Efrem: SECONDS AWAY

ON "STUDIO 5"...

I THANK GOD FOR LETTING

ME DO MY PART IN THIS WAR

AND SAVING THE LIVES OF MY

FELLOW MEN.

Efrem: THE BIG SCREEN

STORY OF A REAL-LIFE

SOLDIER WHO SAVED MORE

THAN 70 MEN FROM THE

BATTLE FIELD OF WORLD WAR

II WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING A

WEAPON.

I'M GOING TO DRAG YOU.

Efrem: GET YOUR FIRST

LOOK AT "HACKSAW RIDGE,"

AND SEE HOW IT IS STARTING

A CONVERSATION ABOUT A

SILENT ILLNESS.

PLUS...

I TEACH MY STUDENTS I

HAD A REAL JOB BEFORE I

CAME HERE.

Efrem: FROM FIGHTER

PILOT TO THE FOOTBALL

FIELD, AND THREE-TIME

FOOTBALL CHAMPION.

WE REALLY RALLIED

TOGETHER AS A TEAM.

EVERYBODY KNEW THEIR ROLE.

Efrem: CHAD

HENNINGS

TAKES US INSIDE.

> AND THEN...

I ALLOWED HATE AND

BITTERNESS TO COME INTO MY

HEART.

I COULDN'T BE THAT WAY IN

AFGHANISTAN AND THEN COME

HOME TO MY WIFE AND BEEN

SOMEONE DIFFERENT.

Efrem: M.M.A. FIGHTER

CHAD ROBO IS IN "STUDIO

5," AND IT STARTS NOW.

*

[YELLING]

Efrem: A SOLDIER GOES

INTO BATTLE TO RESCUE MORE

THAN 70 MEN, ARMED WITH

ONLY HIS BIBLE AND HIS

FAITH.

THAT IS A POWERFUL SCENE

FROM THE FILM "HACKSAW

RIDGE," AND IT LAYS THE

FOUNDATION FOR TODAY'S

EDITION OF "STUDIO 5."

WELCOME TO THE SHOW, AND

THANKS FOR YOUR COMPANY.

WE'LL HAVE URE FIRST LOOK

AT "HACKSAW RIDGE" IN JUST

A MOMENT.

FIRST, LET'S BEGIN WITH A

RUNDOWN OF THIS WEEK'S

UPLIFTING ENTERTAINMENT

HEADLINES.

THIS IS YOUR TOP FIVE FROM

"STUDIO 5."

AT NUMBER FIVE IS NBA STAR

KEVIN DURANT, GETTING

ATTENTION FOR A

HEART-WARMING VIDEO,

SURPRISING A YOUNG FAN

AWAY FROM THE BASKETBALL

COURT.

I JUST DON'T WANT THAT.

I WANT TO DO BETTER.

ESPECIALLY FOR MY MOM, I

WANT HER LIFE TO BE

BETTER.

Efrem: THE

11-YEAR-OLD IS FROM

KEVIN'S HOME TOWN, AND HE

IS BEING RAISED BY A

SINGLE MOTHER.

HE DREAMS OF BEING AN

ENTERTAINER AND TAKING

CARE OF HER.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

I WAS JUST LEAVING MY

MOM'S.

I WANTED TO HELP MY MOM.

I LIKE THAT.

I GOT IT FOR YOU.

Efrem: YOUNG JAMES

WAS INSPIRED BY KEVIN'S

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH,

HONORING HIS OWN MOM IN

2014.

> NOW

WHAT LAW SAYS I'VE GOT

TO LIKE YOU?

Efrem: DENZEL

WASHINGTON SHARES WHAT

KEPT HIM FROM SERIES

TROUBLE.

MY THREE CLOSEST

FRIENDS DID QUITE A BIT OF

TIME.

Efrem: REALLY?

YES, IN DECADES.

AND MY MOTHER HAD ENOUGH

SENSE TO GET ME OUT OF

THAT SITUATION BEFORE IT

WAS GOING TO BE MY TURN.

