What’s for Dinner? Wild Plants and Frogs...

A widow and her son struggle for survival in Laos. Then came a landmine and a storm—could things get any worse? Read Transcript

LAND MINES KRAUZED CRATERS IN

SOUTHEAST ASIA.

I WAS PLANTING CORN WHEN A

LAND MIND EXPLODED STRIKING ME

IN MY LOWER BACK.

THE SITUATION GOT WORSE, SHE

BECAME A WIDOW FIVE YEARS AGO.

WHEN WE DIDN'T HAVE MONEY FOR

FOOD, I WOULD GATHER WILD PLANTS

OR BEG FROM OUR NEIGHBORS.

MY FUN TRIED TO CATCH SLUGS IN

THE BUSHES.

SHE CARES FOR HER 21-YEAR-OLD

SON WHO HAS SPECIAL NEEDS.

THEY WERE BARELY SURVIVING WHEN

THEIR ROOF CAVED IN.

IT WASN'T ENOUGH.

WHEN CBN LEARNED ABOUT CAMPA

AND HER SON, WE BOUGHT NEW

SHEETS TO REPLACE THE ROOF ON

THEIR HOME.

I AM SO HAPPY OUR ROOF WAS

REPLACED WITH BETTER MATERIALS.

THEN WE GAVE CAMPA PIGS TO

START A SMALL LIVESTOCK

BUSINESS.

CAMPA'S SOW GAVE BIRTH AND SHE

SOLD SOME OF THE PIGLETS.

THANKS TO THEIR NEW BUSINESS,

THEY WON'T HAVE TO FACE HUNGER

AGAIN.

I AM VERY HAPPY CBN CAME TO

OUR VILLAGE.

IT HELPS US WITH FOOD AND A ROOF

OVER OUR HEADS.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
