GROWING UP I WAS TOLD BY

THE AUTHORITIES THERE WAS NO

GOD IN THIS WORLD.

WE WERE ORDERED, INSTEAD, TO

WORSHIP KIM JONG-IL AND KIM

JONG-UN, THE LEADERS OF THE

COUNTRY.

George: FREEDOM OF

RELIGION IS GUARANTEED OWN

NORTH KOREA'S CONSTITUTION,

BUT IT IS NEVER ENCOURAGED.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING A

BELIEVER IN NORTH KOREA.

WE MET EVERY SATURDAY

EVENING.

MY FAMILY GATHERED IN THE

BACK ROOM OF OUR SMALL

APARTMENT.

WE HAD TO BE VERY QUIET.

WE OFTEN COVERED OUR HEADS

TO MUFFLE THE NOISE.

George: GROWING UP SHE

HEARD STORIES OF HOW HER

CITY, PYONGYANG, WAS ONCE

KNOWN AS THE JERUSALEM OF

THE EAST.

IN 1934, 13% OF THE

POPULATION WERE CHRISTIAN.

HALF A CENTURY LATER, KIM'S

FAITH MADE HER A TARGET.

MY PARENTS OFTEN ASKED ME

TO STAY OUTSIDE THE

APARTMENT ON SATURDAYS TO

MAKE SURE NO ONE WAS COMING

WHILE THE FAMILY PRAYED

INSIDE.

George: OVER TIME, THE

MEETINGS GREW TO INCLUDE A

FEW FRIENDS AND EXTENDED

FAMILY.

WE HAD ONE BIBLE IN OURú

HOUSE.

MY GRANDMOTHER, WHO WAS A

BELIEVER, HAD A CHINESE

BIBLE.

SHE TRANSLATED THE BIBLE BY

HAND INTO KOREAN ON PIECES

OF PAPER.

WE FOUND STRENGTH IN THOSE

PAGES.

George: BUT SOON THE

AUTHORITIES DISCOVERED HER

FATHER WAS A SECRET

BELIEVER.

MY FATHER WAS A TAILER IN

TOWN, AND WE BELIEVE THEY

PLANTED LISTENING DEVICES IN

HIS SHOP AND ON HIS

CLOTHES.

George: THE AUTHORITIES

DISCOVERED THAT MS. KIM'S

FATHER WAS OPERATING AN

UNDERGROUND CHURCH.

SO THEY ARRESTED HIM AND

THEIR UNCLE.

BOTH MEN PROBABLY ENDED UP

IN ONE OF THE SIX LABOR

CAMPS IN NORTH KOREA.

DO YOU REMEMBER THAT DAY?

THE DAY MY FATHER WAS

ARRESTED, I WAS AT SCHOOL,

BUT I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT

DAY.

HE HUGGED ME BEFORE I LEFT

FOR SCHOOL, AND LIKE EVERY

OTHER DAY HE REMINDED ME TO

BE CAREFUL.

EVERY MORNING AT THE

BREAKFAST TABLE, HE WOULD

TELL US THAT ONE DAY THE

GOVERNMENT WILL COME AND

ARREST US FOR BEING

CHRISTIANS.

HE WARNED US OF THE PRICE WE

WOULD SOME DAY PAY FOR OUR

FAITH.

I REMEMBER HIM SAYING OFTEN,

EVEN IF I FACE DEATH, I WILL

FOLLOW JESUS.

George: SOME 200,000

PRISONERS ARE BEING HELD IN

POLITICAL PRISON CAMPS IN

NORTH KOREA, AN ESTIMATED

30,000 OF THEM ARE

CHRISTIANS.

JUAN JAY IS A PROFESSOR OF

LAW IN SOUTH KOREA.

THEY ARE TREATED AS

CRIMINALS, AND LIKE A

TERRORIST.

AND THEY ARE PROSECUTED

BASED ON NATIONAL SECURITY

CRIME OF NORTH KOREA.

George: THIS VIDEO

OBTAINED BY CBN NEWS

REPORTEDLY SHOWS THE

EXECUTION OF NORTH KOREAN

CHRISTIANS.

[YELLING]

George: DO YOU THINK

THAT YOUR FATHER IS ALIVE

TODAY?

NO.

EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS

WHEN GOVERNMENT AGENTS

ARREST CHRISTIANS IN NORTH

KOREA.

THEY NEVER MAKE IT OUT

ALIVE.

I KNOW MY FATHER IS IN

HEAVEN.

AND HE IS PRAYING FOR NORTH

KOREA AND MY FAMILY.

George: KIM'S MOTHER,

GRANDMOTHER, AND SIBLINGS

MANAGED TO ESCAPE THAT DAY

TO THE MOUNTAINS.

