WELCOME TO THIS EDITION

OF CBN NEWS "NEWSWATCH," I'M

CHARLENE AARON.

Ephraim: AND I'M

EPHRAIM GRAHAM.

PEOPLE ARE FLEEING THE

CITIES AND SUBURBS, AND FIND

OUT WHERE THEY'RE GOING AND

WHY.

BREAKING NEWS OUT OF

ISRAEL, ROCKETS FIRED FROM

GAZA REACH A SUBURB OF TEL

AVIV AND ARE INTERCEPTED.

REPORTS ARE OF LITTLE

DAMAGE, BUT AS OUR BUREAU IN

JERUSALEM IS REPORTING, IT

PUTS A HIGHLY POPULATED AREA

ON HIGH ALERT.

CHRIS MITCHELL JOINS US WITH

MORE.

THE TERRORIST GROUPS ARE

THREA THREATENING MANY MORE

PEOPLE IN ISRAEL.

WHAT DOES THIS ATTACK MEAN

FOR THE POPULATION?

Reporter: WHAT IT MEANS

NOW, MARK, IS IT PUTS HALF

OF ISRAEL WITHIN RANGE.

ABOUT 20 MINUTES AGO, THERE

WAS A SIREN THAT WENT OFF IN

JERUSALEM.

SOMETHING I'VE NEVER SEEN.

I'VE BEEN HERE ABOUT 14

YEARS.

THIS REALLY ESCALATES THE

SITUATION DRAMATICALLY.

THE MUNICIPALITY JUST SAID

IT OPENED ALL OF THE BOMB

SHELTERS FOR HERE.

THIS IS A WHOLE NEW

SITUATION WHEN TEL AVIV AND

JERUSALEM ARE UNDER FIRE BY

ROCKETS FROM HAMAS FROM GAZA.

Mark: AND YOU SAID YOU

HAD NEVER HEARD OF ALL OF

THE BOMB SHELTERS BEING OPEN

IN JERUSALEM.

THIS IS NEW TO YOU AS WELL?

Reporter: WELL, IT

PROBABLY DID HAPPEN A COUPLE

OF YEARS AGO.

I WASN'T HERE AT THAT TIME.

I THINK YOU WOULD HAVE TO GO

BACK TO AROUND 2003, DURING

THE IRAQ WAR, WHEN THERE WAS

A THREAT OF MISSILES COMING

FROM SADDAM HUSSEIN AT THAT

TIME.

BUT JERUSALEM IS NOT USED TO

THIS.

BUT PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO

TALK ABOUT IT.

EARLIER TODAY I WAS TALKING

TO SOME PEOPLE HERE, AND

THEY WERE ASKING ME, WHERE

DO YOU GO FOR THE BOMB

SHELTER?

SO I THINK NOW ISRAELIS,

PARTICULARLY SEVERAL MILLION

ISRAELIS RIGHT NOW, ARE

THINKING WHAT ARE THEY GOING

TO DO IN CASE OF A BOMB OR

AN AIR RAID SIREN.

I WAS TALKING TO SOMEBODY

FROM ABOUT A 45 MINUTE DRIVE

FROM HERE, AND THEY WERE

SHOPPING AT I KIA IKEA, AND

THEY WERE RUNNING TO A BOMB

SHELTER.

I THINK ISRAEL IS TAKING

THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN

HALF OF THEIR POPULATION IS

WITHIN BOMB RANGE.

Mark: WE UNDERSTAND THE

MAJOR PORT OF ASHDOD IS

CLOSED, AND THIS ROCKET WAS

NOT FAR FROM THE COUNTRY'S

AIRPORT.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT

THAT?

Reporter: WELL, IF THE

ASHDOD AIRPORT CLOSES, IT IS

VERY SERIES.

SERIOUS.

I THINK EVEN MORE SERIOUS

WOULD BE BENGUI AIRPORT.

AND I HEARD SOME FLIGHTS

BEING CANCELLED BECAUSE OF

THE FLIGHTS THEY HAVE TO FLY

HERE IN GAZA.

THAT WOULD BE DRAMATIC IF

THEY CLOSE DOWN THE

AIRPORT.