Efrem: AND NOW TO

NUMBER THREE.

HE IS A GREAT PLANNER,

AND WE TEAMWORK TOGETHER.

Efrem: NEWLYWEDS

RUSSELL WILSON AND CIARA

HAVE ANNOUNCED THEY ARE

EXPECTING THEIR FIRST

CHILD TOGETHER.

THEY MADE NEWS DURING

THEIR COURTSHIP FOR BEING

OPEN ABOUT DATING GOD'S

WAY AND SAVING SEX FOR

MARRIAGE.

*

Efrem: AT NUMBER TWO,

OUR PRAYERS FOR A

CHAMPION.

OLYMPIC FIGURESKATING

CHAMPION AND COMMENTATOR

SCOTT HAMILTON HAS BEEN

DIAGNOSED WITH HIS THIRD

BRAIN TUMOR.

I THINK I'M MORE KNOWN

FOR MY HEALTH PROBLEMS

THAN ANYTHING I EVER DID.

Efrem: HAMILTON

TWEETED, DESPITE THE

ILLNESSES, I'VE BEEN

BLESSED BEYOND MY WILDEST

IMAGINATION.

> AT NUMBER ONE, ANDREW

GARFIELD IS ON THE LATEST

EDITION OF "RELEVANT"

MAGAZINE.

I FELT PRETTY STRONG

GOING IN, THE STRONGEST

I'VE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE.

I GOT THROUGH THREE GUYS,

I THINK, AND I SAID, I

NEED HELP.

THERE AIN'T NO WAY.

SO HE WAS GETTING SOME

ASSISTANCE.

HE WAS GETTING DIVINE

HELP, THERE IS NO DOUBT IN

MY MIND ABOUT THAT.

Efrem: AND THOSE ARE

YOUR TOP FIVE FROM "STUDIO

5" FOR THIS WEEK.

AND ALSO MAKING HEADLINES

IN THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD

IS MEL GIBSON'S FILM

"HACKSAW RIDGE."

IT IS BASED ON THE TRUE

STORY OF DESMOND DOSS.

A MAN OF FAITH WHO JOINED

THE MILITARY DURING WORLD

WAR II, AND A MAN WHO'S

FAITH MADE HIM REFUSE TO

CARRY A WEAPON.

WE HAVE THIS FIRST LOOK AT

"HACKSAW RIDGE."

YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER

THAN US?

NO.

WHAT IF YOU WAS

ATTACKED?

LIKE THAT.

THE BIBLE SAYS TO TURN THE

OTHER CHEEK, DON'T IT?

Efrem: "HACKSAW

RIDGE" IS THE TRUE STORY

OF A MEDIC WHO RESCUED

MORE THAN 70 MEN FROM

BATTLE DURING WORLD WAR

II, AND HE DID IT WITHOUT

A SINGLE WEAPON.

FICTION IS NOWHERE NEAR

AS GOOD AS THE TRUTH.

WE ALL WISH AND HOPE WE

HAVE THAT KIND OF STRENGTH

AND CONVICTION AND

COURAGE.

IT JUST SPOKE TO MY

HEART.

I REALLY DUG THE STORY.

TEARDROPS ON PAGE 94.

Efrem: OSCAR WINNER

MEL GIBSON DISTRICTS THE

FILM, HIS FIRST IN 10

YEARS.

WOULD YOU CALL THIS A

COMPANION PIECE TO BRAVE

HEART?

I THINK IT IS MORE

EVOLVED BECAUSE IT IS

REALLY ABOUT LOVE, NOT

WAR.

I THANK GOD FOR LETTING

ME DO MY PART IN THIS WAR

IN SAVING THE LIVES OF MY

FELLOW MAN.

Efrem: DOSS IS A

LIVING STORY OF LOVE FOR

GOD, HIS COUNTRY, AND HIS

WIFE, DOROTHY.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH YOU

BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T LIKE

ANYONE ELSE.

