Gordon: EPHRAIM

BRINGS US THIS WEEK'S TOP

FIVE STORIES FROM THE

WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT.

I REALIZED THAT GOD WAS

BIGGER THAN MY

CIRCUMSTANCES.

AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS

THAT HAPPENED TO ME

HAPPENED FOR A REASON.

Gordon: PLUS, MEET

THE PRINCIPLE NAMED

EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR.

AND FIND OUT WHY HIS

STUDENTS CALL HIM DAD, ON

TODAY'S "700 CLUB

INTERACTIVE."

> WELL, WELCOME TO THE

SHOW.

HERE IS A LOOK AT THIS

WEEK'S TOP FIVE STORIES

FROM EFREM GRAHAM'S

"STUDIO 5."

*

Efrem: AT NUMBER

FIVE...

*

Efrem: AS FANS WAIT

FOR LE CRAE'S NEW ALBUM TO

BE RELEASED THIS SUMMER,

HE IS OFFERING INSPIRATION

FROM HIS OWN LIFE.

IN THIS INSTAGRAM POST, LE

CRAE REMINDS FANS, GOD'S

GOT YOU.

I REMEMBER I LOST MY

JOB.

I LOST THE WOMAN I LOVED.

AND THEN MY CAR FLIPPED

OVER THREE TIMES ON THE

HIGHWAY.

AND I SHOULD HAVE LOST MY

LIFE, BUT I ONLY LOST MY

CAR.

SO NO JOB, NO CAR, NO

WOMAN.

AND...I FELT LIKE I WAS IN

THE WORST PLACE IN MY

LIFE.

BUT, YOU KNOW, YOU ONLY

FEAR CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE

YOU FEAR GOD -- AND I HAD

TO REALIZE THAT GOD WAS

BIGGER THAN MY

CIRCUMSTANCES.

ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT

HAPPENED TO ME HAPPENED

FOR A REASON.

TO BUILD ASSURANCE, TO

BUILD RESILIENCE, TO MAKE

ME THE PERSON I AM TODAY.

AND I REALIZE I'M NOT MY

CIRCUMSTANCES.

IN FACT, I'M BIGGER THAN

MY CIRCUMSTANCES.

I AM A CHILD OF GOD.

HE IS THE CREATOR OF ALL

CREATION.

WHY AM I WORRIED ABOUT

THESE THINGS?

HE HAS GOT ME.

I PUT MY FAITH IN HIM.

Efrem: BY THE WAY,

YOU CAN READ ALL ABOUT HIM

IN HIS BOOK "UNASHAMED."

> AT NUMBER FOUR...

GOD, GIVE ME A SIGN OR

I HAVE TO GIVE UP.

I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE.

Efrem: POP STAR KESHA

RETURNS TO THE MUSIC THEME

WITH AN ANTHEM ABOUT

PRAYER.

*

* I HOPE YOU'RE SOMEWHERE

PRAYING *

* I HOPE YOU'RE SOMEWHERE

CHANGING *

Efrem: THIS SINGLE

COMES AHEAD OF HER FULL

ALBUM RELEASE TITLED

"RAINBOW," AND FOLLOWS A

STINT IN REHAB FOR AN

EATING DISORDER,

DEPRESSION, A YEAR'S LONG

LEGAL BATTLE TO BE

RELEASED FROM HER CONTRACT

WITH SONY, AND CLAIMS SHE

HAS BEEN ABUSED.

* I'M PROUD OF WHO I AM

* NO MORE MONSTERS

Efrem: AT NUMBER

THREE...

READY?

I'M READY.

Efrem: "DUCK

DYNASTY'S" SADIE ROBERTSON

IS COMING BUSY, FOLLOWING

THE END OF THE POPULAR

SHOW.

SHE ANNOUNCED SHE'LL BE

LEADING "WEDNESDAY WORD,"

A MID-WEEK BIBLE STUDY

WITH ONLINE FANS.

SHE HAS LONG SHARED HER

FAITH ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

THERE IS A VERSE IN

PROVERBS, AND IT TALKS

ABOUT KNOWING WHAT TO

OVERLOOK.

AND I'M, OOH, OKAY.

YOU'VE GOT TO KNOW WHAT TO

OVERLOOK SOMETIMES.

Efrem: AT NUMBER

TWO...

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR

WHAT SORT OF FANTASIES

YOU'RE PLAYING OFF AS

TRUTH TODAY.

Efrem: MOVE OVER

"YOUNG AND RESTLESS."

WE'RE TRYING A

CHRISTIAN SOAP OPERA,

COMING UP THIS FALL.

