COMING FROM SOMEBODY

WHO HAS RAISED KIDS UP

THROUGH AND INTO

ADULTHOOD, THERE IS

NOTHING LIKE DEALING WITH

DISCIPLINE.

FOR ME IT WAS LEARNING TO

BE PATIENT.

Andrew: IT IS A TOUGH

JOB, BUT SOMEONE HAS TO DO

IT.

WE SEE ALL OF THE

VIOLENCE.

WE SEE ALL OF THE CRIME

THAT IS TAKING PLACE.

WE'RE LIVING IN SUCH A

TIME RIGHT NOW WHERE THE

HEARTS OF MEN NEED TO BE

TURNED BACK TO THIS YOUNG

GENERATION.

Andrew: CELEBRATING

FATHER'S DAY ON TODAY'S

"700 CLUB INTERACTIVE."

*

Andrew: GOOD MORNING,

AND WELCOME TO THE SHOW.

FATHER'S DAY IS COMING UP.

A DAY TO HONOR FATHERS AND

CELEBRATE FATHERHOOD, AND

REMEMBER THE INFLUENCE OF

FATHERS IN OUR SOCIETY.

Terry: FROM A LITTLE

LEAGUE COACH TO A PRINCESS

PROTECTOR, THE ROLE OF DAD

IS DIVERSE AND IT CAN BE

FULL OF CHALLENGES.

WE SAT DOWN WITH THREE

DADS WHO SHARED THEIR

HIGHS AND LOWS ON

FATHERHOOD.

TAKE A LOOK.

MY NAME IS TIM

MAYFIELD.

I'VE BEEN MARRIED 26

YEARS, AND I HAVE TWO

BOYS, ONE IS 30 AND ONE IS

25.

I'VE BEEN MARRIED FOR

EIGHT YEARS NOW.

I HAVE TWO LITTLE GIRLS,

AND THEY'RE ABOUT TO BE

SEVEN AND FIVE YEARS OLD.

MY FAM NAIM NAME IS ANTHONY

HEART.

I'VE BEEN MARRIED ALMOST

10 YEARS NOW, AND I HAVE A

SON AND TWO DAUGHTERS.

FAMILY IS REALLY

IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT

ALLOWS YOU TO SEE WHAT

YOU'RE CAPABLE OF.

TIM, I THINK FAMILY IS

YOUR SUPPORT GROUP.

HOW DOES FATHERHOOD

AFFECT THE WAY YOU'RE A

HUSBAND?

IT ADDS A DYNAMIC TO IT

THAT MAKES ALL PROBLEMS

INTENSIFY.

IT PUSHES ME TO BE A

BETTER HUSBAND BECAUSE I

WAS A TEACHER TO MY

CHILDREN.

WHAT DO YOU AND YOUR

WIFE FIGHT ABOUT THE MOST?

OUR VIEWS AND OUR

OPINIONS ON JUST LIFE.

MAYBE THE LACK OF

PARENTING, OR THE LACK OF

CONTROL SOMETIMES.

COMING FROM SOMEBODY

WHO HAS RAISED KIDS UP

THROUGH AND INTO

ADULTHOOD, THERE IS

NOTHING LIKE DEALING WITH

DISCIPLINE.

AND THAT WAS OUR BIGGEST

DISAGREEMENT IN OUR

MARRIAGE.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IT

TAKES TO BE A GOOD

HUSBAND, FATHER, AND MAN?

TO ME IT WAS LEARNING

TO BE PATIENT.

DESCRIBE FATHERHOOD IN

FIVE WORDS.

GIVING.

STRESSFUL.

SURPRISING.

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHAT'S

GOING TO HAPPEN AS A

FATHER, WITH KIDS.

FULFILLING.

AND REWARDING.

AND WHEN THE TIME I

WAKE UP UNTIL THE TIME I

GO TO BED, EVERYTHING I DO

IS FOR MY CHILDREN.

FATHERHOOD IS ETERNAL.

THE THINGS MY DAD FLOWED

INTO ME WILL ALWAYS BE IN

ME AND I WILL POUR THEM

INTO MY KIDS.

WE HAVE A CHANCE TO PUT AN

IMPRINT INTERNALLY.

Andrew: THEY COVERED

A LOT OF GROUND THERE,

OBVIOUSLY.

ONE THING I AGREED WITH

THERE IS SURPRISING.