THAT IS ISRAEL'S MAIN

CONTACT WITH THE OUTSIDE

WORLD.

THEY O ONLY HAVE ONE MAJOR

INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

THAT WOULD BE AN ESCALATION

I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

AGAIN, I THINK THIS IS

SOMETHING THAT THE POLITICAL

LEADERSHIP AND THE MILITARY

LEADERSHIP IS TAKING QUITE

SERIOUSLY RIGHT NOW.

THEY'VE BEEN SAYING

THROUGHOUT THE DAY, WHETHER

IT IS THE DEFENSE MINISTER,

AND WE TALKED ERLLARY TODAY

EARLIER TODAY TO ONE OF THE

FORMER MILITARY ADVISORS,

AND THEY SAD SAID THEY WANT

TO STOP THE ROCKETS OUT OF

GAZA.

Mark: HOW DO YOU THINK

THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT WILL

RESPOND TO THE GROWING

MISSILE THREAT.

YOU TALKED ABOUT A GROWING

INSURGENT.

TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT

THAT.

Reporter: THEY CALLED

UP ABOUT 40,000 INSURGENTS.

AND THAT'S AS MANY AS THEY

CAN GET RIGHT NOW.

NOT ALL 40,000 HAVE BEEN

CALLED UP, NECESSARILY.

WHAT HAPPENS HERE IN ISRAEL

IS WHEN THE RESERVES ARE

CALLED UP, IT RIPPLES

THROUGH ALL OF ISRAEL

SOCIETY BECAUSE MOST

EVERYONE HERE SERVES IN THE

ARMY.

THAT MEANS IF THEY SERVE TWO

OR THREE YEARS, DEPENDING IF

THEY'RE MALE ON FEMALE,

THEY'RE ELIGIBLE FOR RESERVE

DUTY.

AND ALMOST EVERYBODY COULD

BE CALLED UP IN ONE WAY OR

ANOTHER.

AND, AGAIN, THIS IS JUST

SOMETHING THAT THE WHOLE

NATION SORT OF MOBILIZES

FOR.

RIGHT NOW THERE IS A LOT OF

ARMOR, A LOT OF TANKS, A LOT

OF MILITARY EQUIPMENT GOING

DOWN RIGHT BESIDE GAZA FOR A

POSSIBLE GROUND INCURSION.

BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF RISKS

HERE.

IT COULD BE A GREAT DANGER

FOR THE CIVILIAN POPULATION

AND FOR THE SOLDIERS

THEMSELVES.

THIS IS A WEIGHTY DECISION

THAT BENJAMIN NETANYAHU WILL

HAVE TO WEIGH.

Mark: YOU GOT SOME

VIDEO OF PEOPLE RUNNING DOWN

THE STREETS, WITH SOME

SIRENS IN JERUSALEM.

WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT

THAT?

Reporter: AS I SAID,

ABOUT 20 MINUTES AGO, THERE

WAS THE SIREN WE HEARD HERE,

AND SAW PEOPLE RUNNING UP

THE STREET, GOING TO

PROBABLY ONE OF THE HOTELS.

A LOT OF THE HOTELS HAVE

BOMB SHELTERS.

EVER SINCE THE GULF WAR,

1991, BY LAW ALL OF THE NEW

HOMES IN ISRAEL HAVE TO HAVE

A BOMB SHELTER.

SO MOST EVERY BUILDING HAS A

BOMB SHELTER.

AND SO SOME PEOPLE START

RUNNING.

AND THERE ARE A COUPLE OF

BOMB SHELTERS IN THE

MUNICIPALITY.

AND THAT'S QUITE A DRAMATIC

ESCALATION TO THE SITUATION

RIGHT HERE.

WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS

TOMORROW AND IN THE DAYS TO

COME.

BUT RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE

IT COULD ESCALATE EVEN MORE

DRAMATICALLY.

Mark: AND WHAT ARE THE

IMPLICATIONS TO THIS, OR

FROM THIS, FOR THE MIDDLE

EAST AS A WHOLE?

Reporter: WELL, IT JUST

COMPLICATES THE SITUATION

RIGHT NOW.

HAMAS IS -- WE'VE BEEN

TRYING TO TALK ABOUT THIS

MOST OF THE DAY.

