Actor Kevin Sorbo sits down with The 700 Club'sScott Ross to discuss his latest movie, God's Not Dead. Read Transcript

Reporter: HE HASçNE

SHAKESPEARE AND PLAYED

HEROS, BUT TODAY KEVIN SORBO

IS MORE COMFORTABLE PLAYING

PROFESSORS IN COLLEGES.

I SAT DOWN TO TALK TO KEVIN

ABOUT HIS NEW FILM "GOD'S

NOT DEAD," WHICH OPENS

APRIL 21st.

MY MOM LOVED OLD MOVIESçç

WITH KATHERINE HEPBURN AND

CAREY GRANT.

AND I WATCHED ALL OF THE

BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES AND I

JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH

THEM.

FOR ME, IT WAS ROBERT

REDFORD AND PAUL NEWMAN.

I KNEW THAT'S WHAT I WANTED

TO DO.

Reporter: SO WAS IT THE

AUDITION ROUTE OR MODELING

ROUTE?

MINNEAPOLIS IS HOMEç TO SOç

MANY BIG CORPORATIONS,

GENERAL MILLS, DAIRY QUEEN,

SO A LOT OF COMMERCIALS ARE

SHOT THERE.

SO I GOT THAT SCREEN ACTORS

GUILD CARD.

Reporter: AFTER ACTING

IN EUROPE AND NEW ZEALAND,

KEVIN MOVED TO L.A.

I THINK THE BEST ADVICE I

GOT WAS FROM A GOOD FRIEND

OF MINE IN MINNESOTA, AND HE

SAID,ç REMEMBER, IT ISç CALLED

SHOW BUSINESS.

SO I TREATED IT LIKE A

BUSINESS.

I WORKED MY BUTT OFF.

AND I WOULD AUDITION AND GO

THROUGH THE PROCESS TO GET

INTO THOSE CLASSES.

Reporter: KEVIN

EVENTUALLY LANDED THE LEAD

ROLE IN THE TELEVISION

SERIES "HERCULES," WHICH

BECOME ONE OF THE TOP SHOWS

IN THE '90s.

AND HE MET AND MARRIED HISçç

LEADING LADY.

WITH ALL OF THE CHANGES IN

HIS LIFE, THERE WAS ONE

CONSTANT, HIS FAITH.

HE WAS IN SEVENTH GRADE WHEN

HE AND A FRIEND ACCEPTED

JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOR AT A

BILLY GRAHAM CRUSADE IN

MINNESOTA.

I REMEMBER HEARING HIM

SPEAK.

AND I WAS AT AN AGE WHERE I

COULD MAKE UP MY OWN MIND,

AND IT SORT OF CLICKED FOR

ME.

Reporter: DID THIS

FAITH;HáUáUPR' YOUç THROUGHOUT

THE YEARS?

I'M NOT PERFECT, BUT I

NEVER STOPPED BELIEVING.

Reporter: IN HIS LATEST

FILM, "GOD'S NOT DEAD," HE

PLAYS AN ATHEIST PROFESSOR

BENT ON CONVERTING HIS

CLASSROOMS.

DO NOT TRY TO HUMILIATE

ME IN FRONT OF MY STUDENTS.

IF YOU TRULY FEEL THE NEED

TO CONTINUEçç WITH THIS

CHARADE, I WILL MAKE IT MY

MISSION TO DESTROY ANY HOPE

OF A LAW DEGREE IN YOUR

FUTURE.

HAVE A NICE DAY.

Reporter: HOW DID YOU

IDENTIFY WITH THIS GUY?

WELL, I HAVE FRIENDS WHO

ARE ATHEISTS.

AND I DON'T MIND HAVING

THOSE CONVERSATIONS WITHOUT

THE WHOLE ANGER THING

ENTERING INTO IT.

I FIND IT VERY STRANGE THAT

SO MANY ATHEISTS SPEND SO

MUCHç TIMEç IN HATRED TOWARDS

PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BELIEVE

IN GOD.

THEY DIDN'T SPEAK THEIR

OWN CHOICE.

THAT'S WHAT GOD WANTS.

Reporter: WAS IT

DIFFICULT FOR YOU TO SPEAK

SOME OF THE LINES YOU HAVE

TO SPEAK AS AN ATHEIST?

YEAH.

I JUST THINK THIS IS

SOMETHING GOD WANTED ME DO

DO.

TO ME, H7VE KNOWNç COLLEGE

PROFESSORS LIKE THIS.

I'VE TALKED TO MANY PEOPLE,

AND MY NIECES AND NEPHEWS

ARE IN COLLEGE AND THEY SAY

THEY MET WITH PROFESSORS

LIKE THIS.

AT THE END OF THE MOVIE,

YOU'LL SEE A LOT OF CREDITS,

A LOT OF PLACES WHERE THE

SOURCES ARE WHERE THEY FOUND

THIS IS GOING ON IN

UNIVERSITIES ALL ACROSS THIS

COUNTRY.

Reporter: THE MOVIE WAS

INSPIRED BY THE BOOK "GOD'S

NOT DEAD," BY ARTHUR RICE

BROOKS, AND IT FEATURESç Aé-POPULAR SON BY THE NEWS

BOYS.

* GOD'S NOT DEAD

Reporter: HOW DO YOU,

OR DON'T YOU, CONVINCE

PEOPLE THERE IS A GOD?

SOMETHING STARTED ALL OF

THIS.

IT'S ALL TOO AMAZINGLY

PERFECT TO JUST HAVE

HAPPENED.

AND I GO TO MY ATHEIST

FRIENDS, IF I'M WRONG, I'VE

LOST NOTHING.

BUT IF I'M RIGHT, I'VE

GAINED EVERYTHING.ç

RepobtNIiñ KEVIN SAYS

THIS MOVIE ISN'T JUST FOR

CHRISTIANS.

I DON'T WANT TO PREACH TO

THE CHOIR.

I WANT ALL OF THE CHRISTIANS

TO SEE "GOD'S NOT DEAD," BUT

I WANT THE GUYS WHO HAVEN'T

MADE UP THEIR MIND.

THEY'RE AGNOSTIC, AND THEY

FIGURE, MAYBE THERE IS

SOMETHING -- I DON'T KNOW.

I WANT IT TO PROVOKE

CONVERSATION WITH PEOPLE.

AND LOOK AT IT AND GO,ç

]AYBE.

TO GET PEOPLE TO THINK A

LITTLE BIT.

THEN WE'VE DONE OUR JOB.