[LAUGHTER]

Andrew: AS A PARENT,

FOR MOMS AND DADS, WE FIND

OUT SO MUCH ABOUT

OURSELVES THAT WE NEVER

KNEW ABOUT OURSELVES

BEFORE WE WERE PARENTS.

Terry: AS WE LIKE TO

SAY IN OUR HOUSE, IF YOU

HAVE A FLAW, IT IS GOING

TO WIGGLE ITS WAY UP.

Andrew: AND IT CAN BE

PAINFUL.

Terry: IT CAN BE

PAINFUL, BUT I LOVE THE

PURPOSEFULNESS OF WHAT

THESE DADS SAID.

NOT YOU CAN, BUT YOU ARE

IMPACTING A LIFE ONE WAY

OR THE OTHER.

IF THESE MEN ARE TALKING

ABOUT ALL OF THESE THINGS

THEY WORK HARD AT PUTTING

INTO THE LIVES OF THEIR

CHILDREN, THINK OF THE

CHILDREN WHO DON'T HAVE

ANYBODY DOING THAT.

Andrew: RECENTLY I

WAS HAVING A MOMENT IN

WHICH I WAS FEELING

OVERWHELMED BY DIFFERENT

THINGS, WHATEVER THE

CIRCUMSTANCES WERE.

THEY WEREN'T OUT OF

CONTROL, BUT YOU HAVE

MOMENTS OF FEELING

OVERWHELMED.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT

PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING

ACCEPT MY CHILDREN AT THAT

POINT.

AND MY SMALLEST, NEARLY

FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRL, WALKED

IN, AND I REALLY FELT THE

HOLY SPIRIT SAY, THAT'S

THE PRIORITY.

THAT IS WHERE YOUR

ATTENTION SHOULD BE.

AND I WAS SOMETHING THAT I

KNEW, BUT SOMETIMES WE

NEED THOSE REMINDERS.

Terry: WE ALL NEED TO

BE REMINDED.

LIFE IS NOT JUST FULL OF

SURPRISES, BUT IT IS FULL.

JUST FULL PERIOD.

AND THAT'S WHY I THINK GOD

PUT US IN THE FAMILY OF

HIS CHURCH, AND WHERE WE

HAVE FRIENDS THAT ARE

ALMOST LIKE FAMILY, AND

THEY'RE THE ONES WHO SPEAK

THAT INTO US WHEN WE NEED

TO HEAR IT.

Andrew: ACCORDING TO

STATISTICS, THE U.S. LEADS

IN FATHERLESSNESS.

15 MILLION AMERICAN

CHILDREN -- THAT'S ONE IN

THREE -- LIVE WITHOUT A

FATHER.

AND AROUND 41% OF CHILDREN

ARE BORN TO SINGLE

MOTHERS.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR

THE GENERATION COMING UP?

ONE THING WE KNOW IS THESE

CHILDREN WILL NEED MEN TO

STAND UP.

PASTOR LUIS REYES TELLS US

MORE.

I'M PASTOR LUIS REYES.

I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU

ABOUT MALACHI, CHAPTER

FOUR, FIVE, AND SIX, WHERE

GOD SAID I WILL SEND BACK

THE PROPHET ELIJAH BEFORE

THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS

CHRIST.

WE'RE LIVING IN SUCH A

TIME RIGHT NOW WHERE THE

HEARTS OF MEN NEED TO BE

TURNED BACK TO THIS YOUNG

GENERATION.

THAT'S GOD'S PROMISE, THAT

HE WOULD SEND ELIJAH TO

TURN THE HEARTS OF MEN

BACK TO THE CHILDREN, SO

THAT THE HEARTS OF

CHILDREN WOULD BE TURNED

BACK TO THE FATHER.

RIGHT NOW THE GREATEST

NEED FOR A YOUNG

GENERATION IS FATHERS.

AND FATHERS WHO LOVE THEIR

CHILDREN.

I TELL MEN THIS ALL OF THE

TIME: YOU DON'T NEED TO BE

GIFTED.

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE

ANOINTED.

YOU JUST NEED TO LOVE YOUR

CHILDREN.

GOD SAID IN HIS WORD, HE

CANNOT STAND FOR A

GENERATION TO BE LOST AND

NEVER KNOW HIM.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE YOUNG

GENERATION TODAY, AND WE

SEE ALL OF THE DIFFERENT

AILS THAT THEY'RE GOING

THROUGH RIGHT NOW, WE SEE

ALL OF THE VIOLENCE, WE

SEE ALL OF THE CRIME THAT

IS TAKING PLACE, THE DRUG

ABUSE, WE SEE THE

INCARCERATION RATE, ALL OF

THOSE ARE SIGNS OF A YOUNG

GENERATION WHO DON'T HAVE

A FATHER.

