A man born without arms or legs climbs the tallest mountain in Africa. Read Transcript

Andrew: A MAN WITH NO

ARMS OR LEGS SETS OUT ON A

MISSION, TO CLIMB THE

HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN

AFRICA.

THEY WERE LIKE, YOU'RE

CRAZY.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOU'RE

GOING TO CLIMB MOUNT

KILIMANJARO.

AND I WAS, LIKE, I DON'T

KNOW, BUT WE'LL FIGURE IT

OUT.

Andrew: SEE HOW HE

DID JUST THAT ON TODAY'S

"700 CLUB INTERACTIVE."

HI, AND WELCOME TO "700

CLUB INTERACTIVE."

OUR STORY ABOUT THE EPIC

CLIMB IS COMING UP IN A

FEW MINUTES.

SET YOUR D.V.R.s TO

RECORD TODAY'S SHOW.

BUT, FIRST, HE IS BACK.

"STUDIO 5's" EFREM

GRAHAM IS HERE TO BRING US

THE LATEST IN

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS,

STARTING WITH TODAY'S TOP

FIVE.

TAKE A LOOK.

Efrem: AT NUMBER

FIVE: QUARTERBACK ROBERT

GRIFFITHS THE THIRD IS

BACK IN THE GAME IN

CLEVELAND, AND HE IS

GRATEFUL.

ALL YOU CAN DO IS GO

OUT HERE AND SHOW THE

TALENT THAT GOD BLESSED

YOU WITH.

Efrem: HE WAS A

SHINING STAR FOR THE

REDSKINS IN HIS ROOKIE

SEASON, BUT SAT ON THE

BENCH ALL OF LAST SEASON

AND LOST HIS JOB TO KIRK

COUSINS.

IT IS TRULY A BLESSING

TO BE ABLE TO PLAY THIS

GAME.

Efrem: AT NUMBER

FOUR: THERE WAS THE A.L.S.

ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE, AND

THE 22 PUSHUP CHALLENGE TO

BRING ATTENTION TO THE 22

VETERANS WHO COMMIT

SUICIDE EVERY DAY.

THEY LENT THEIR MUSCLES

TO THE CAUSE.

DOP AND GIV DROP AND GIVE ME 22.

Efrem: AND NOW THERE

IS...

THE "SO GONE"

CHALLENGE.

IT STARTS OUT WITH A

CHANCE TO RAP.

Efrem: AND THIS

CHALLENGE IS TAKING ON A

GOSPEL TWIST.

* BY THE TIME IT HITS THE

FACE OF THE DEVIL *

* I DON'T HAVE TO WONDER

IF JESUS LOVES ME.

ALL HE WANTS IS TO OPEN UP

OUR HEARTS *

Efrem: THAT BRINGS US

TO NUMBER THREE:

*

Efrem: CHRISTIAN

ROCKERS FOR KING AND

COUNTRY.

AND GOSPEL RECORDING STAR

TY TRIBETT WILL HOST THIS

YEAR'S DOVE AWARDS.

IT COULD BE A BIG NIGHT

FOR CHRISTIAN SINGER AND

SONGWRITER LAUREN DAGEL.

SHE HAS SIX NOMINATIONS,

INCLUDING ARTIST OF THE

YEAR.

> COMING IN NOW AT

NUMBER TWO:

I CARE ABOUT MY HEALTH.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE

THIS.

I STARTED PRAYING.

Efrem: THIS

93-YEAR-OLD DETROIT WOMAN

IS ON A MISSION TO THANK

THE MAN WHO STOPPED TO

HELP HER WHEN HER CAR

STALLED ON THE INTERSTATE.

THE BLACK MAN KEPT SAYING

TO HER, I'M NOT HERE TO

HURT YOU; I'M HERE TO HELP

YOU.

AND IN TODAY'S RACIAL

CLIMATE, THOSE WORDS STUCK

WITH HER.

I THINK IT IS SO

UNFAIR.

WE'RE ALL CREATED EQUALLY.