THEY'RE SAYING YOU COULD

GO TO PRISON.

IT IS JUST THEIR

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE BETWEEN

THEM.

AND THE LOVE FEELS SO PURE

AND INNOCENT, AND I THINK

IT IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM

SOME OF THE ROMANCES WE

SEE THESE DAYS.

Efrem: I KNOW THAT

YOU DID A LOT OF RESEARCH

ON WOMEN DURING THAT TIME

PERIOD.

WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT?

I ACTUALLY DID A LOT OF

RESEARCH, MORE

SPECIFICALLY ON DOROTHY.

THERE IS HARDLY ANY

FOOTAGE OF HER.

BUT THE FEW THINGS I DID

SEE, I SAW HOW SHE WALKED

WITH SUCH GRACE AND

ELEGANCE.

AND SHE IS A WOMAN OF

GREAT FAITH.

PRIVATE DOSS, YOU ARE

FREE TO RUN INTO THE HELL

FIRE OF THAT WITHOUT A

SINGLE WEAPON TO PROTECT

YOURSELF.

Efrem: HE GOES INTO

BIBLE WITH ONLY HIS FAITH

IN GOD AND HIS BIBLE AS A

WEAPON.

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?

THAT IS THE QUESTION.

IT IS DEEPLY MYSTERIOUS.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF HE

KNEW HOW HE DID IT.

THE WAY I SEE IT AND THE

WAY MEL FRAMED IT FOR US,

YOU FEEL THERE IS NO

CHOICE.

HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY HAVE A

CHOICE IN THE MATTER.

THERE IS A CALLING.

HE ASKS, ON TOP OF THE

RIDGE, WHEN EVERYONE ELSE

IS RETREATING, HE PAUSES

AND TAKES A SECOND, AND HE

ASKS, WHAT DO YOU WANT OF

ME?

HE IS TUNING IN TO THE

VOICE OF HIS GOD.

WHERE DO YOU WANT ME?

JUST DISCOVERING THAT

THIS IS A MAN THAT LIVED

WAS A SURPRISE.

I'VE GOT GUM ON MY

SHOE.

IT'S A LITTLE LATE FOR

TARGET PRACTICE NOW, DON'T

YOU THINK?

Efrem: HOW WOULD YOU

DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENS TO

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN

SERGEANT HOWELL AND

DESMOND OVER THEIR TIME

TOGETHER?

I THINK SERGEANT HOWELL

STARTS FROM A PLACE OF HIS

OWN FAITH AND CONVICTION.

I THINK I RECOGNIZED IN MY

CHARACTER VERY EARLY, THAT

HE IS AUTHENTIC, BUT HE IS

IN ABSOLUTE COLLISION WITH

MY BELIEF SYSTEM.

WE ARE GOING TO WAR.

IT IS NOT A GOOD FIT FOR

SOMEONE WHO IS NOT

PREPARED TO CARRY A GUN OR

DEFEND HIS BROTHERS IN THE

FOX HOLES.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT OUR

RELATIONSHIP, WHICH IS

DIFFERENT FROM ANY OF THE

OTHERS, IS THERE IS A

SENSITIVE HUMOR IN IT,

WHERE YOU REALIZE THERE IS

NO APOLOGY NEEDED.

WE KIND OF GOT WHO EACH

OTHER WAS, AND WE'RE JUST

BOTH LOOKING AT EACH OTHER

IN THESE KIND OF ODDITY

WAYS AND ENJOYING EACH

OTHER.

BUT THERE IS SOMETHING,

WHEN HE COMES FOR ME,

WHERE WE KIND OF PROTECT

EACH OTHER.

THERE IS A BEAUTY IN THAT

YING AND YANG THAT COMES

TOGETHER.

Efrem: IT IS RATED

"R" FOR IT'S PROLONGED

BATTLE SCENES AND SOME

NUDITY.

IT IS NOT A FILM FOR

CHILDREN, BUT IT IS A

POWERFUL FILM WORTH

SEEING.

