WHY ISN'T GOD ANSWERING OUR PRAYERS FOR WORK? . I BLURTED OUT, "OH MY GOD," I WAS ADVISED THAT BY SAYING THIS I WAS SINNING AND TAKING THE LORD'S NAME IN VAIN. WHAT SHOULD I SAY INSTEAD? Read Transcript

Well, time for email.

You ready?

All right.

Well, I don't know I am or not.

Let's give it a try.

We'll find out.

OK.

We're going to bring it on today with Larry first.

He says, "I've been a believer for over 44 years

and married for 39 years.

I lost my job 11 weeks ago and have applied for over 100 jobs.

We're about to lose everything for the second time.

Why isn't God answering our prayers for work?

He knows I'm willing to work."

Larry, the Lord loves you, and I'll

tell you what, he has things that you will

be amazed if you just ask him.

The trouble is, you're looking to men to give you

a source of money and what you need to do

is to look to God as your source.

Now, you have skills--

things in your brain that are way beyond anything you

know right now.

And perhaps all you know is you're a machinist

and so you sent a letter to 60 companies

and they say we don't need a machinist

or you're a copywriter or you're whatever you are and you've

been turned down.

But there's nothing that says you can't start a company.

There's nothing that says you can't go online.

There's nothing that says you can't sell stuff

on the internet.

I mean, there is so much-- nothing

that says you can't take telephone calls at home.

There are so many things you can do.

What you need to do is open your mind

to the creative power of God and say, God, show me

what it is that I can do and watch.

We had David Green on yesterday.

The guy was building picture frames with his wife

and all of a sudden, God puts this thing in his mind

and now, he's got a $4.5 billion company.

Unbelievable.

And so you just-- but God gave him--

that's what I'm telling you.

You want an answer to your prayer--

the prayer is give me something that I can use.

Tell me what I'm supposed to do--

not give me a job.

Tell me what I'm supposed to do because God may have something

much better for you, OK?

This is Rebecca, who says, "At 69 years old,

I'm new to Christianity.

I attend a Bible study weekly, which I enjoy.

The pastor asked for prayer for his dad, who he described

as old at the age of 79.

I blurted out, oh my God, that's not old.

I was advised that by saying this,

I was sinning and taking the Lord's name in vain.

I feel horrible and now realize that my list of sins

must be so long and I don't even know

what all is considered sin.

What should I say instead?"

Oh, what she should say is get out of that church.

Leave off the key, Lee, and get yourself free.

That guy's nonsense.

To say what you said is perfectly normal.

You know, 69 isn't old.

TERRY MEEUWSEN: I think it's because she said, oh, my God.

Well, so does--

Yeah.

Oh, my God-- so that's an expression.

It's no big deal.

You know, I tell you we've got to have compassion

and your pastor didn't treat you with compassion.

So go someplace that does.

You know, God loves you.