WHAT ARE THE CONSIDERATIONS,

AND WHY IS HAMAS DOING THIS

RIGHT NOW?

TALKING EARLIER TODAY, THEY

SAID HAMAS IS LOOKING FOR

THREE THINGS.

FROM EGYPT, THEY WANT THE

RAFFA CROSSING OPEN.

FROM THE PALESTINIAN

AUTHORITY THAT HAS CUT OFF

THEIR FUNDING, THEY WANT

THAT FUNDING RESTORED.

AND FROM ISRAEL, THEY'RE

ASKING THAT SOME OF THE

PEOPLE THAT WERE RELEASED

DURING THE GILLAD SHALIT

NEGOTIATIONS TO BE FREED.

Mark: CHRIS MITCHELL,

OUR JERUSALEM BUREAU CHIEF.

THANK YOU FOR STAYING ON TOP

OF THIS, AND STAY SAFE, TO

YOU AND YOUR CREW.

Reporter: THANK YOU,

MARK.

I APPRECIATE IT.

Mark: WE'RE GOING TO

SEND IT BACK TO EPHRAIM AND

CHARLENE FOR MORE OF THE

DAY'S NEWS.

PRESIDENT OBAMA IS ASKING

CONGRESS FOR $2 BILLION TO

DEAL WITH THE FLOOD OF

LATIN-AMERICAN CHILDREN

ILLEGALLY CROSSING INTO THE

U.S.

MEANWHILE, THERE IS GROWING

FRUSTRATION AMONG TEXAS

CHURCHES THAT WANT TO HELP

THOSE CHILDREN.

AS HEATHER CELLS REPORTS,

THEY'RE WAITING TO HEAR JUST

HOW THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

WILL USE THEM.

AND THEY'RE HOPING THEY'LL

SOON BE ABLE TO MINISTER

DIRECTLY TO THESE KIDS.

Reporter: MANY TEXAS

CHURCHES HAVE KNOWN FOR

MONTHS ABOUT THE TITLE WAVE

OF IMMIGRANT CHILDREN

CROSSING THE BORDER.

ALREADY THIS YEAR BORDER

PATROL AGENTS HAVE DETAINED

MORE THAN 50,000.

CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS SIX ARE

CROSSING THE BORDER HERE ON

THEIR OWN, SPURRED ON IN

MANY CASES BY PARENTS WHO

FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES IN

CENTRAL AMERICA.

AT THE ANNUAL STATE MEETING

THIS MONTH, HISPANIC LEADERS

TOOK TIME OUT TO PRAY AT THE

BORDER.

THEIR CONCERN, THE SAFETY

AND SALVATION OF THESE

KIDS.

THEIR FRUSTRATION, NO WAY TO

CONNECT WITH OR MINISTER TO

THEM, THE HOPE THAT ONGOING

CONVERSATION WITH THE WHITE

HOUSE WILL LEAD TO THAT

ACCESS.

WE HAVE AN ARMY OF

CHAPLAINS.

WE HAVE AN ARMY OF DISASTER

RELIEF-TRAINED PEOPLE.

WE HAVE AN ARMY OF

CHILDREN'S MINISTERS AND

LEADERS WHO HAVE BACKGROUND

CHECKS, WHO ARE READY.

Reporter: IN THE BORDER

TOWN OF McGALLEN, PASTOR

CHAD MASON WORKS THE PHONES

DAILY, TRYING TO FIND WAYS

TO HELP THESE CHILDREN, AND

FIELDING CALLS FROM CHURCHES

THAT WANT TO HELP.

HE KNOWS FIRSTHAND OF THE

NEED BECAUSE MANY BORDER

PATROL AGENTS WORSHIP AT HIS

CHURCH.

THEY TELL US THE STORY OF

KIDS IN THEIR CARE, AND

THEY'RE TRAUMATIZED OR

INCREDIBLY IMPOVERISHED.

WE KNOW THE BORDER PATROL IS

NOT DESIGNED TO BE A CHILD

CARE FACILITY.

Reporter: RIGHT NOW

BORDER PATROL AGENTS ARE

DETAINING KIDS FOR AS MANY

AS 14 DAYS, A CONDITION

HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS SAY

IS UNACCEPTABLE.