> STILL AHEAD ON "STUDIO

5"...

YOU'RE VERY AGITATED.

YOU CAN'T SLEEP.

THE DEMONS COME AT NIGHT.

Efrem: "HACKSAW

RIDGE" TURNS UP THE VOLUME

ON AN OFTEN SILENT KILLER.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AN

INVISIBLE WOUND OF WAR,

FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO,

ONE.

Efrem: AND WELCOME

BACK TO "STUDIO 5."

THE FILM-MAKERS BEHIND

"HACKSAW RIDGE" WANTED TO

TELL THE COURAGEOUS STORY

OF PRIVATE DESMOND DOSS.

AND THEY WANT A

CONVERSATION TO FOLLOW AND

RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT A

CONDITION ONE IN THREE

VETERANS FACE.

AND IT LEADS TO AN

ESTIMATED 22 SUICIDES

EVERY DAY.

POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS

DISORDER IS TRIGGERED BY

EXPERIENCING OR WITNESSING

A TRAFFIC EVENT.

YOU'RE VERY AC AGITATED.

YOU'RE IN THAT

HEIGHTENED STATE OF

AWARENESS.

YOU ARE PERCEIVING A MOST

THINGS AS A THREAT.

Efrem: FOR MEN IN THE

MILITARY, PTSD IS AN

UNFORTUNATE CONSEQUENCE OF

THE JOB.

UNLESS IT IS SOMETHING YOU

HAVE EXPERIENCED

FIRSTHAND, UNDERSTANDING

HOW TO HELP SOMEONE CAN BE

DIFFICULT.

"HACKSAW RIDGE"

FILM-MAKERS HOPE THE GOREY

WAR SCENE ALLOWS VIEWERS

TO IMAGINE WHAT SOLDIERS

EXPERIENCE.

I MADE IT GRAPHIC SO

PEOPLE WOULD REALLY BE

ABLE TO APPRECIATE WHAT IT

MUST BE LIKE.

Efrem: ANOTHER

ARTFORM RAISING AWARENESS

IS COMEDY.

MEET THESE TWO COMEDIANS.

AS IT STANDS NOW, ONLY 40%

OF SERVICE MEMBERS WITH

PTSD WILL SEEK HELP.

BERNARD AND FREDERICK HOPE

TO CHANGE THAT ONE LAUGH

AT A TIME.

SO HOW DO THE PAIR USE

COMEDY TO HELP HEAL THE

INVISIBLE WOUNDS OF WAR?

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING

ABOUT IN TODAY'S "STUDIO

5."

AND I'M JOINED NOW BY

THOSE TALENTED TWO

COMEDIANS, FRED MCKINNON

AND BERNARD HEINZ.

THANK YOU BOTH FOR BEING

HERE.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING

US.

Efrem: YOU ACTUALLY

SUFFERED FROM PTSD --

YES.

Efrem: AND YOU CALL

YOURSELF A LAUGHTER

THERAPIST BECAUSE?

BECAUSE LAUGHTER WAS

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT

KEPT ME FROM COMMITTING

SUICIDE.

I WAS SEVERELY CLOSE TO

COMMITTING SUICIDE.

AND MY BISHOP AND MY

LAUGHTER REALLY KEPT ME

FROM GOING OVER THE EDGE.

Efrem: FRED, WHAT DO

YOU DO WITH VETERANS?

I'M PART OF AN

ORGANIZATION CALLED "ARMED

SERVICES ART PARTNERSHIP."

I TEACH A COMEDY BOOT

CLASS.

AS A WAY TO BUILD

SELF-CONFIDENCE AND

ENCOURAGE THEM TO STEP

OUTSIDE OF THE BOX.

AS BERNARD SAID, LAUGHTER

IS SOMETHING THAT IS FOOD

FOR THE SOUL.