IN 2005, WITH THE HELP OF A

CHINESE PASTOR, SHE CROSSED

THE TUMAN RIVER AND DEFECTED

TO CHINA.

HER FAMILY FOLLOWED MONTHS

LATER.

IT WAS A DIFFICULT

DECISION.

I KNEW IF I GOT CAUGHT, I

WOULD BE ARRESTED AND SENT

TO A PRISON CAMP.

BUT MY FAMILY DEFECTED

BECAUSE WE WERE BEING PERS

CUTEE PERSECUTED IN NORTH

KOREA FOR OUR FAITH.

I AM VERY PROUD FOR WHAT

SHE DID.

HER FAMILY HAS GONE THROUGH

A LOT OVER THE YEARS.

SHE IS A HERO IN MY EYES.

George: KIM IS QUICK TO

BRUSH ASIDE THOSE

COMPLIMENTS, INSTEAD GIVING

HONOR TO THE MAN WHO LAID

DOWN HIS LIFE.

I GREW UP IN A LAND WHERE

THEY SAID THERE WAS NO GOD.

BUT MY FATHER TOLD ME

OTHERWISE.

HE LOVED CHRIST, AND FOR

THAT HE DIED.

George: SHE HAS A DREAM

TO ONE DAY GO BACK TO

PYONGYANG AND SHARE ABOUT

THIS LOVE WITH THE PEOPLE OF

NORTH KOREA.

GEORGE THOMAS, CBN NEWS,

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA.

A PRESBYTERIAN PASTOR HAS

BEEN FREED FROM A

KYRZAKHSTAN PRISON.

67-YEAR-OLD PATTER

67-YEAR-OLD PASTOR SERVED

EIGHT MONTHS ON CHARGES HE

HARMED THE HEALTH OF A

CHURCH MEMBER.

THE ALLEGED VICTIM SAID SHE

HAD NOT BEEN HARMED.

THEY DROPPED OTHER CHARGES

AGAINST HIM.

HE STILL MUST PAY AN $11,000

FINE.

MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH SAY

THE KYRZAKHSTAN GOVERNMENT

HAS OFTEN TARGETED THE

PASTOR AND THEIR CHURCH FOR

PERSECUTION.

UP NEXT...MINISTRY AT THE

WINTER OLYMPICS.

AMERICANS IN SOCHI ARE USING

THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPREAD

THE GOSPEL TO THE WORLD.

THE WINTER OLYMPICS DREW

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF

FANS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD

TO SOCHI, RUSSIA, THIS

MONTH.

SOME CAME TO CHEER ON THEIR

COUNTRY'S TEAMS, BUT SOME

CAME WITH A HIGHER GOAL, TO

SPREAD THE GOSPEL.

I SPOKE TO THE SOUTHERN

BAPTIST OLYMPICS OUTREACH IN

SOCHI.

MARK, TELL US ABOUT THE WORK

YOUR MINISTRY TEAMS ARE

DOING IN SOCHI RIGHT NOW.

SURE.

ENGAGE SOCHI IS AN

INITIATIVE THAT GATHERS

SOUTHERN BAPTISTS TOGETHER

FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY,

COMING TO SOCHI, SHARING

THEIR FAITH.

BUT IT IS MORE THAN JUST

OUTREACH DURING THE GAMES.

IT IS ABOUT CHURCH

PLANTING.

AND IT IS ABOUT CHURCH

PLANTING BEFORE, DURING, AND

AFTER THE GAMES.

AND SO THE FOLKS WHO ARE IN

SOCHI RIGHT NOW OBVIOUSLY

ARE SHARING THE GOSPEL.

BUT EVEN MORE THAN THAT,

THEY'RE TASKED WITH MAKING

RELATIONSHIPS AND GETTING TO

KNOW PEOPLE AND MEETING

PEOPLE.

AND SO OUR GROUPS THAT ARE

COMING ARE SHARING THE

GOSPEL ALL OVER SOCHI.

WHAT'S THE ATMOSPHERE

LIKE THERE?

ARE PEOPLE RECEPTIVE TO THE

GOSPEL?

PEOPLE HERE HAVE BEEN

INCREDIBLY OPEN TO NEW

RELATIONS, TO CONVERSATIONS,

TO SHARING THE GOSPEL.

WE HAVE SEEN SEVERAL NEW

FOLKS COME TO FAITH DURING

THIS TIME.

WE HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE

EXPLORE IT.

AND WE'VE ALSO MET EXISTING

BELIEVERS WHO HAVE EMBRACED

US AND WHO HAVE SAID THANK

YOU FOR COMING AND THANK YOU

FOR SHARING.