IT IS A CRY FOR FATHERS TO

COME BACK AND LOVE THEIR

CHILDREN ONCE AGAIN.

I BELIEVE WHEN A MAN TURNS

HIS HEART TOWARDS HIS

CHILD, THAT FATHER BECOMES

A REPLICA OF THE GOODNESS

OF GOD IN THE LIFE OF THAT

CHILD.

THAT CHILD SEES GOD IN

THAT FATHER.

IT IS GOD'S EN-TIME PLAN.

END-TIME PLAN.

TO ACTUALLY SEE A MAN,

ONCE AGAIN, LOVE THEM AND

GIVE THEM AN IDENTITY AND

PUT PURPOSE BACK INTO

THEIR LIFE.

THIS IS WHAT GOD WANTS.

FOR 19 YEARS, I'VE HAD

THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY

OR REACHING CHILDREN IN MY

OWN MINISTRY, CALLED

"REACHING A GENERATIONS."

MARK 9: 7 SAYS, WHEN YOU

REACH THAT CHILD, YOU'RE

ACTUALLY BRINGING THAT

CHILD BACK INTO CHURCH.

SO WHEN THE COURAGE TAKES

A STEP AND PUTS A PRIORITY

ON THIS UP-AND-COMING

GENERATION, WE ARE

TOUCHING THE HEART OF GOD,

AND GOD WILL MAKE SURE

THAT THE PROVISION IS

THERE.

I WANT TO CHALLENGE YOU

TODAY: STEP OUT AND TURN

YOUR HEART TOWARDS YOUNG

PEOPLE.

REACH A GENERATION FOR

JESUS CHRIST.

Andrew: PASTOR LUIS

IS MAKING AN ENORMOUS

DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF

SO MANY PEOPLE.

WE HEAR IT OVER AND OVER,

TERRY.

THERE HAVE BEEN STUDIES

THAT HAVE SHOWN IT, AND

CONVERSATIONS YOU MAY HAVE

WITH PEOPLE, IF SOMEONE

GROWS UP WITH A VERY

NEGATIVE IMAGE OF THEIR

FATHER, THEIR FATHER IS

NOT IN THEIR LIFE AT ALL

OR IS A REAL NEGATIVE

INFLUENCE, THEIR VIEW OF

GOD IS SEVERELY WARPED.

IF THE FATHER IS ABSENT,

GOD IS ABSENT.

THAT ROLE, TO THE BEST OF

DAD'S ABILITY, IS CARRIED

OUT WITH GRACE.

Terry: THERE IS SUCH

A PROPHETIC WORD FOR THE

DAY WE LIVE IN, THE END

TIMES, THAT GOD IS GOING

TO TURN A GENERATION OF

FATHERS TO THEIR CHILDREN

AND CHILDREN TO THEIR

FATHERS.

I'M TRYING TO THINK OF WHO

THE DOCTOR IS THAT COMES

ON ALL OF THE TIME --

Andrew: IS IT KEVIN

LEMAN?

IT IS KEVIN LEMAN.

AND THERE ARE OTHERS WHO

SAY THIS AS WELL, THAT IT

IS THE MOTHER WHO NURTURES

THE CHILDREN, BUT IT IS

THE FATHER WHO CALLS FOR

THE WOMAN IN THE GIRL AND

THE MAN IN THE BOY.

SO THAT'S A HUGE LEAP AND

RESPONSIBILITY, TO GET A

PERSON FROM CHILDHOOD INTO

ADULTHOOD.

Andrew: AND I'M

TRYING TO REMEMBER SOME

GREAT ADVICE I HEARD

REGARDING PARENTING,

SPECIFICALLY RAISING A

DAUGHTER, AND IT IS: BE

THE MAN YOU WANT HER TO

MARRY.

Terry: THINK ABOUT

THAT.

Andrew: AND A

CONSIDERATION FOR DADS,

MOM AND DAD TOGETHER IN

THE HOME RAISING CHILDREN,

IF WE WANT TO BE GOOD

DADS, I THINK WE NEED TO

START BY TRYING TO BE GOOD

HUSBANDS, AND MODELING

THAT.

IT IS SOMETHING I'M

WORKING ON.

FOR DADS TO REALIZE THE

IMPORTANCE OF, WHAT ARE MY

CHILDREN SAYING?