BY LAW, HOWEVER, AGENTS

CANNOT QUICKLY RETURN

CHILDREN FROM CENTRAL

AMERICA BACK TO THEIR HOME

COUNTRIES.

THEY MUST SCREEN THEM AS

POTENTIAL TRAFFICKING

VICTIMS OR REFUGEES.

THAT LEAVES THOUSANDS OF

KIDS STRANDED IN BORDER

PATROL STATIONS FOR DAYS.

AND AFTER THAT, IN HEALTH

AND HUMAN SERVICE FACILITIES

FOR POSSIBLY MONTHS.

THAT'S WHAT BREAKS OUR

HEARTS.

WE KNOW THAT THERE IS A

NEED.

AND AT THIS POINT WE HAVE NO

ACCESS TO TRY TO CARE FOR

THAT NEED.

Reporter: ONE WAY THE

CHURCHES RIGHT NOW ARE

HELPING IS BY SIMPLY DOING

LAUNDRY.

THIS BEDDING HERE IS FOR

WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO ARE

JUST COMING FROM BORDER

PATROL STATIONS AND ARE

ABOUT TO HEAD OUT ON BUSES

TO WHEREVER THEIR

DESTINATION IS.

THE BORDER PATROL RELEASES

IMMIGRANT WOMEN WITH THEIR

CHILDREN AT BUS STATIONS

ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS.

WITH THEIR DEPORTATION

HEARINGS MONTHS AWAY,

THEY'RE FREE TO GO FOR NOW.

THOUGH BY SOME ESTIMATES,

HUGE NUMBERS OF THEM WILL

NEVER SHOW UP.

CAVALRY BAPTIST AND OTHER

CHURCHES ARE WORKING WITH

CATHOLIC. CHARITIES IN McGALLEN AND

BROWNSVILLE TO CARE FOR

THESE CHILDREN.

THEY ARE OFTEN IN DIRE NEED

OF FOOD, SHELTER, AND

CLOTHES.

THIS WEEK THE NATIONAL

HISPANIC CHRISTIAN

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE HAS

BEGUN TO WORK WITH

LATIN-AMERICAN CHURCHES, TO

URGE PARENTS NOT TO SEND

THEIR CHILDREN TO THE UNITED

STATES.

THE GOAL: REDUCE THE NUMBER

OF UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN AT

THE BORDER TO ZERO BY YEAR'S

END.

IN THE MEANTIME, TEXAS

CHURCHES ARE STANDING BY,

READY TO HELP THOSE WHO DO

DECIDE TO COME.

BIBLICALLY, WE'RE GOING

TO LOVE PEOPLE RIGHT NOW.

WE NEED TO SHARE THAT LOVE

AND COMPASSION TO THOSE WHO

NEED IT THE MOST.

Ephraim: AND HEATHER

HAS JUST RETURNED FROM THE

U.S.-MEXICO BORDER AND JOINS

US NOW.

HEARTBREAKING ALL THE WAY

AROUND.

WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO

ALL OF THESE KIDS IN THE

COMING MONTHS?

Reporter: AS I WAS

MENTIONING, THE CHILDREN ARE

IN THE BORDER PATROL

STATIONS, AND THEY'RE ONLY

SUPPOSED TO STAY FOR 72

HOURS BY LAW, BUT IT IS

GOING TO 14 DAYS IN SOME

CASES.

THEY'RE LOOKING AT TEMPORARY

FACILITIES IN TEXAS AND

OTHER STATES.

AND THEY'RE HOPING THAT THE

CHURCH WILL ENCOURAGE

COMMUNITIES TO WELCOME THESE

KIDS, AND NOT GIVE THE

PUSHBACK LIKE THEY DID IN

CALIFORNIA.

Ephraim: WE'RE SEEING

THOSE PROTESTS.

AND MANY PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW

WHY NOT SEND THEM RIGHT

BACK.

IF THEY'RE FROM MEXICO,

THEY CAN SEND THEM BACK.

BUT IF THEY'RE FROM

ELSEWHERE, THEY HAVE TO

DETERMINE IF THEY'RE

TRAFFICKING VICTIMS, OR GANG

VIOLENCE, AND THEY DO

QUALIFY FOR ASYLUM.