Efrem: PUREFLIX

ANNOUNCES IT IS ADDING A

SOAP OPERA TO ITS DIGITAL

LINE UP.

IT WILL STAR DONNA MILLS,

ANTONIO SABATO, JR., AND

WINK MARTINDALE, AS WELL

AS A FEW OTHER FAMILIAR

NAMES.

I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE IT

FRESH WHEN IT COMES OUT

THIS FALL.

YOU HAVE TO RELEAS RELIES REALIZE THAT

ALL OF OUR STORIES HAVE

DRAMA IN THEM.

Efrem: IT IS A TALK

SHOW IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

"FAITH WIRE."

NOW AT NUMBER ONE...

THE FIRST POEM I DID

WAS A LOVE POEM.

THEY THOUGHT, THIS MUST BE

GOOD BECAUSE I STOLE IT

OFF THE INTERNET.

Efrem: DONTE PARK

USES POETRY TO RISE ABOVE

A DEADLY TURF WAR IN HIS

OHOME TOWN, AND TO INSPIRE

THOSE AROUND HIM.

[RAPPING]

Efrem: CLARK'S STORY

IS NOW THE FOCUS OF A

POWERFUL DOCUMENTARY WITH

THE SUPPORT OF HIP-HOP AND

SPOKEN WORD PIONEER

RUSSELL SIMMONS.

Efrem: I'LL START

WITH YOU, BECAUSE I

UNDERSTAND YOU LOVED THIS

FILM IMMEDIATELY.

WHAT WAS IT ABOUT THE

FILM?

I'M A FAN OF POETRY.

I LOOK AT POETRY AS ONE OF

THE BETTER ANGELS IN

HIP-HOP.

ALTHOUGH ALL OF THIS IS

GREAT AND EXPRESSIVE, AND

INNOVATIVE, THIS

PARTICULAR THING APPEALED

TO ME, AS A WAY FOR THE

VOICELESS TO GET A VOICE.

Efrem: "ROMEO IS

BLEEDING" APPEARS IN NEW

YORK CITY LATER THIS WEEK,

AND A WIDER RELEASE ON

JULY 28th.

Gordon: WELL, EFREM

IS WITH US NOW TO TALK

MORE.

LET'S TALK ABOUT DONTE

CLARK.

IS HE SOMEBODY TO WATCH?

Efrem: HE IS

DEFINITELY SOMEONE TO

WATCH.

HE WAS DECLARED RICHMOND,

CALIFORNIA'S POET

LAUREATE.

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE

DOCUMENTARY, HE LOSES HIS

BROTHER TO GANG VIOLENCE.

AN ENGLISH TEACHER SEES

HIM, GETS HIM IN HER

CLASS.

IT IS HER FIRST TIME

TEACHING.

AND SHE SAYS THERE IS

SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT

THIS YOUNG MAN FROM THE

VERY BEGINNING.

SHE SAW IN HIM WHAT HE

DIDN'T SEE IN HIFL.

HIMSELF.

AND THAT BIRTHED THIS LOVE

OF WRITING AND POETRY.

AND, ALSO, HE GETS

INVOLVED WITH THIS GROUP

CALLED RAW, WHICH IS

RICHMOND TALENT,

ESSENTIALLY, AND THEY

RECREATE ROMEO & JULIET,

BASED ON THE TURF WAR THAT

IS GOING ON IN RICHMOND,

CALIFORNIA.

MY FAVORITE QUESTION THAT

I ASKED HIM: I KNOW FOR

PEOPLE LIKE YOU, THERE IS

USUALLY A PRAYING

GRANDMOTHER INVOLVED IN

THIS STORY SOMEWHERE.

WHERE IS YOURS?

AND HE SAID, FOR ME, IT'S

NOT A PRAYING GRANDMOTHER,

BUTMY PRAYING MOTHER.

SHE RAISED ME AND MY

BROTHERS AS A SINGLE

WOMAN, AND PRAYED FOR US

DAILY.

HE ORIGINALLY THOUGHT HE

WAS GOING TO GROW UP AND

BE A DRUG KINGPIN, BUT HE

FOUGHT BACK AGAINST THAT.

RUSSELL SIMMONS IS BEHIND

IT.

RUSSELL SIMMONS IS NOT

ONLY DOING THIS, BUT HE

PLANS TO BRING BACK HIS

PROGRAM CALLED "DEATH

POETRY JAM," AND HE IS

LOOKING AT THE CHANCE THE

RAPPER TO HOST IT.

WILL BE A REGULAR FEATURE

ON HBO, AND YOU'LL SEE

DONTE CLARK ON THAT.