CHILDREN WHO GROW UP IN

FATHERLESS HOMES HAVE A

MUCH GREATER RISK OF MAJOR

CHALLENGES IN LIFE THAN

THOSE WHO GROW UP WITH A

FATHER IN THE HOME.

BOYS WHO GROW UP IN HOMES

WITHOUT FATHERS ARE TWICE

AS LIKELY TO END UP IN

JAIL.

Terry: 63% OF YOUTH

SUICIDES ARE FROM

FATHERLESS HOMES.

THERE IS A STAT FOR YOU.

AND FATHERLESS CHILDREN

ARE ALSO AT A DRAMATICALLY

GREATER RISK OF BOTH DRUG

AND ALCOHOL ABUSE.

YOU CAN SEE IF WHAT YOU'RE

SAYING IS TRUE, JUST IN

OUR REGULAR RELATIONSHIPS

AND FAMILY, HOW ABOUT HOW

WE TREAT OUR NEIGHBORS,

HOW WE DO BUSINESS, THINGS

WE SAY WHEN WE'RE DRIVING

OUR CAR -- I'M WORKING ON

THAT ONE.

BUT OUR CHILDREN PICK UP

ON THESE THINGS.

THEY'RE ALMOST LIKE LITTLE

MINA BIRDS.

WEAVEWHATEVER WE SAY AND DO,

WE'RE ENFORCING.

Andrew: AND THERE ARE

THOSE TIMES WHEN WE DON'T

TAKE THE TIME TO ENJOY

BEING PARENT.

REALLY TAKING THE TIME TO

SAY, I'VE REALLY BEEN

BLESSED HERE WITH A CHILD.

THE JOY AND THE ENTHUSIASM

THEY BRING TO LIFE, AND

INSTEAD OF IT ALMOST BEING

A SIDE THING, WHEN I'M

ABLE TO SPEND TIME WITH MY

CHILDREN, BUT REALLY ENJOY

THE PRECIOUS GIFT THEY

ARE.

Terry: THEY REALLY

ARE.

AND WE CAN LEARN A LOT

FROM THEM.

I FIND THAT A DAY-TO-DAY

THING.

MANY PEOPLE PLAN ON

CELEBRATING DADS WITH

BREAKFAST IN BED OR A NICE

DINNER OUT --

Andrew: BREAKFAST IN

BED?

Terry: A NOVEL

THOUGHT.

BUT FOR SOME, FATHER'S DAY

CAN BE A VERY SOMBER DAY.

MANY MAY NOT HAVE A DAD TO

CELEBRATE ON THIS SPECIFIC

DAY.

HOW DO YOU GO FROM

FATHERLESS TO FATHERFUL?

WELL, TAKE A LOOK.

TODAY IS A VERY SPECIAL

DAY THAT IS COMING.

THAT'S BECAUSE IT IS

FATHER'S DAY.

I'M REALLY GLAD I HAVE

A DAD.

YEAH, HE IS EA IR

IRREPLACEABLE.

OUR STORY IS NOT A

SECRET.

WHEN WE WERE TINY BABIES,

WE DIDN'T HAVE A FATHER.

WE WERE FATHERLESS.

I DON'T REALLY REMEMBER

HIM VERY MUCH.

WE WERE VERY YOUNG, BUT

WE WERE ADOPTED INTO A

LOVING FAMILY.

NOW WE HAVE A FATHER.

MY DAD REALLY LOVES ME.

MY DAD IS NOT A PRETEND

DAD.

HE'S MY REALLY DAD.

AND I'M HIS REALLY

DAUGHTER.

AND I'M HIS REALLY SON.

THERE ARE A LOT OF

PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD WHO

DON'T HAVE A FATHER.

MAYBE THAT'S YOUR

STORY.

OR MAYBE YOU CAN'T EVEN

IMAGINE BEING LOVED BY A

GOOD FATHER.

BUT ON FATHER'S DAY, NO

MATTER YOUR SITUATION,

WE'VE GOT SOME VERY GREAT

NEWS: THERE IS A HEAVENLY

FATHER, AND HE IS A

REALLY, REALLY GOOD GUY.

AND WHEN YOU CHOOSE HIM,

GOD ADOPTS YOU IN HIS

FAMILY.

AND HE BECOMES NOT A

PRETEND DAD AND HE BECOMES

YOU'RE REALLY DAD.

AND YOU BECOME HIS REALLY

CHILD.