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE.

NONE.

IS THAT WHY HE FELT THE

NEED TO TELL ME THAT HE

WAS HERE TO HELP?

ALICE PUT HER THOUGHTS

IN WRITING, SENDING A

LETTER TO THE OAKLAND

PRESS.

SHE HOPES IT GETS TO THE

MAN WHO'S NAME SHE CAN'T

REMEMBER.

SHE JUST WANTS TO SAY

THANK YOU.

I'D GIVE HIM A HUG.

Efrem: AND AT NUMBER

ONE, THE INCREDIBLE STORY

OF BRANDON IS NOW IN THE

FILM "GREATER."

BRANDON HAS BEEN NAMED

FIRST TEAM ALL AMERICAN.

Efrem: NEIL McDUNNA

PLAYS BRANDON'S BROTHER.

HOW FAMILIAR WERE YOU WITH

THE STORY?

I HAD HEARD OF THE

STORY.

WE WERE SITTING IN

TRAFFIC, MY WIFE AND I,

AND SHE SAID, HONEY, IT IS

AN E-MAIL ABOUT BRANDON.

I SAID, THE FOOTBALL

PLAYER?

YEAH, AND SHE SAID

THERE IS A SCRIPT HERE.

AND I SAID, WELL, WE'RE

STUCK IN TRAFFIC, SO START

RAEING.

READING.

BY PAGE THREE, WE WERE

BALLING.

Andrew: EFREM GRAHAM

JOINS YOU NOW.

GREAT SHIRT.

Efrem: THANK YOU.

Andrew: TELL US ABOUT

YOUR EXPERIENCE COVERING

THE FILM?

Efrem: I ACTUALLY

COVERED THE FILM MORE THAN

IT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE

RELEASED.

WE WERE RUNNING

COMMERCIALS FOR IT, AND

THEN IT SAW A DELAY.

MAINLY BECAUSE IT COULD

NOT GET IN AS MANY THEATER

SCREENS AS IT COULD.

IT SCREENED WELL, BUT THEY

WANTED A WIDER RELEASE.

THIS IS THE GREATEST

WALK-ON STORY EVER.

HE IS A WALK-ON AND

BECOMES AN ALL-AMERICAN.

AND HIS FAITH, HIS MOM'S

FAITH, BEAUTIFUL.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE STORY,

IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH

IT, HAS A TRAGIC END.

LITERALLY HE GETS DRAFTED

AND DIES IN A CAR ACCIDENT

ON HIS WAY HOME TO GO TO

CHURCH WITH HIS MOTHER.

11 DAYS BEFORE HE WAS TO

START.

Andrew: THAT IS NOT

NECESSARILY A SPOILER

BECAUSE PEOPLE KNOW THIS

STORY.

SO WHEN WILL IT BE

RELEASED?

Efrem: THIS WILL BE

RELEASED ON FRIDAY IN

THEATERS ALL ACROSS THE

COUNTRY.

NEIL McDUNNA, WHO MANY

ARE FAMILIAR WITH FROM

"ARROW," AND A LOT OF

FILMS, AND HE PLAYS MARTY,

ESSENTIALLY THE BROTHER.

AND WE WATCH A

TRANSFORMATION IN HIM,

WATCHING HIS BROTHER AND

HIS MOTHER DEAL WITH

TRAGEDY.

IT ANSWERS THAT AGE-OLD

QUESTION: WHY DO BAD

THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD

PEOPLE?

Andrew: WHAT IS THIS

"SO GONE" CHALLENGE?

I HAVE YET TO RELEASE MY

VIDEO.

Efrem: I HAVE YET TO

RELEASE MINE, TOO.

I THOUGHT WE MIGHT TRY

SOMETHING TOGETHER HERE.

IT IS A POPULAR MONICA

SONG, AND THIS SONG OR

CHALLENGE, FROM CHANCE THE

RAPPER, HAS TAKEN ON IN

CARNATIONS.

YOU JUST SAW SO OF THEM.