SECURITY CONCERNS

SURROUND THE SOCHI OLYMPICS,

AND TERROR GROUPS PROMISED

TO TARGET THE OLYMPICS AND

CARRY OUT AN ATTACK PRIOR TO

THE GAMES.

HAS THAT AFFECT F AFFECTED

YOUR WORK AT ALL?

I THINK AT AMERICANS IN

GENERAL, I WOULD SAY THAT

THE RECEPTION WE RECEIVED IN

SOCHI IS VERY POSITIVE.

WE FEEL VERY SAFE HERE.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS DONE A

GOOD JOB OF FOLLOWING

THROUGH ON THEIR PROMISES TO

BE SECURE AND TO BE SAFE.

AND THEY'VE DONE IT IN A WAY

THAT IS UNOBTRUSIVE.

YES, WE GO THROUGH SECURITY

CHECKS AND CHECK POINTS AND

THINGS LIKE THAT, BUT THE

VOLUNTEERS AND THE SECURITY

PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING THOSE

THINGS HAVE BEEN VERY

CONSCIOUS TO DO IT IN A WAY

THAT IS FRIENDSLY.

SO HOW CAN OUR VIEWERS

PRAY FOR YOUR EFFORTS?

PRAY FOR US, AS WE FINISH

THIS PART OF THE PROJECT AND

WE MOVE INTO THE NEXT PART,

THAT WE WOULD CONTINUE TO BE

ABLE TO REACH PEOPLE WITH

THE GOSPEL FOR THE FIRST

TIME, BUT ALSO AS WE DO

FOLLOWUP AND DISCIPLESHIP,

THAT THOSE SEEDS WOULD TAKE

ROOT, AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE

NEW BELIEVERS AND THOSE NEW

BELIEVERS WOULD BE

DISCIPLED, AND THEY WOULD BE

BROUGHT INTO THE BODY OF

BELIEVERS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH YOUR

TIME.

WE APPRECIATE YOU PRAYING

FOR SOCHI AND FOR THE WORK

BEING DONE HERE.

UP NEXT, DID YOU KNOW THE

FIRST MISSIONARY FROM

AMERICA WAS A FORMER SLAVE?

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS WOMAN'S

MISSION TO EDUCATE THE

AFRICAN-AMERICAN CHURCH

ABOUT ITS MISSION HISTORY.

HERE IN THE U.S.,

FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY

MONTH.

AS WE PAUSE TO CELEBRATE

THAT PIECE OF AMERICAN

HISTORY, THERE IS A CALL FOR

BLACK CHRISTIANS TO RECLAIM

THEIR HERITAGE ON THE

MISSION FIELD.

WE SPOKE WITH ONE

AFRICAN-AMERICAN MISSIONARY

WHO IS LEADING THE PUSH.

THE RICHNESS OF THE

AFRICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

IS HEARD IN THE VERY SONGS

THE CHOIR SINGS ON SUNDAY

MORNING.

IT IS A RICHNESS THAT

INCLUDES WORK, FAR BEYOND

THE CHURCH WALLS.

WE NEED TO GO BACK TO OUR

ROOTS.

I'VE BEEN IN MISSION MANY

YEARS, AND WHEN I STARTED,

THE CRY FROM OTHER COUNTRIES

OR OTHER NATIONS OF PEOPLE,

THEY ASKED ME, ARE THERE ANY

AFRICAN-AMERICAN

MISSIONARIES?

IN FACT, AMERICA'S FIRST

MISSIONARY WAS GEORGE LYLE.

LYLE IT WAS AN EMANCIPATED

SLAVE, WHO STARTED THE FIRST

AFRICAN CHURCH BEFORE

HEADING TO JAMAICA TO START

OTHERS.

IT IS A HISTORY LESSON

BRENDA SHARES OFTEN.

HER MINISTRY WORKS TO

ENCOURAGE MORE PEOPLE TO

PURSUE MISSIONS WORK.

FROM A LITTLE GIRL, GOD

CALLED ME INTO THE FIELD OF

MISSION.

I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND IT.

BECAUSE I FELT A MISSIONARY

WAS A LITTLE LADY WITH A BUN

ON HER HEAD GOING TO AFRICA,

NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN.

WHEN GOD CALLED ME, HE TOLD

ME, I'M CALLING YOU TO

ANSWER A SLAVE WOMAN'S

PRAYER.

HE SAID, SHE IS CRYING FOR

HER CHILDREN TO BE FREE, BUT

REALLY FREE.

AND I'M SENDING YOU AS A

RESULT OF HER PRAYERS, TO GO

AND FREE PEOPLE.