SO THERE IS A LEGAL PROCESS

THAT NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE,

AND THAT, OF COURSE, TAKES

TIME.

Ephraim: ONCE THE

CHURCHES GET THE GREEN

LIGHT, WHAT ARE THEY ABLE TO

DO?

THERE ARE HUMANITARIAN

RELIEF GROUPS, AND THEY ARE

TRAINED, AND THEY CAN GO IN

AND PHYSICALLY HELP THESE

KIDS AND PROVIDE SPIRITUAL

COUNCIL.

THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE HELPING

TO DO.

Ephraim: WHY DO PARENTS

SEND THEIR KIDS ACROSS THE

BORDER?

Reporter: RIGHT.

THERE ARE IS COUPLE OF

FACTORS THAT HAVE COME

TOGETHER.

A LOT OF PARENTS HAVE

THOUGHT FOR YEARS, COULD I

GET MY KID AWAY FROM THESE

TERRIBLE CONDITIONS WHERE

THEY LIVE?

OR PARENTS IN THE U.S.,

COULD I BRING MY CHILD

LIVING WITH GRANDPARENTS IN

LATIN-AMERICA, TO US.

BUT WHAT IS INTERESTING IS

THAT SAMUEL RODRIGUEZ, THE

PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL

HISPANIC LEADERSHIP

CONFERENCE, SAID THEY COULD

COME HERE AND GET INVOLVED

IN DRUG GANGS HERE AS WELL.

SO, PARENTS, PLEASE DO NOT

SEND YOUR KIDS.

Ephraim: IT RAISES YET

MORE CONCERNS.

WHAT CAN PEOPLE DO IF THEY

WANT TO HELP THESE

CHILDREN?

THERE ARE PRACTICAL

NEEDS.

CLOTHING AND MONEY TO HELP

BUY FOOD AND OTHER SUCH

THINGS.

THERE IS A WEBSITE.

WE'RE PUTTING IT UP ON THE

SCREEN.

thesouthTexasrefugees.org

WEBSITE, AND IT IS A LOT

OF FAITH GROUPS AND

SALVATION ARMY'S, THAT ARE

LISTING THE PRACTICAL NEEDS

AND UPDATES ON THIS

WEBSITE.

Ephraim: THANK YOU SO

MUCH, HEATHER.

SEGMENTS OF OUR COUNTRY ARE

RECOVERING FROM VIOLENT

STORMS THAT HIT ON MONDAY.

THERE WERE TORNADO WARNINGS

FOR A LARGE SWATH OF

MASSACHUSETTS, WHERE THE

FAST-MOVING STORMS UPROOTED

TREES AND DOWNED POWER LINES

IN SEVERAL COMMUNITIES.

THOSE DOWNED LINES SPARKED A

FIRE IN ONE OF THE HARDEST

HIT AREAS.

RESIDENTS IN MICHIGAN ARE

CLEANING UP, FOLLOWING

STORMS THAT MOVED THROUGH

PARTS OF THAT STATE.

STRONG WINDS UPROOTED TREES

AND KNOCKED THEM INTO POWER

LINES IN KENTWOOD.

THE DAMAGE LEFT MANY PEOPLE

STUNNED.

SOMETHING YOU SEE MAYBE

ONCE EVERY 10, 15 YEARS,

UNLESS YOU'RE ON THE COAST

LOOKING AT HURRICANE

DAMAGE.

WE'RE GETTING STRUCTURES

UNCOVERED SO INSURANCE

COMPANIES CAN DO THEIR

WORK.

Ephraim: IN IOWA, A

CALM HOLIDAY WEEKEND QUICKLY

TURNED TURBULENT.

TORNADOES DAMAGED HOMES AND

UPROOTED TREES ABOUT

20 MILES SOUTHWEST OF

WATERLOO.

THE WORLD'S BIGGEST OIL

PRODUCER IS NOT SAUDI ARABIA

OR ANY OTHER MIDDLE EASTERN

COUNTRY.

IT IS THE UNITED STATES.

THE U.S. HAS TAKEN OVER THE

NUMBER ONE POSITION,

ACCORDING TO A REPORT FROM

BANK OF AMERICA.