IT IS VERY REWARDING TO

WORK WITH OTHER VETERANS

AND ALSO DEPENDENTS, AND

USING LAUGHTER TO

ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO

THINGS TO HELP WITH THEIR

PTSD.

Efrem: AND IT

ACTUALLY TOOK YOU TO THE

WHITE HOUSE LAST WEEK?

YES.

[LAUGHTER]

BEING PART OF THE

PROGRAM, THE WHITE HOUSE

PUT ON A COMEDY EVENT FOR

THE VETERANS.

AND THE STUDENTS THAT HAD

BEEN THROUGH THE CLASS GOT

AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET UP

AND PERFORM.

JOSEPH BIDEN COULDN'T BE

THERE, SO THEY ASKED ME TO

STEP IN.

[LAUGHTER]

IT WAS A GREAT EVENT,

TO SEE SOME OF THEIR

INSECURITIES AND

ANXIETIES, AND TO SEE THEM

FLOURISH DOING STANDUP.

IT IS NOT NECESSARILY

ABOUT THE COMEDY, BUT IT

IS A WAY FOR THEM TO

EXPRESS THEMSELVES

COMICALLY.

Efrem: AND HOW DO WE

GO FROM TRAUMA TO

LAUGHTER?

WHAT DO YOU DO?

IT IS SOMETHING I KNEW

I WANTED TO DO, BUT I HAD

TO REALLY PUSH MYSELF TO

DO IT.

AND ONCE I GOT UP THERE

AND SAW THAT, OKAY --

BECAUSE WHEN I CAME BACK

WITH PTSD, I THOUGHT I WAS

NOTHING.

I LOST EVERYTHING, THE

HOUSE.

SO COMEDY REALLY ALLOWED

ME TO SAY, OKAY, I CAN

GIVE SOMETHING BACK.

BY GOING TO SEE A

THERAPIST AND DOING

COMEDY, THAT'S WHY I CAME

UP WITH THE LAUGH

THERAPIST THAT REALLY

HELPED ME THAT WAY.

Efrem: YOU WENT TO

SEE A THERAPIST, BUT AS

YOU SAW, MOST DON'T.

WHY DON'T WE?

STIGMA.

PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LOOK

AT YOU AND THINK YOU'RE

CRAZY.

THEY ALREADY THINK YOU

ARE.

[LAUGHTER]

Efrem: AND YOU THINK

YOU'RE CRAZY, SO THERE YOU

GO.

[LAUGHTER]

A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE

SECURITY CLEARANCES, AND

THEY THINK IF I GET LOOKED

AT BY A THERAPIST, WHOA,

THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE MY

CLEARANCE.

NO.

IT WAS THE BEST THING I

DID.

AND THEY'RE MENTALLY

INCARCERATING THEMSELVES,

LIKE HE STATED.

I WORKED FOR THE

DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY,

AND A LOT OF -- ESPECIALLY

MEN, BUT VETERANS IN

GENERAL DON'T WANT TO GET

HELP.

THEY LOOK AT IT AS A SIGN

OF INSECURITY OR WEAKNESS.

AND THAT KEEPS THEM

MENTALLY INCARCERATED TO

THE DISEASE.

AND WITH PEOPLE LIKE

BERNARD AND WORKING THESE

CLASSES AND GETTING THE

WORD OUT AND USING

WHATEVER MEANS YOU HAVE TO

COPE WITH THE PTSD.

AND A LOT OF PEOPLE USE

SUBSTANCE ABUSE TO COPE.

I HAD A REALLY GREAT

SUPPORT GROUP.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GREAT

SUPPORT GROUP.

AND YOU HAVE TO PUT OUT

THE WORD THAT GETTING HELP

IS NOT GOING TO END YOUR

CAREER.

Efrem: THANK YOU SO

MUCH FOR YOUR SERVICE AND

FOR YOU'RE STOPPING BY

"STUDIO 5."

AND TO LEARN MORE ABOUT

THESE TWO FUNNY MEN AND

WHERE YOU CAN SEE THEM

PERFORM, CHECK OUT MY

"STUDIO 5" BLOG.