ONE OF HER LATEST

PROJECTS IS BRINGING

ELECTRICITY AND A COMPUTER

LAB TO A MUD HUT VILLAGE IN

GHANA.

STILL, NUMBERS SHOW THERE IS

MORE WORK TO BE DONE.

A CHRISTIANITY TODAY REPORT

SHOWED THE NUMBER OF BLACK

CHURCHES IN THE SOUTHERN

BAPTIST CONVENTION HAS GROWN

MORMORE THAN 80% IN THE

LAST DECADE.

BUT OF ALL THE MISSIONARIES,

ONLY 27 WERE BLACK.

THE WORLD KNOWS

AFRICAN-AMERICANS HAVE

SUFFERED FROM SLAVERY AND

OTHER ATROCITIES IN LIFE.

SO THEY'RE INTERESTED TO

KNOW, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT

THERE HAS BECOME AN

AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENT,

HOW DID GOD TAKE YOU THROUGH

SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT YOU

HAVE?

BECAUSE WE FACE SOME OF THE

ISSUES.

STRATON SAYS SOMETIMES

THE ISSUES OF PRO POVERTY

AND STRUGGLE RIGHT OUTSIDE

THE CHURCH'S DOORS KEEP THEM

FROM MISSIONS ABROAD.

MISSION INCLUDES

EVERYTHING.

GOD SAID TO JERUSALEM,

JUDEA, AND HE DIDN'T SAY

CHOOSE.

HE SAID TO DO IT ALL.

THERE IS ENOUGH WORK FOR US

ALL TO DO.

WE DON'T DO ONE AT THE

NEGLECT OF ANOTHER.

AND NO ONE VOICE CAN

REPLACE ANOTHER ON THE

MISSION FIELDS.

THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN

CHURCH BECAME A PLACE OF

REFUGE.

IT BECAME, IN SOME WAYS, AN

INVENTIVE CULTURE.

I DON'T SAY THAT

DISRESPECTFULLY.

I BELIEVE IT WAS A

COLLABORATION OF THE HOLY

SPIRIT, OF GOD, WITH THE

WOUNDED, REJECTED, ORPHANED

PEOPLE, WHO FOUND REFUGE IN

HIM.

THAT UNIQUE STORY IS WHY

JOHN WORKS WITH BRENDA

STRATON.

HE ENCOURAGES

AFRICAN-AMERICANS TO TAKE TO

THE MISSION FIELD, AND NOT

TO ASSUME THERE IS ONLY WORK

FOR THEM IN AFRICA.

WE ALWAYS SAY, FOR

INSTANCE, THE KOREANS ARE

THE KEY TO REACHING JAPAN

BECAUSE THEY'RE SIMILAR.

BUT THE JAPANESE ARE

FASCINATED WITH GOSPEL

MUSIC.

*

AND EVEN MUSIC CAN OPEN

THE DOOR TO A MISSION FIELD

WHERE THE HARVEST IN

PLENTIFUL, AND THE LABORERS

ARE FEW.

*

BRENDA STRATON AND JOHN

DAWSEN ARE ALREADY SEEING

THEIR WORK MAKE AN IMPACT,

AND MESSAGES TO THE NATION

AND YOUTH WITH A MISSION ARE

STEADILY INCREASING THE

NUMBER OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS

PURSUING INTERNATIONAL

MISSIONS.

STAY WITH US, WE'RE COMING

RIGHT BACK.

BLESSING" IS SUPPORTING WORK

AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN

NEPAL.

THEY ARE SUPPORTING A BORDER

STATION BETWEEN INDIA AND

NEPAL.

THEY INTERVENE AND RESCUE

VICTIMS BEFORE THEY'RE

TRAFFICKED ACROSS THE

BORDER.

THE GIRLS ARE TAKEN TO SAFE

HOMES, WHERE THEY RECEIVE

COUNSELLING AND EVEN SKILLS

TRAINING.

MANY YOUNG GIRLS ARE

TARGETED BY TRAFFICKERS AND

LURED IN BY THE PROMISE OF

WORK.

SO "OPERATION BLESSING" IS

ALSO WORKING IN VILLAGES,

OFFERING TRAINING AND VITAL

RESOURCES.

WELL, FINALLY THIS WEEK, WE

ENCOURAGE YOU, OUR VIEWERS,

TO SEND US YOUR STORY

IDEAS.

SIMPLY LOG ON TO OUR CWN

Facebook PAGE.

IF WE LIKE IT, YOU'LL BE

HEARING FOR US.

LOOK FOR WENDY GRIFFITH

RIGHT HERE NEXT WEEK.

UNTIL THEN, GOOD-BYE AND GOD

BLESS YOU.