MANY PEOPLE DOING GOSPEL

MUSIC AS A RESULT.

BUT THERE IS ALSO A

ROMANTIC TWIST TO ONE OF

THEM.

Andrew: WHAT THE

CHALLENGE FOR?

Efrem: FOR YOU TO

CREATE YOUR OWN RAP BASED

ON THE MONICA SONG.

YOU NAME IT, FROM KEVIN

HART, TO FOOTBALL PLAYERS

AND BASKETBALL PLAYERS TO

EVERYDAY JOES POSTING

THEIR VIDEOS.

THERE ARE TWO MILLION NOW

ON TWITTER NOW.

THERE IS A ROMANTIC TWIST

TO THIS ONE THAT I WANT

YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT.

* I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND

* I WASHED AWAY MY FEARS

* POSTED IT IN THE SAND

* EWAN I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU

TO GOD *

* GOD SAID, YOU'RE MISSING

ONE THING *

* SO I HAD TO GET A

REASON *

Efrem: HIS LAST LINE

WAS, I HAD A TALK WITH

GOD, AND YOU'RE MISSING

ONE THING, AND THAT'S WHY

I'M GIVING YOU A RING.

Andrew: AND SHE SAID

YES.

Efrem: WEDDING TO

COME, AND POSSIBLY A VIDEO

AS WELL.

Andrew: AND YOU

COVERED THIS STORY OF THE

93-YEAR-OLD WOMAN LOOKING

FOR HER GOOD SAMARITAN.

AND THAT TOUCHED ALIT A LOT OF

HEARTS.

Efrem: IT HAS,

INDEED.

UNFOLDED RIGHT THERE IN

DETROIT.

SHE LITERALLY -- WHEN HER

CAR STALLED, SHE GETS OUT

AND SHE REALIZED THAT THE

REPAIR IT NEEDS, SHE CAN'T

HANDLE.

SHE PRAYS, GOD HELP ME.

AND A GENTLEMAN LITERALLY

COMES OVER.

AND HE IS SO CONDITIONED

THAT HE KNOWS THAT IN THIS

RACIAL CLIMATE, THIS BEING

AN OLDER WHITE WOMAN, SHE

COULD POSSIBLY BE AFRAID

OF HIM.

AND SHE SAYS SHE WASN'T.

SHE DIDN'T EVEN SEE THAT.

IT WASN'T UNTIL SHE GOT

BACK HOME AND THOUGHT

ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN

THE WORLD, OH, MAYBE

THAT'S WHAT HE KEPT

SAYING, I'M NOT HERE TO

HURT YOU.

I'M HERE TO HELP YOU.

AND SHE FELT BAD BECAUSE

HE HAD TO APOLOGIZE FOR

WANTING TO HELP.

Andrew: AND HIGH

HOPES IN CLEVELAND WHILE

REDSKINS FANS IN

WASHINGTON MAY BE A BIT

CYNICAL, BUT HE IS

OPTMISTIC FOR THE SEASON.

Efrem: HE IS

OPTMISTIC FOR THE SEASON.

TO WATCH SOMEONE LITERALLY

LOSE THE JOB THAT THEY

LOVED AND ADORED, AND TO

SUFFER AND ENDURE THAT

YEAR THE WAY HE DID, IT IS

NICE TO SEE THAT HIS HEART

STILL LOVES THE GAME, AND

HE STILL GIVES ALL CREDIT

TO GOD FOR THE TALENTS

THAT HE HAS.

AND HE IS GOING TO GIVE IT

ANOTHER SHOT.

HE IS BLESSED TO HAVE THE

OPPORTUNITY, AND IT IS

NICE TO SEE HE REALIZES

I'M BLESSED.

HE SAID THIS IS A CHILD'S

GAME AND WE'RE ALL BLESSED

TO PLAY IT AND TO GET PAID

TO DO IT.

AND HE THOUGHT, LEBRON

COULD DO IT IN CLEVELAND,

MAYBE HE COULD DO IT.