A BANK ANALYST SAYS THE

SHELL OIL BOOM IS PLAYING A

KEY ROLE.

ONE KEY REASON FOR THE

INCREASE IN U.S. ENERGY IS

FRACKING, WHICH BRINGS OIL

OUT OF SHALE ROCK

FORMATIONS.

BUT MANY ENVIRONMENTALISTS

OPPOSE FRACKING, AND THEY'RE

TRYING TO STOP IT BY

REGULATIONS IN SOME TOWNS.

COMING UP, AN APOLOGY

FROM THE POPE.

BUT DID HE GO FAR ENOUGH TO

HEAL THE WOUNDS IN THE

CATHOLIC CHURCH?

Ephraim: POPE FRANCIS

IS ASKING FORGIVENESS FROM

THE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE

AT THE HANDS OF CATHOLIC

CLERGY, AND HE IS VOWING TO

HOLD BISHOPS RESPONSIBLE FOR

THE PROTECTION OF MINORS.

THE POPE MET FOR THE FIRST

TIME WITH SIX VICTIMS OF THE

ABUSE AND HELD A SPECIAL

MASS FOR THEM.

BUT OTHER VICTIMS WHO WERE

NOT AT THE MEETING WERE

CRITICAL OF IT.

TO ME, IT IS A P.R.

MOVE.

I HOPE THAT THE VICTIMS HE

MET WITH -- I HOPE THEY FIND

HEALING.

BUT THE MEETING TODAY ISN'T

GOING TO PROTECT THE CHILD,

AND THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO

DO.

Ephraim: DOING HIS

HOMILY, THE POPE DID NOT

SPELL OUT HOW HE WOULD HOLD

BISHOPS ACCOUNTABLE.

Charlene: THE U.S. IS

URGING CHINA TO RELEASE A

CHRISTIAN PASTOR WHO WAS

SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN

PRISON.

HE WAS CONVICTED OF FRAUD

AND GATHERING CROWDS TO

DISTURB THE PUBLIC ORDER.

HIS LAWYER SAID HIS CHURCH

WAS IN A DISPUTE WITH LOCAL

AUTHORITIES OVER LAND FOR A

NEW BUILDING.

THE NEW YORK STATE

DEPARTMENT'S SPOKES WOMEN

SAYS HE WAS PROSECUTED IN

RETALIATION FOR PEACEFUL

ADVOCACY ON BEHALF OF HIS

CHURCH, AND THAT THEY SHOULD

RELEASE HIM.

AND THEY SAID CHINESE

OFFICIALS SHOULD ALLOW

CITIZENS TO WORSHIP FREELY.

Ephraim: INDIA'S

SUPREME COURT HAS RULED

ISLAMIC COURTS IN THEIR

COUNTRY HAVE NO LEGAL

AUTHORITY, AND PEOPLE ARE

NOT BOUND BY ANY OF THEIR

DECREASE.

DECREES.

IN 2005 A PETITION WAS FILED

IN THE COUNTRY'S HIGHEST

COURT, SAYING MUSLIM GROUPS

WERE RUNNING A PARALLEL

SYSTEM.

AND THE JUDGE SAID, NO

RELIGION IS ALLOW TO CURB

ANYONE'S FUNDAMENTAL

RIGHTS.

INDIA IS A PREDOMINANTLY

HINDU COUNTRY WITH A LARGE

MUSLIM MINORITY.

Charlene: UP NEXT,

AMERICANS FLEEING CITIES AND

SUBURBS AND MOVING TO THE

PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE

MOVEMENT CALLED "THET IS

AMERICAN REDOUBT," AFTER

THIS.

Charlene: WHAT IF YOU

REALLY COULD GET AWAY FROM

IT ALL AND MOVE TO A PLACE

WHERE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

FELT SAFE AND COULD REALLY

ENJOY LIFE?

THAT'S JUST WHAT SOME

CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS ARE

DOING.

Ephraim: THEY'RE SO

WORRIED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF

AMERICA, THEY'VE GONE TO THE

AMERICAN REDOUBT.

THE WORD "REDOUBT" MEANS

FORTRESS OR A SAFE,

PROTECTED PLACE.