WE MAY BE YOUNG, BUT

TWO THINGS WE KNOW FROM

EXPERIENCE: FIRST, THE

LOVE OF A GOOD FATHER IS

SOMETHING TO TREASURE

FOREVER.

AND SECOND, GOD IS A GOOD

FATHER.

AND BEING A CHILD MAKES

FATHER'S DAY EXTRA

SPECIAL.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY,

EVERYONE!

(GIGGLING).

Terry: WOW, POWERFUL.

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF

BABES.

SO OFTEN WE THINK OF

FATHER'S DAY OF

CELEBRATING THE FATHER, IF

WE HAVE ONE IN OUR LIVES.

AND SOMETIMES IT IS A

SURROGATE PERSON WHO HAS

STEPPED INTO THAT ROLE.

BUT THIS ENCOURAGES US TO

THINK OF THE HEAVENLY

FATHER WE HAVE.

A GOOD DAD.

Andrew: ABSOLUTELY.

FATHER'S DAY I'VE BEEN

THINKING ABOUT MY OWN

BIOLOGICAL FATHER OR MY

CHILDREN, BUT TO PAUSE AND

THINK ABOUT THE GRACE GOD

HAS SHOWN ME IN MY LIFE.

MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME EARLY

ON THAT GOD IS YOUR

HEAVENLY FATHER.

AND THAT CHANGED MY LIFE.

Terry: YEAH.

Andrew: AND IT ALSO

CALLS ATTENTION TO THE

FACT THAT AS TERRY AND I

MENTIONED EARLIER, MANY,

MANY PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW

THE LOVE OF A FATHER, AND

CERTAINLY NOT OF OUR

HEAVENLY FATHER GOD.

I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ

LUKE 15, IN WHICH WE SEE

THE WAY OUR HEAVENLY

FATHER GOD LOVES US

THROUGH A WONDERFUL

PARABLE.

ABOUT A GOD WHO IS NEVER

DONE FORGIVING AND

EXTENDING GRACE TO A CHILD

WHO HAS REBELLED AND RUN

AWAY.

AND GOD SAYS, "COME TO ME

WITH OPEN ARMS.

I DEARLY LOVE YOU."

Terry: THIS VIDEO WE

JUST WATCHED HAS HAD OVER

EIGHT MILLION VIEWS.

AND THE MULLEN FAMILY DID

ADOPT LUK LUCA, A YOUNG BOY.

YOU CAN SEARCH FOR JOEL

AND SARA MULLEN,

M-U-L-L-E-N.

> WELL, COMING UP, SEE

HOW A CARTOON BROUGHT THIS

FAMILY CLOSER TOGETHER.

LEARNING VALUES, AND

IT'S ENTERTAINING FOR

THEM.

USUALLY WE'LL GATHER

ALL TOGETHER HERE AND

WATCH IT.

Terry: THAT'S NEXT,

WHEN WE COME BACK.

Terry: 6-YEAR-OLD

NATE IS A HUGE FAN OF

"SUPERBOOK," ALONG WITH

HIS LITTLE SISTER, AND

EVEN THEIR DAD, KYLE.

"SUPERBOOK" HAS BROUGHT

THE FAMILY CLOSER

TOGETHER.

TAKE A LOOK.

Reporter: WHEN THE

LATEST EPISODE OF

"SUPERBOOK" ARRIVES IN THE

MAIL, THE WHOLE SPENCER

FAMILY GETS EXCITED.

MY SON WILL START

JUMPING UP AND DOWN AND

HE'LL LOOK AT THE COVER,

AND I'LL OPEN IT UP AND

HE'LL WANT ME TO PUT IT

IN.

USUALLY WE'LL GATHER ALL

TOGETHER HERE AND WATCH

IT.

Reporter: THEY HAVE

THE ENTIRE "SUPERBOOK"

COLLECTION.

NATE'S DAD, KYLE, LOVES

WHAT "SUPERBOOK" TEACHES

THE KIDS ABOUT THE BIBLE.

THEY'RE LEARNING A LOT,

AND THEY'RE GRASPING IT AT

A FASTER RATE THAN I DO

WHEN I WAS GROWING UP.

Reporter: AND HE

APPRECIATES THEY'RE

LEARNING BIBLICAL VALUES.

MY SON IN PARTICULAR IS

VERY KIND-HEARTED.

AND I THINK HE GETS A LOT

OF THOSE VALUES BY

WATCHING THE SHOW.