Andrew: AND THANK YOU

FOR JOINING US, EFREM.

Efrem: MY PLEASURE.

Andrew: YOU CAN WATCH

"STUDIO 5" ON ROKU, APPLE

TV, OR GO TO

CBNNEWS.COM/cbn.com..

> COMING UP, HE HAS

IMPECCABLE HANDWRITING,

AND HE IS ALSO A GEORGIA

STATE WRESTLING CHAMPION.

AND HE DOES ALL OF THIS

WITH ARMS THAT END AT HIS

ELBOWS, AND LEGS THAT END

AT HIS KNEES.

SO HOW DOES HE DO IT?

WITH NO EXCUSES, AS YOU'LL

FIND OUT.

THAT'S COMING UP.

Andrew: YOU'RE ABOUT

TO MEET A MAN WHO LIVES BY

THE MOTTO, "NO EXCUSES,"

EVEN THOUGH HE COULD MAKE

PLENTY OF THEM.

HIS NAME IS KYLE MAYNARD,

AND HE WAS BORN WITH NO

ARMS AND NO LEGS.

HE HAS NEVER BEEN ONE TO

BACK DOWN FROM A

CHALLENGE, AND THAT

ATTITUDE PROPELLED HIM ALL

THE WAY TO THE TOP OF

MOUNT KIL KILIMANJARO.

WES BRINGS US HIS

INSPIRING STORY.

Reporter: KYLE

MAYNARD IS TOUGH, REAL

TOUGH.

HE IS A CHAMPION WRESTLER.

HE STUDIED BRAZILIAN

JIU-JITSU.

AND HE CAN BENCH

420 POUNDS.

AND EVERY DAY HE CONQUERS

THE IMPOSSIBLE.

EMERSON SAID, "DO NOT

GO WHERE THE PATH MAY

LEAD.

GO INSTEAD WHERE THERE IS

NO PATH AND LEAVE A

TRAIL."

Reporter: KYLE WAS

BORN WITHOUT ARMS OR LEGS.

THE RESULT OF A RARE

CONDITION KNOWN AS

CONGENITAL AMPUTATION.

MY PARENTS HAD A NORMAL

PREGNANCY.

THEY WENT AND SAW THE

ULTRASOUNDS, AND THE

DOCTOR SAW THERE WAS

REALLY NOTHING OUT OF THE

ORDINARY.

SO THEY REALLY HAD NO IDEA

THAT ANYTHING WAS GOING TO

HAPPEN, THAT I WOULD BE

BORN DIFFERENT.

Reporter: NORMALLY,

CONGENITAL AMPUTATION ONLY

AFFECTS A FINGER OR A TOE.

IN THIS CASE, KYLE WAS

LEFT WITH NO LIMBS.

HIS PARENTS WERE LEFT WITH

QUESTIONS ON HOW TO RAISE

THEIR CHILD.

WHAT REALLY BLOWS ME

AWAY ARE THE DECISIONS

THAT MY MOM AND DAD MADE.

THEY HAD TO MAKE WHEN THEY

WERE SUPER YOUNG.

MY MOM WAS MORE OF THE

NURTURING TYPE, AND

WANTING TO HELP ME WITH

STUFF AND DIDN'T WANT TO

SEE ME STRUGGLE.

MY DAD REALIZED BY HELPING

ME DO EVERYTHING WASN'T

GOING TO BE THE BEST

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

SAY, LIKE, IN EARNING HOW

TO EAT -- HE HAS TO FIGURE

OUT HOW TO EAT ON HIS OWN

OR STARVE.

Reporter: AS YOU CAN

IMAGINE, IT WASN'T EASY,

BUT KYLE LEARNED THE

BASICS.

AND SOON HE WASN'T JUST

ABLE TO DO THE THINGS

OTHERS COULD DO.

HE WAS DOING THEM BETTER.

MY MOM TELLS THE STORY

ABOUT WHEN I GOT IN THE

CLOSET AND RIPPED ALL OF

THE CLOTHES OFF THE RAC.