> STILL TO COME ON

"STUDIO 5," FROM FIGHTER

PILOT IN AMERICA'S

MILITARY TO THREE-TIME

FOOTBALL CHAMPION ON

AMERICA'S TEAM.

CHAD HENINNINGS HAS A RARE

LOOK INSIDE THE COWBOYS'

WINNING WAYS.

THEY PREPARE AND WORK

EXTREMELY HARD FOR A

Efrem: WELCOME BACK

TO "STUDIO 5."

A BIT OF A MILITARY

EDITION, AND WE'RE

CONTINUING IN THAT SPIRIT.

FORMER DEFENSIVE TACKLE

CHAD HENNINGS WAS A DALLAS

COWBOY WHEN AMERICA'S TEAM

WON THREE SUPER BOWLS IN

THE '90s, BUT HIS

SUCCESS ON THE FIELD ISN'T

HIS ONLY ACCOMPLISHMENT.

HE WAS A DEMOCRATIC CRATED

AIR FORCE PILOT, AND HE IS

TODAY'S "FAITH ON THE

FIELD."

I'M CHAD HENNINGS,

DEFENSIVE TACKLE, THREE

TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION

WITH THE DALLAS COWBOYS.

THEY WERE THE LEGACY TEAM

OF THE '90s.

I TEACH MY TEAMMATES, I

HAD A REAL JOB BEFORE I

CAME, FLYING MISSIONS IN

IRAQ AND FLYING FIGHTER

JETS BEFORE JOINING THE

COWBOYS.

SEE COMBAT, WHAT WAR CAN

DO, HATE, THAT THERE IS

EVIL IN THE WORLD, IT

GIVES YOU A DIFFERENT

PERSPECTIVE.

HOW TO THINK

STRATEGICALLY, TACTICLY,

SUPPORTING YOUR WINGMEN,

AND YOUR WINGMEN

SUPPORTING YOU.

THAT'S THE GREATEST THINGOF CLNG IN THAT J ET

THAT I EXPERIENCED.

WE REALLY RALLY TOGETHER

AS A TEAM.

THERE REALLY WASN'T

INDIVIDUAL AGENDAS.

EVERYBODY KNEW THEIR ROLE.

THEY PREPARED AND WORKED

EXTREMELY HARD FOR A

COMMON GOAL, AND THAT WAS

TO WIN FOOTBALL GAMES AND

ULTIMATELY WIN THE SUPER

BOWL.

AS CHRISTIANS, WE'RE ALL

CALLED TO BE SERVANTS AND

TO MODEL THE LIFE OF

CHRIST.

TO NOT MAKE IT ABOUT YOU,

FIRST TO MAKE IT ABOUT

HIM, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR,

AND TO GIVE AND HELP

OTHERS.

I'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE

A LOT OF THINGS, BUT THAT

HAS NEVER BROUGHT ME

HAPPINESS, CONTENTMENT,

FULFILLMENT.

YOU CAN NEVER REACH THAT

UNLESS YOU FIND THE PEACE

AND THE HAPPINESS AND THE

SERENITY THAT YOU CAN FIND

WITH A RELATIONSHIP WITH

JESUS CHRIST.

THAT'S TRUE FULFILLMENT.

Efrem: THAT IS,

INDEED, TRUE FULFILLMENT.

THANKS, CHAD, FOR SHARING

YOUR STORY.

YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT IT

IN HIS BOOK, "RULES OF

ENGAGEMENT, FINDING

FRIENDSHIP, FAITH, IN A DISCONNECTED WORLD."

UP NEXT, FROM A CHAMPION

AT WAR TO AN M.M.A.

FIGHTER, BUT STILL BROKEN.

I WOULD SIT IN MY

CLOSET FOR A PERIOD OF

ABOUT TWO WEEKS, EVERY

DAY, WITH MY PISTOL, AND

TRYING TO TALK MYSELF INTO

TAKING MY LIFE.