CHUCK HOLTON HAS THEIR STORY

FROM IDAHO.

THE POLICE ARE ON THE

STREETS OF LOS ANGELES RIGHT

NOW.

Reporter: ALARM OVER

THE FUTURE OF AMERICA CAN BE

SEEN ALMOST DAILY IN THE

HEADLINES.

THE LOSS OF PRIVACY,

CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOMS, AND

OUT OF CONTROL GOVERNMENT

SPENDING ARE JUST A FEW OF

THE REASONS SENDING

SHOCKWAVES ACROSS THE

COUNTRY.

CHRISTIAN BAKERS I IN

OREGON --

Reporter: RE LEGIONS

RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION IS ON

THE RISE.

DAVE WESTBROOK MOVED HIS

FAMILY OUT OF THE CITY 12

YEARS AGO.

I WAS PASTORING A CITY

CHURCH.

AND IT WAS THROUGH MY OWN

BIBLE STUDY AND MY OWN

PRAYER LIFE THAT I BECAME

CONVICTED, THAT I NEEDED TO

DO SOMETHING.

WE NEEDED TO LIVE IN A

DIFFERENT SITUATION.

Reporter: THE AREA HE

CHOSE IS ATTRACTING MORE AND

MORE LIKE-MINDED FAMILIES

EVERY YEAR, THE INLAND

PACIFIC NORTHWEST.

IT INCLUDES MONTANA,

WYOMING, IDAHO, AND THE

EASTERN PARTS OF WASHINGTON

AND OREGON.

THE MEMBERS CALL THIS

MOVEMENT THE "AMERICAN

REDOUBT".

ULTIMATELY, WE BELIEVE

THAT GOD LED US TO THE

NORTHWEST.

I THINK PEOPLE ARE

RECOGNIZING THAT TOUGH TIMES

ARE COMING.

IT IS CAUSING THEM TO THINK

ABOUT HOW THEY LIVE NOW, AND

THE SECURITY OF THEIR

FAMILY, THE STABILITY OF

SOCIETY, AND HOW THEY'RE

GOING TO RELATE TO THAT.

BUT I'M FINDING SOMETHING

ELSE, TOO.

AND THAT IS THAT MORE AND

MORE PEOPLE ARE RESONATING

WITH THIS IDEA OF GETTING

BACK TO THE LAND.

OF LIVING A SIMPLE, MORE

NATURAL WAY.

I MEAN, THAT DOESN'T

SURPRISE ME BECAUSE THE WAY

I SEE IT, THE CREATOR WIRED

US FOR THIS.

Reporter: IDAHO IS A

PARADISE FOR NATURE-LOVERS

OF ALL KINDS.

AND IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE

LEAST POPULATED STATES IN

THE UNION.

THAT'S A BIG DRAW FOR THE

KIND OF PEOPLE WHO WOULD

COME TO THE "AMERICAN

REDOUBT," NOT NECESSARILY

BECAUSE THEY WANT TO GET

AWAY FROM EVERYBODY, BUT

BECAUSE THEY FEEL IT IS MORE

FREE FOR THEM TO LIVE AND

WORK AND WORSHIP AS THEY

PLEASE.

WHERE YOUR KIDS CAN RUN

FREE.

THEY'RE SPENDING TIME WITH

LIVESTOCK, WITH THE HORSES.

THEY'RE IN THE GARDEN.

WE SAW HOW QUICKLY THINGS

DETERIORATED.

Reporter: JOHN AND

SARAH ENJOYED LIFE IN

FLORIDA UNTIL A HURRICANE

CHANGED THEIR OUTLOOK

FOREVER.

THEY ASKED WE NOT SHOW THEIR

FACES.

HOW FRAGILE OUR SITUATION

IS.

I WITNESSED PEOPLE GET IN A

FIST FIGHT OVER BAGS OF

ICE.

I REALIZED IF THINGS WERE TO

GET WORSE IN THIS COUNTRY, I

NEED TO BE SOME PLACE SAFE,

OUT OF THE BIG CITY.

Reporter: THE COUPLE

INVESTED THEIR LIFE SAVINGS

AND RECENTLY MOVED TO THE

"AMERICAN REDOUBT."