RACK.

SHE WAS PARTIALLY TICKED

OFF, AND PARTIALLY SHE

THOUGHT, COOL, YOU DID

THAT.

Reporter: BY THE TIME

HE REACHED MIDDLE SCHOOL,

KYLE WANTED TO TAKE IT UP

A NOTCH.

ONE DAY HE TOLD HIS NOM HE

WANTED TO GO OUT FOR THE

FOOTBALL TEAM.

HIS MOM CALLED THE COACH

AND THE COACH SAID SURE.

I WAS THE NOSE GUARD

PLAYING IN THE MIDDLE.

I REMEMBER THE VERY FIRST

FOOTBALL GAMES I PLAYED

IN, ONE OF THE FIRST PLAYS

THEY RAN WAS COMING RIGHT

UP THE MIDDLE.

I REMEMBER THAT MOMENT,

AND MY WAY OF TACKLING

PEOPLE WAS TAKING MY

HELMET AND SMASHING IT

INTO THEIR LEGS AS HARD AS

I COULD.

I HAD FOUND

AN 11-YEAR-OLD'S PURPOSE

IN LIFE.

Reporter: AT THE

TIME, KYLE WAS JUST A

FIFTH GRADE KID WHO HAD TO

WORK TWICE AS HARD TO GET

HALF AS FAR.

HIS PARENTS, WHO WERE

CHRISTIANS, ASSURED HIM

THERE WAS A GRAND PLAN FOR

HIS LIFE.

NOW KYLE UNDERSTOOD.

HIS GOAL: SEE THE

IMPOSSIBLE, BEAT THE

IMPOSSIBLE.

AND I DEFINITELY WAS AT

DISPAIR AT 10 YEARS OLD,

AND REALLY HAD A LOT OF

FEAR OVER WHAT THE FUTURE

WAS GOING TO BE.

I WAS DEFINITELY AT A

POINT WHERE I LOST A LOT

OF HOPE.

I DIDN'T SEE A REASON EVEN

TO GO ON.

AND I REALLY THINK THAT

MAKING MY FIRST TACKLE IN

FOOTBALL MIGHT HAVE BEEN

WHAT NEARLY SAVED MY LIFE.

Reporter: THAT MOMENT

FUELED A COMPETITIVE

NATURE INSIDE KYLE.

SO AFTER FOOTBALL, HE TOOK

UP WRESTLING.

AND SOON HE WAS WINNING

MATCHES AND IT WASN'T

BEFORE THE NO--LEGGED MAN

BECAME A MEDIA SENSATION.

HE WROTE A BOOK CALLED "NO

EXCUSES," AND HE ALSO

BECAME A POPULAR

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER.

HE IS ONE OF THE MOST

INSPIRING YOUNG MEN YOU

WILL EVER HEAR ABOUT.

Pat: HE IS STRONG,

TOO, I MIGHT ADD.

Reporter: KYLE

MAYNARD IS TOUGH.

HE HAS TO BE.

HE HAS NO ARMS OR LEGS,

BUT HE MAKES UP FOR THAT

WITH AN AD DOOMINABLE SPIRIT.

PART OF CHRIST'S

MESSAGE WAS TEACHING

OTHERS SO THEY COULD DO

IT.

AND HOW THEY COULD MOVE

THE MOUNTAIN FROM HERE TO

HERE WITH FAITH.

AND I THOUGHT, WHAT IS

THAT THE LITERAL TRUTH.

WE'RE SO QUICK TO GO AND

DISMISS THE FACT THAT

WE'RE ABLE TO GO AND DO

THESE AMAZING THINGS, TOO.

I THINK BEING CONNECTED TO

SOMETHING BIGGER THAN

OURSELVES IS THE ONLY WAY

TO REACH THAT PLACE.

Reporter: NORMALLY

THIS IS WHERE A STORY

ENDS.