HE SEES HOW THE BROTHER

AND SISTER INTERACTS, AND

HE INTERACTS WITH HIS

SISTER THAT WAY.

Reporter: AND

"SUPERBOOK" EVEN HAS

3-YEAR-OLD JULIANNA'S

ATTENTION.

THE 3-YEAR-OLD IS

ACTUALLY STARTING TO SIT

DOWN AND WATCH IT MORE AS

A STORY NOW.

IF A CERTAIN SCENE COMES

UP THAT ENTERTAINS HER,

SHE'LL PUT HER HANDS UP

AND SCREAM AT THE SCREEN

AT CERTAIN POINTS

THROUGHOUT IT, OR HUM THE

MELODY OF THE MUSIC IN IT.

Reporter: WHAT MAKES

IT EVEN MORE SPECIAL FOR

KYLE IS THAT IT BRINGS THE

KIDS TOGETHER.

I'M THANKFUL FOR THE

CREATORS AND THE PRODUCERS

BEHIND THE SHOW.

THEY CREATED SOMETHING

THAT HELPS BUILD A

STRONGER RELATIONSHIP WITH

US.

IT IS SOMETHING THEY CAN

TAKE WITH THEM AND THEY

CAN GROW UP WITH AND GROW

UP ON.

THEY'RE LEARNING VALUES,

AND IT IS ENTERTAINING FOR

THEM.

Terry: WELL, THE

SPENCER FAMILY HAS THE

ENTIRE "SUPERBOOK"

COLLECTION, AND YOU CAN,

TOO.

"SUPERBOOK" IS A GREAT WAY

TO BOND WITH YOUR FAMILY

AND TO REACH THE NEXT

GENERATION WITH THE

MESSAGE OF GOD'S LOVE.

IT IS CURRENTLY IN 38

LANGUAGES, AND IT IS GOING

TO SOON BE IN 50 DIFFERENT

LANGUAGES.

ANDREW?

Andrew: THANK YOU,

TERRY.

WELL, STILL TO COME, A

FATHER DISCOVERS HIS SON

HAS RUN AWAY.

I BEGAN TO HAVE CHEST

PAINS.

MY HEART WAS POUNDING SO

HARD.

IT WAS THE WORST MOMENT OF

MY LIFE.

Andrew: SEE WHAT

BROUGHT HIS SON HOME.

THAT'S RIGHT AFTER THIS.

Andrew: DAVE MOORE

WAS A TOUGH DAD, STILL, HE

PANICKED WHEN HIS SON RAN

AWAY FROM HOME.

DAVE BEGAN A TRAGIC SEARCH

FOR HIM, TRAVELLING

HUNDREDS OF MILES.

HE ANYON EVEN PLANNED ON HIRING

A PSYCHIC.

INSTEAD, HE MADE A BARGAIN

WITH GOD TO GET HIS SON

BACK.

> I NOTICED THIS JELL-O YELLOW

PIECE OF PAPER ON HIS BED.

Reporter: WITHOUT A

WARNING, DAVE AND

NORENDA'S SON DISAPPEARED,

LEAVING ONLY A NOTE.

IT WENT ON TO SAY HOW

HE WAS FLUNKING OUT OF

COLLEGE AND HE COULDN'T

FACE US WITH THIS FAILURE.

I BEGAN HAVING CHEST

PAINS.

IT WAS THE WORST MOMENT OF

MY LIFE.

Reporter: THE NOTE

SAID HE LEFT HIS CAR AT A

GREYHOUND BUS STATION IN

AANNARBOR, MICHIGAN.

I YELLED AT NORENDA TO

GRAB HER PURSE AND I

GRABBED MY KEYS AND WE

JUST TRIED TO GET THAT AS

FAST AS I COULD GET THERE.

Andrew: THEY FOUND

THEITHE CAR, BUT THEIR SON WAS

NOWHERE IN SIGHT, AND THE

BUS STATION WAS CLOSED.

WE KNEW HE HAD GOTTEN

ON A BUS AND WHEREVER HE

GOT OFF, HE WOULD BE

HOMELESS.

I WAS AFRAID SOMEONE

WOULD HURT HIM AND WE

WOULD NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN.

Reporter: THEY CALLED

HIS GIRLFRIEND, WHO SAID

SHE DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS

LEAVING, BUT HE HAD

MENTIONED DAYTON, OHIO.

I DECIDED IF HE HAD

GONE TO DAYTON, THAT'S

WHERE I HAD TO GO.