AND SO FAR THEY ARE EXCITED

ABOUT THEIR CHOICE.

RIGHT NOW I CAN SAY I'M

EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW

CHALLENGES AND THE NEW LIFE

WE HAVE EMBRACED, THAT WE'RE

PREPARED AND READY TO FACE.

WHAT CHALLENGES ARE COMING

OUR WAY?

I DON'T KNOW.

BUT I KNOW THAT GOD BROUGHT

US HERE AND GOD WILL BRING

US THROUGH ANY TROUBLES WE

DO HAVE.

WELCOME AND THANKS FOR

LISTENING TO RADIO FREE

REDOUBT.

Reporter: THE GROWTH

HERE HAS SPAWNED RADIO

PROGRAMS, WEBSITES, AND EVEN

ITS OWN SILVER COINS.

TODD SAVAGE MOVED HIS REAL

ESTATE BUSINESS FROM SAN

FRANCISCO, AND NOW HELPS

PEOPLE LOOKING TO MAKE THE

MOVE.

THE CORE OF THIS MOVEMENT

IS TO HELP LIKE-MINDED AND

CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS NEW

TO THE REDOUBT AREA.

EASTERN WASHINGTON, IDAHO,

MONTANA, AND SOMETIMES

WYOMING.

AND IT IS A WONDERFUL PLACE

TO BE TO EDUCATE YOUR

CHILDREN AND TO HAVE

FREEDOM.

SINCE THE RE-ELECTION OF

PRESIDENT OBAMA, WE'VE SEEN

A HUGE INCREASE.

Reporter: BUT IT IS NOT

ABOUT BEING EXCLUSIVE.

IT'S ABOUT LIBERTY.

THE "AMERICAN REDOUBT" IS

MEANT FOR FREEDOM-LOVING

FOLKS THAT ARE ACCEPTING OF

EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF

THEIR RELIGIOUS PREFERENCES

OR THEIR SKIN COLOR.

Reporter: AND IT IS NOT

JUST FAMILIES.

BUSINESSES ARE MOVING IN AS

WELL.

ONE NOTABLE GROWTH INDUSTRY,

GUN AND AMMO MANUFACTURERS

DRIVEN OUT OF OTHER STATES.

THERE ARE NOW 180 IN IDAHO

ALONE.

BUT DAVE SAYS THE BIGGEST

DRAW IS SPIRITUAL.

BUT THE ENVIRONMENT IS SO

MUCH MORE CONDUCIVE.

TH EINSO MUCH MORAND I

THINK SO MUCH MORE CONDUCIVE

TO OUR SPIRITUAL WALK WITH

GOD.

THAT'S WHY WE DID THIS,

BECAUSE IT IS A WAY OF

LIFE.

Reporter: FOR NORTHERN

I'D I, I'M CHUCK HOLTON FOR

CBN NEWS.

Charlene: FINALLY

TODAY, "OPERATION BLESSING"

IS HELPING FLOOD VICTIMS IN

PENSACOLA, FLORIDA, RETURN

HOME.

Ephraim: BACK IN MAY,

PENSACOLA WAS HIT BY SOME OF

THE HEAVIEST RAIN AND MORE

THAN 100 YEARS.

FLOODWATERS DAMAGED THE

INTERIOR OF MARJORIE'S HOME

AND DESTROYED MANY OF HER

FAMILY'S BELONGINGS.

"OPERATION BLESSING" HELPED

REMOVE WATER DAMAGE,

DRYWALL, HELPED INSTALL NEW

CABINETS AND APPLIANCES, AND

EVEN BROUGHT NEW FURNITURE

FOR HER TWINS' BEDROOM.

Charlene: WELL, THAT'S

GOING TO DO IT NOW FOR CBN

NEWS TODAY.

YOU CAN FIND MORE OF OUR

EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE ON

CBN.COM.

Ephraim: TELL US WHAT

YOU THINK ABOUT THE STORIES

YOU HAVE SEEN HERE TODAY.

YOU CAN DO IT AT Facebook

OR AT CBN NEWS ON TWITTER.

MAKE IT A TERRIFIC TUESDAY,

EVERYBODY.

HOPE YOU'LL JOIN US AGAIN

NEXT TIME.