YOU HAVE YOUR HERO FACE

THE GREAT OBSTACLE, OVER

COMES IT, AND LIVES

HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

BUT IN KYLE'S CASE, THIS

IS WHERE HIS STORY REALLY

BEGINS.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, KYLE

WENT ON THE SPEAKERING

CIRCUIT.

BUT BEFORE LONG, HE

CONSIDERED DOING SOMETHING

HE NEVER HAD REALLY DONE

BEFORE, QUILT.

>QUIT.

I PUT ON 20, 30 POUNDS,

AND PEOPLE WOULD SAY TO ME

AFTER A SPEECH THAT MY

STORY WAS INSPIRING, AND I

KNOW THEIR INTENT WAS IT

WOULD MAKE ME FEEL GOOD,

BUT A LOT OF TIMES IT

DIDN'T.

IT JUST MADE ME FEEL

DIFFERENT.

Reporter: DURING THIS

TIME, KYLE CAME UP WITH A

NICKNAME FOR HIMSELF: THE

DEPRESSED MOTIVATIONAL

SPEAKER.

NIC I WOULD BE ALONE.

I WAS 19 YEARS OLD AND 20

YEARS OLD, AND SPEAKING TO

SENATORS AND PRESIDENTS,

AND IT WAS, LIKE, WHOM AM

I TO GO IN AND TELL YOU

HOW TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS?

I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I WAS

ACTUALLY LIVING THE

MESSAGE I WAS TALKING

ABOUT.

Reporter: AND THEN A

TURNING POINT.

A CHANCE MEETING AT AN

AIRPORT WITH TWO SOLDIERS

WHO SAID THEY SAW KYLE ON

TV AND WERE INSPIRED BY

HIS LIFE.

I THINK THAT MADE A

HUGE DIFFERENCE IN

LEARNING TO ACCEPT THAT

AND EMBRACE AND WANTING

THAT ANYTHING I DO, PUT MY

FEET IN AND BE THE BEST I

CAN BE.

I'M COMPETITIVE.

THAT WAS A BIG

GAME-CHANGER FOR ME.

Reporter: IN 2011,

KYLE MET A GOLD-STAR

MOTHER.

HER SON, CO CORY JOHNSON HAD

BEEN KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

EARLIER THAT YEAR.

SHE TOLD KYLE THAT HER SON

ALWAYS WANTED TO TRAVEL

AND CLIMB MOUNT

KILIMANJARO.

AND SOON HE HAD A NEW

CHALLENGE.

I TOLD MY FRIEND THAT

NIGHT THAT I'M GOING TO

CLIMB MOUNT KILIMANJARO.

AND SHE SAID, YOU'RE

CRAZY.

HOW YOU GOING TO DO THAT?

AND I WAS, LIKE, I DON'T

KNOW, BUT WE'LL FIGURE IT

OUT.

Reporter: YOU PASS

ECOLOGICAL ZONES BEFORE

GETTING TO THE SUMMIT.

TEMPERATURES RANGE FROM

80 AT THE BASE AND -15

AT THE TOP.

KYLE WOULDN'T BACK DOWN.

I'VE GOT SOME REALLY

AMAZING PEOPLE IN MY LIFE

THAT I'VE BEEN SO

FORTUNATE TO HAVE.

INSTEAD OF THEM TELLING

ME, YOU'RE CRAZY, YOU'RE

NOT GOING TO GO DO IT,

MOST OF THEM ARE LIKE,

WOW, THAT'S COOL.

HOW CAN I HELP?

AND I HAVE FRIENDS WHO

DUCT TAPED THINGS ON MY

ARMS AND LEGS.

WE HAD TO COME UP WITH A

WHOLE NEW SYSTEM.

Reporter: NOW, THERE

WERE RISKS TO THE CLIMBS.

THE HIGHER YOU GO, THE

LESS OXYGEN THERE IS TO

BREATHE.

THE COLDER IT GETS, THE

GREATER THE RISK FOR

FROSTBITE, NOT TO MENTION

THE DUST OR THE DRY ROCKS.