Gordon: WHY IS IT A

RECURRING THEME, IF YOU

WILL, THAT THERE IS A

PRAYING MOM, A PRAYING

GRANDMOTHER, THAT LEGACY?

WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR THAT?

Efrem: I LOOK FOR

THAT BECAUSE I HAVE IT

PERSONALLY.

AND IT JUST -- IT SEEMS TO

ALWAYS BE THERE.

WE ARE THE PRODUCT OF OUR

PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS'

PRAYERS.

AND IT JUST GOES TO SHOW

THAT GOD HONORS HIS

PROMISES.

AND YOU CAN SEE IT.

I REALLY COULD, JUST

SITTING IN HIS PRESENCE,

AND TALKING TO HIM.

YOU FEEL THE PRESENCE OF

GOD WITH HIM.

HE DOESN'T NECESSARILY SEE

THE IT.

BUT WHEN YOU MEET HIM, I

CAN SEE WHY THE ENGLISH

TEACHER TOOK TO HIM.

YOU FEEL IT.

Gordon: THE SECOND

QUESTION WAS: HIS DREAM

WAS I'M GOING TO BE A DRUG

KINGPIN, WHICH IS ANOTHER

THEME THAT YOU HEAR AND

WH.AND WHY IS THAT?

WHY WOULD YOU ASPIRE TO

THAT?

BECAUSE THAT IS A LIFE OF

DEATH.

IF YOU LIVE THAT WAY,

YOU'RE GOING TO DIE OR

SPEND YOUR LIFE IN JAIL.

Efrem: ABSOLUTELY.

BECAUSE YOU, IN YOUR

COMMUNITY -- THESE PEOPLE

ARE CELEBRATED BECAUSE

HE'S GROWING UP IN

POVERTY, AND YOU LOOK AT

THE DRUG KINGPINS YOU SEE

EVERY DAY, AND UNTIL

YOU'RE SHOWN SOMETHING

DIFFERENT -- AS HE SAID,

THEY THOUGHT I STOLE THIS

POEM OFF THE INTERNET?

SO I'M THAT GOOD?

Gordon: I'M THAT

GOOD?

Efrem: AND HE GOES, I

BETTER WRITE SOME MORE, IF

YOU DON'T THINK I HAVE THE

POWER TO EVEN DO THIS.

TO HEAR THIS POETRY, WE'LL

FEATURE IT ON "STUDIO 5,"

BUT HE, IN THE MIDDLE OF

THE INTERVIEW, BREAKS INTO

A SPOKEN WORD FOR US.

AND IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL.

IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL TO

WATCH.

Gordon: WHAT WOULD

YOU SAY TO PEOPLE WHO

DON'T HAVE A PRAYING

GRANDMOTHER, DON'T HAVE A

PRAYING MOTHER?

HOW WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE

THEM?

Efrem: I ENCOURAGE

YOU THAT GOD SAYS THAT

JESUS CAME THAT WE MIGHT

HAVE LIFE, AND HAVE IT

MORE ABUNDANTLY.

AND IT IS NOT BECAUSE YOU

HAVE A PRAYING

GRANDMOTHER, IT IS BECAUSE

GOD LOVES YOU THAT MUCH.

DON'T FORGET THAT, THAT HE

SENT HIS SON FOR ALL OF US

US --

Gordon: I'M GOING TO

JUMP IN: JESUS IS PRAYING

FOR YOU.

HE IS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF

THE FATHER RIGHT NOW

PRAYING FOR YOU.

AND HIS PRAYERS GET

ANSWERED.

BUT IT IS NICE TO HAVE A

PRAYING GRANDMOTHER.

I HAD ONE -- I HAD TWO

PRAYING GRANDMOTHERS AND A

PRAYING GREAT GRANDMOTHER.

IT'S IN THE TORAH, THAT

THE RIGHTEOUSNESS GOES TO

THE THOUSANDETH

GENERATIONS.

> LET'S MOVE ON TO SOAP

OPERAS.

WE HAVE PUREFLIX GOING

INTO SOAP OPERAS.

Efrem: AND WE WANT TO

CORRECT SOME HISTORY HERE

BECAUSE THEY'RE SAYING THE

FIRST.

THEY'RE NOT THE FIRST.

Gordon: WE USED TO BE

CUTTING-EDGE.

WHAT HAPPENED?

HERE WE HAVE SOME VIDEO OF

CBN'S SOAP OPERA, WHICH IS

STILL PLAYING IN AFRICA

TODAY.