EVERY THOUGHT OF HOW WILL

I FIND HIM, WHAT WILL I DO

WHEN I GET THERE.

ANGER AT HIM, BUT MORE

ANGER AT MYSELF.

AT TIMES SWINGING AND

HITTING THE DASHBOARD WITH

MY FISTS.

IT WAS TERRIBLE.

I WAS FALLING APART.

Reporter: ON THE

FOUR-HOUR DRIVE, DAVE

THOUGHT ABOUT HOW HIS

ANGER AND DISCIPLINE HAD

DRIVEN A WEDGE BETWEEN HIM

AND HIS SON.

AND HE BLAMED HIMSELF FOR

HIM LEAVING.

MY FEAR WAS I WOULD

NEVER SEE MY SON AGAIN,

AND IT WAS ALL MY FAULT.

I WAS MORE OF A MY WAY OR

THE HIGHWAY KIND OF A

PARENT.

I BEGAN TO THINK, HAD I

PUSHED HIM TOO HARD?

YOU HAVE TO DO WELL, YOU

HAVE TO EXCEL.

Reporter: ONCE IN

DAYTON, DAVE STOPPED AT A

LOCAL DINER TO EAT AND

SHARED HIS STORY WITH A

POLICE OFFICER THERE.

AND THEN A STRANGER

APPROACHED HIM.

HE SAID, I'M SORRY I

OVERHEARD YOUR

CONVERSATION.

CAN I PRAY FOR YOU.

AND I SAID, PLEASE DO.

AND HE PRAYED THIS AMAZING

PRAYER OVER ME AND MY SON,

THAT GOD WOULD MOVE

MOUNTAINS TO BRING MY SON

HOME SAFELY.

Reporter: DAVE WASN'T

A CHRISTIAN, BUT HE

WELCOMED THE STRANGER'S

PRAYER, ESPECIALLY IF GOD

COULD HELP FIND HIS SON.

AFTERWARDS HE WENT TO THE

BUS STATION IN DAYTON.

I TOLD HIM MY SON'S

NAME AND THE CITY HE

BOUGHT THE TICKET AT.

AND I FOUND OUT THAT MY

SON'S TICKET WAS PURCHASED

TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA, WHICH

WAS NOW AN EIGHT-HOUR

DRIVE FROM WHERE I HAD

BEEN.

Reporter: HE CALLED A

FRIEND WHO MADE THE

EIGHT-HOUR TRIP WITH HIM,

BUT AFTER SEARCHING, THEY

GAVE UP.

WE DECIDED THIS IS

NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE.

AND WE HEADED BACK TO

MICHIGAN.

Reporter: FOUR DAYS

PASSED, AND STILL NO WORD

FROM THEIR SON.

DAVE HUNG UP POSTERS AT

HIS SCHOOL, AND NORENDA

CHECKED HIS COMPUTER.

I THOUGHT, WHO WOULD HE

BE TALKING TO?

BUT NOBODY KNEW NOTHING.

WE ALL FELT HELPLESS.

Reporter: DAVE EVEN

PLANNED TO CONSULT A

PSYCHIC, BUT INSTEAD HE

MADE ONE MORE CALL TO A

CHURCH IN ATLANTA.

A LADY NAMED PAIGE

ANSWERED THE PHONE.

THIS LADY HAD TOUCHED ME

SO DEEPLY, THIS CHRISTIAN

WOMAN WHO DIDN'T EVEN KNOW

ME.

I LOOKED IN FRIEW FRONT OF ME,

SITTING ON THE TABLE,

THERE WAS A BIBLE.

I HELD IT UP TO GOD.

I SAID, GOD, I WANT TO BE

JUST LIKE THIS LADY.

I ALWAYS WANT TO BE PART

OF THE SOLUTION, NEVER

PART OF THE PROBLEM AGAIN.

I SAID, IF YOU'LL SAVE MY

SON, I'LL SERVE YOU FOR

THE REST OF MY LIFE.

Reporter: WITHIN

MINUTES AFTER DAVE SAID

THAT PRAYER, THE PHONE

RANG.

HIS SON WAS BACK IN TOWN.

I CRIED OUT TO GOD, AND

WHEN HE ANSWERED THAT

PRAYER, I FELL ON THE

GROUND ON MY KNEES.

I THREW MY HANDS IN THE

AIR AND BEGAN TO THANK

GOD.

THERE REALLY WEREN'T

ANY WORDS.

EVERYONE WAS JUST CRYING.