KYLE WAS GOING TO DEAL

WITH THIS FOR 30 MILES

CRAWLING EVERY INCH OF THE

WAY.

A LOT OF TIMES, MY FACE

IS IN THE DIRT, THREE

INCHES OFF OF THE GROUND.

NOBODY TOLD ME I COULDN'T

CRAWL.

THE SWELLING IN MY ARMS

WAS REALLY INTENSE.

THERE WAS THIS TOTAL

DICHOTOMY GOING ON OF SOME

MOMENTS OF INTENSE

SUFFERING, AND, LIKE, WHY

AM I HERE?

WHY DID I DO THIS?

AND THERE WERE MOMENTS OF,

WOW, THIS IS REALLY COOL.

Reporter: AFTER A

GRUELING JOURNEY, KYLE WAS

NEAR THE TOP.

BUT THE IMPORTANT THING

WASN'T JUST HOW CLOSE HE

WAS TO THE SUMMIT.

IT WAS HOW FAR HE HAD

ALREADY COME.

I'M SITTING ON ICE, AND

I'M LOOKING BACK, AND I

CAN SEE THE ENTIRE TRAIL

WE HAD COME UP.

IT WAS THE WILDEST THING

TO SEE THE TRAIL, THAT

JUST WENT ON AND ON AND ON

FOREVER, OUT OF SIGHT.

I'M, LIKE, HOLY COW, WE

WENT THAT FAR.

Reporter: HEMMINGWAY

ONCE WROTE, "ALL HE COULD

SEE AS WIDE AS THE WORLD

WAS THE SQUARE TOP OF

KILIMANJARO, AND THEN HE

KNEW THAT THERE WAS WHERE

HE WAS GOING."

KYLE WAS THERE, 19,000

FEET IN THE AIR, AS THE

FIRST QUADRUPLE AMPUTEE TO

SUMMIT THE MOUNTAIN.

AND ONCE AGAIN HE BEAT THE

IMPOSSIBLE.

I HELD IT TOGETHER AT

THE TOP.

I JUST FELT LIKE CALLING

MY MOM, AND SHE STARTED

CRYING AND I JUST BROKE.

AND I STARTED CRYING AFTER

THAT, TOO.

AND A COUPLE OF MOMENTS

AFTER THAT, I GOT TO PAY

TRIBUTE TO A FALLEN

SOLDIER.

IN THE REALLY TOUGH

MOMENTS WHEN I WAS READY

TO QUIT, A LOT OF IT WAS,

MAN, HE'S NEVER GOING TO

GET THE CHANCE TO CLIMB

THIS MOUNTAIN.

IT REALLY KEPT ME GOING.

IT WAS THE GREATEST HONOR

IN MY LIFE.

Andrew: KYLE RETURNED

HOME AND EARNED AN ESPY

AWARD FOR HIS EFFORTS.

HE ALSO CAME BACK WITH A

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.

AND NOW HE'S NOT JUST

WORKING TO CONQUER THE

IMPOSSIBLE; HE IS HELPING

OTHERS DO THE SAME.

I LEARNED WHATEVER

GIFTS WE'VE BEEN GIVEN,

YOU HAVE TO GO AND SHARE

IT.

SOMETIMES THAT MEANS DOING

THINGS THAT ARE

UNCOMFORTABLE, THAT EVERY

FIBER IN YOUR BODY DOESN'T

WANT YOU TO DO, AND YOU'VE

GOT TO DO IT ANYWAY.

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I

WOULD PRAY A LOT THAT I

WOULD WAKE UP AND HAVE

ARMS AND LEGS.

NOW I THINK THOSE PRAYERS

HAVE BEEN ANSWERED IN A

TOTALLY DIFFERENT WAY.

IT IS COMES IN THE FORM OF

THE LEARNING I HAVE, AND

IT CAN TRANSCEND INTO

ANYTHING.

NOW THERE IS NOTHING YOU

COULD OFFER ME TO HAVE ME

LIVE MY LIFE DIFFERENTLY.