Efrem: CHAD ROBO SITS

Efrem: WE'RE JUST

ABOUT OUT OF TIME FOR THIS

EDITION OF "STUDIO 5."

BUT BEFORE WE GET TO THE

FINAL WORD, HERE IS LOOK

AT WHAT WE HAVE IN STORE

FOR THE NEXT TIME HERE ON

"STUDIO 5."

*

* OH, SO PRICELESS

Efrem: GRAMMY

AWARD-WINNING DUO FOR KING

AND COUNTRY BRING A

PRICELESS PERFORMANCE TO

THE "STUDIO 5" MUSIC

STAGE.

AND WE SIT DOWN FOR A

CANDID CONVERSATION WITH

THOSE MUSIC AND NOW

MOVIE-MAKING BROTHERS.

IT IS THE CHURCH NOW

THAT I THINK IS SAYING,

LET'S FIGURE OUT STRATEGIC

AND INTELLIGENT WAYS TO

TAKE ON VERY COMPLICATED

ISSUES.

AND I'M A LOVER OF THE

CHURCH, AND I LOVE THAT

CHURCHES ARE SAYING, WE'VE

GOT TO LEAD THE CHARGE

HERE.

Efrem: STAY TUNED FOR

THAT STORY AND MUCH MORE

NEXT WEEK.

AS FOR THIS EPISODE, WE

LEAVE YOU WITH A FINAL

WORD FROM CHAD ROBO.

BEFORE HIS CAREER IN

MARTIAL ARTS, HE SERVED AS

A MILITARY SPECIAL

OPERATIONS OFFICER.

I AM TAKING BACK TO THE

WHITEIR, WHERE CHAD

TALKS ABOUT HIS TROUBLES

WITH PTSD AFTER EIGHT

DEPLOYMENTS TO

AFGHANISTAN.

I ALLOWED HATE AND

BITTERNESS TO COME INTO MY

HEART.

AND I COULDN'T BE THAT WAY

IN AFGHANISTAN.

AND THEN COME HOME TO MY

WIFE AND BE SOMEONE

DIFFERENT.

I WAS JUST BROKEN.

AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO

DO.

I WOULD SIT IN MY CLOSET

FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT TWO

WEEKS, PROBABLY EVERY DAY,

WITH MY PISTOL, AND I'D

TRY TO TALK MYSELF INTO

TAKING MY LIFE.

MY WIFE, ON THE OTHER

HAND, HAD A COMPLETELY

DIFFERENT REACTION THAN

ME.

SHE WAS IN CHURCH EVERY

DAY PRAYING FOR ME.

SO I MADE A DECISION TO

COMMIT MY LIFE TO CHRIST.

WHEN I DID THAT, THIS PTSD

DID THING THAT WAS

CONTROLLING MY LIFE,

BECAME A SET OF MEMORIES.

AND WE WANTED TO SHARE IT

WITH PARTICULARLY ALL

OTHER VETERANS WHO HAD

PTSD, AND THE 20 OR SO

VETERANS A DAY THAT ARE

KILLING THEMSELVES, AND

THE DIVORCES THAT HAPPEN

IN THE MILITARY -- YOU

WANT TO SHARE IT WITH

EVERYONE.

WE JUST FELT THAT SOMEBODY

NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING

ABOUT IT, AND WHY NOT US?

Efrem: WHY NOT US?

SUCH A POWERFUL QUESTION

WHEN IT COMES TO RISING

UP, TAKING ACTION, AND

DOING SOMETHING GOOD.

THAT IS THE FINAL WORD FOR

THIS EDITION OF "STUDIO

5."

UNTIL NEXT TIME, BE SURE

TO REACH OUT AND TOUCH ME

AT EFREM GRAHAM ON

INSTAGRAM, Facebook,

TWITTER, AND SNAPCHAT.

AND COME ON BACK AND SEE

WHERE "STUDIO 5" TAKES YOU

NEXT WEEK.