IT IS A MIRACLE, MY

SON, WHO WAS LOST, IS

FOUND.

IT COMPLETELY CHANGED MY

LIFE.

IT WAS LIKE FROM WALKING

IN THE DARK TO WALKING IN

THE LIGHT.

Reporter: THAT

FOLLOWING SUNDAY HE AND

NORENDA WENT TO CHURCH.

AS SOON AS HE FINISHED

HIS SERMON AND MADE AN

ALTER CALL, I LITERALLY

JUMPED OUT OF MY SEAT AND

WENT TO THE ALTER.

I CRIED OUT TO GOD TO

THANK HIM FOR WHAT HE HAD

DONE.

NOT ONLY FOR BRINGING MY

SON HOME SAFE BUCIALGHTS

WHABUT WHAT HEDID IN MY LIFE: HE CHANGED

ME.

Reporter: AND NORENDA

REDEDICATED HER LIFE TO

GOD, AND DURING AN EASTER,

THEIR SON GAVE HIS LIFE TO

CHRIST.

MY SON AND MY WIFE AND

I AND EVEN MY TWO

STEPSONS, AND HE GAVE ME A

NEW HEART, HOW I BECAME A

NEW MAN.

AND BECAUSE I WAS

SEARCHING FOR MY SON, I

NEVER REALIZED THAT GOD

WAS ALWAYS SEARCHING FOR

ME.

Andrew: IT IS A STORY

OF PURSUIT, ISN'T IT?

OF A HEARTBROKEN,

CONCERNED FATHER,

SEARCHING FOR HIS SON.

AND IT RESONATES WITH

HUMANITY.

AND IT'S HUMANITY'S STORY

AND OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH

GOD, AND GOD'S PURSUIT OF

US, TO SHOW US HIS

RESCUING LOVE.

AND IT GOES DOWN EVEN

DEEPER TO PERHAPS YOUR

STORY OR MY STORY.

I CAN IDENTIFY WITH THAT

AND THE TIMES I HID FROM

GOD, MY HEAVENLY FATHER,

OUT OF SHAME, FEELING I

WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH.

AND I'M SO THANKFUL TO

KNOW OVER AND OVER AND

OVER AGAIN THAT GOD DOES

NOT ABANDON US.

HIS PURSUIT IS EVEN MORE

INTENSE AND LOVING THAN

THAT FATHER AND SON WE

JUST SAW.

I THINK SOMETIMES WE HEAR

THE MESSAGE AND WE SAY,

OKAY, I HAVE HEARD GOD

LOVES ME.

BUT IT IS MORE THAN THAT.

HE DOESN'T JUST WAIT FOR

US TO POSSIBLY MAKE A

DECISION TO ENTER INTO A

RELATIONSHIP OF OBEDIENCE

AND SALVATION WITH HIM.

HE PURSUES.

HE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR OF

OUR HEART.

HE CREATES CIRCUMSTANCES

THAT WILL RECOGNIZE HIS

LOVE AND HIS POWER.

HE BRINGS PEOPLE INTO OUR

LIFE TO REVEAL HIS LOVE

FOR US.

AND TODAY, IF YOU'VE SEEN

THAT STORY, I HOPE YOU'LL

CONSIDER THE FACT THAT GOD

IS PURSUING YOU.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE

DONE.

GOD KNOWS.

AND IT MAY HAVE CREATED A

BAD CIRCUMSTANCE FOR YOU

IN YOUR LIFE, BUT IT

DOESN'T MATTER.

HE REJOICES IN PICKING UP

THE BROKEN, SHATTERED

PIECES OF OUR LIFE AND

RESTORING THEM IT'S A

WONDERFUL JOURNEY.

IF YOU'D LIKE SOMEONE TO

PRAY FOR YOU, PLEASE GIVE

US A CALL AT

1-888-777-1999.

ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS, I

WANT TO REALLY KNOW WHAT

IT IS LIKE TO HAVE GOD IN

MY LIFE.

WOULD YOU PRAY FOR ME?

SHOW ME HOW TO BE OBEDIENT

TO HIM AND LEAD ME IN A

PRAYER OF SALVATION, TO

KNOW HIM AS SAVIOR.

WE LEAVE YOU WITH PROVERBS

20: "THE RIGHTEOUS MAN

WALKS IN HIS INTEGRITY,

AND HIS CHILDREN ARE

BLESSED AFTER HIM."

FOR TERRY MEEUWSEN, I'M

ANDREW KNOX, AND WE WILL

SEE YOU NEXT