I FEEL LIKE IT IS THE

BIGGEST BLESSING I'VE EVER

RECEIVED.

Andrew: WELL, OF

COURSE, I WILL ECHO WHAT

MANY HAVE SAID, THAT KYLE

IS AN INSPIRATION, AND

WE'RE SO PRIVILEGED TO

TELL HIS STORY HERE.

AND IT IS A LIVING

ILLUSTRATION -- THERE IS

THAT NEW TESTAMENT

SCRIPTURE: "I CAN DO ALL

THINGS THROUGH CHRIST, WHO

STRENGTHENS ME."

THE POWER OF CHRIST TO

HELP US OVERCOME THE

OBSTACLES -- OBVIOUSLY,

HIS STORY CHANGES OUR

PERSPECTIVE.

WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR LIVE'S

CIRCUMSTANCES, AND WE

FOCUS, MAYBE FIRST THING

IN THE MORNING, ON WHAT

DISCOURAGES US, WHAT NEEDS

FIXING IN MY LIFE?

BUT KYLE IS A MAN WHO

LOOKS AT THE CHALLENGES

AND SAYS, I CAN DO THIS.

WHAT HAVE I BEEN EQUIPPED

WITH TO HELP ME OVERCOME

MY CHALLENGES.

AND HE WAS HONEST, THAT

THERE WERE DAYS WHERE HE

FELT LIKE INSIDE, HE

WASN'T LIVING WHAT HE WAS

SAYING.

BUT GOD SHOWED HIM GRACE

AND PATIENCE AND THEN LED

HIM UP THAT MOUNTAIN IN A

MARVELOUS WAY.

THANK YOU, KYLE.

> STILL AHEAD, WHEN HER

BABY WAS BORN WITH A BIRTH

DEFECT, HER HUSBAND LEFT

THEM WITH NOTHING.

BUT SEE HOW YOU TURNED

THINGS AROUND FOR THIS

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER.

THAT'S NEXT.

Andrew: WHEN A WOMAN

IN SENEGAL GAVE BIRTH TO

HER BABY, IT SHOULD HAVE

BEEN A

Reporter: AND EVEN

THOUGH SHE DID OTHER

PEOPLE'S LAUNDRY FOR A FEW

DOLLARS A WEEK, THERE WAS

NOTHING LEFT OVER FOR

SURGERY.

IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT.

WE OFTEN DID NOT EAT.

Reporter: THEN SHE

LEARNED ABOUT CBN AND THE

OPPORTUNITY FOR KATIE TO

RECEIVE AN OPERATION.

I THOUGHT IT WAS A

MIRACLE.

THIS SURGERY WILL CHANGE

EVERYTHING.

Reporter: CBN

ARRANGED FOR KATIE TO HAVE

THE FREE OPERATION, AND IT

WAS A SUCCESS.

THEN WE HELPED ASITATU AND

HER DAUGHTER FIND A NEW

HOME, AND SET UP A

BUSINESS FOR HER TO SELL

PRODUCE IN THE MARKET.

IN THE THREE MONTHS SINCE

WE DID THAT, KATIE'S LIP

HAS COMPLETELY HEALED, AND

ASITATU IS MAKING A SMALL

PROFIT FROM HER BUSINESS.

WITH THE BUSINESS, I

CAN SATISFY ALL OF OUR

NEEDS.

I'M SO GRATEFUL TO YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

GOD BLESS YOU.

Andrew: WELL, WHEN A

BABY IS BORN WITH A CLEFT

PALATE, ONE WOULD HOPE

THAT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

WOULD RALLY AROUND THAT

FAMILY.

BUT IN THIS CASE, THE BABY

WAS CONSIDERED A CURSE AND

THE MOM AND CHILD WERE

OUTCAST IN THE COMMUNITY.

BUT THANKS TO PEOPLE LIKE

YOU, THOSE WHO ARE "700

ABLE TO DO SOME WONDERFUL