AND YOU CAN FIND IT ON

YouTube, IF YOU WANT

TO SEE THE FIRST CHRISTIAN

SOAP OPERA, AND IT WAS

DONE BACK IN THE '80s BY

CBN.

A LOT OF PEOPLE IN

PRODUCTION HERE TODAY CUT

THEIR TEETH ON "ANOTHER

LIFE."

Efrem: IT STILL LOOKS

GOOD.

Gordon: MAYBE

PUREFLIX WILL PICK IT UP.

Efrem: GOOD PITCH.

I LIKE IT.

Gordon: FOR ALL OF

THE LATEST IN ENCOURAGING

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS, CHECK

OUT EFREM'S WEEKLY SHOW,

"STUDIO 5," AND YOU CAN

WATCH IT ONLINE AT

cbn.com/studio5.

STILL AHEAD, HEAR HOW ONE

FAILING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SKYROCKETED TO AN "A" PLUS

RATING IN JUST ONE YEAR.

MEET THE PRINCIPAL THE

STUDENTS CALL DAD, HAYWARD

Gordon: WELL, HEYWARD

JOHN KNOWS WHAT IT IS LIKE

TO GROW UP WITHOUT A

FATHER.

THAT'S WHY HE WORKS SO

HARD TO REACH OUT TO THE

FATHERLESS CHILDREN IN HIS

COMMUNITY.

Reporter: HEYWARD

JOHN IS AN AWARD-WINNING

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

PRINCIPAL IN SOUTH

CAROLINA.

MANY OF HIS STUDENTS CALL

HIM DAD, A NAME HE WEARS

PROUDLY.

HE WAS TWO WHEN HIS OWN

DAD ABANDONED HIS FAMILY,

LEADING HE THEM TO A LIFE OF

HARDSHIP AND POVERTY.

AS A TEEN, HE THREW FITS

OF RAGE.

HE SHARES HOW HE OVER CAME

OBSTACLES FROM HIS

CHILDHOOD TO BECOME A

RESPECTED, DEVOTED

PRINCIPAL, DEVOTED TO

GIVING KIDS A BETTER START

IN LIFE.

Gordon: HERE IS THE

PRINCIPAL OF AN ELEMENTARY

SCHOOL IN ORANGEVILLE,

SOUTH CAROLINA, AND I'VE

GOT TO ASK YOU, YOU TOOK A

SCHOOL THAT WAS FAILING

AND TURNED IT INTO AN "A"

PLUS IN A YEAR.

AND HOW IN THE WORLD DID

YOU DO THAT?

THE PHRASE IS NOT HOW I

DID ANYTHING.

HOW WE DID IT.

TRULY IT WAS A TEAM

EFFORT.

IT WAS BACK IN 2013, AND

OUR SCHOOL EXPERIENCED A

TREMENDOUS CHALLENGE.

SO WE RALLIED TOGETHER AS

A TEAM.

DISTRICT LEADERS -- AND WE

WORKED REALLY HARD

TOGETHER.

AND SINCE THEN, WE'VE OVER

CROWDED OUR SCHOOL, AND

NOW WE'RE IN A REBUILDING

STAGE NOW.

Gordon: I HEAR YOU,

IT TAKES A TEAM.

BUT THERE HAS GOT TO BE AN

ORGANIZING PURPOSE.

THERE HAS TO BE --

SOMEBODY HAS TO BLOW THE

TRUMPET SO THE TEAM KNOWS

WHAT TO DO.

SO WHAT'S THE ORGANIZING

PURPOSE?

WHAT ARE YOU STRIVING FOR

EVERY DAY, WHEN YOU WAKE

UP EVERY DAY AND SAY WE'RE

GOING TO GO FROM FAILING

TO "A," AND THIS IS THE

ROADMAP.

WELL, IT IS A MINDSET.

MY MINDSET IS TO EMPOWER

THOSE WHO WILL EMPOWER THE

CHILDREN.

I BELIEVE THAT THE

CHILDREN CAN DO NOTHING IF

THE TEACHERS AREN'T

EMPOWERED AND FEELING

MOTIVATED.

I HAD A GREAT LEADER AT

THE TIME.

SHARON QUINN.

AND SHE ASKED US, WHAT

WILL YOU DO?

WHAT ARE YOUR BUILDING

STRATEGIES.

AND WE HAD PHENOMENAL

TEACHERS THAT WORKED

TOGETHER, AND RALLIED

TOGETHER, TO CAUSE

TEACHING TO BE MADE EASIER

IN THE CLASSROOM.

SINCE THEN, WE'RE WORKING

HARD TO REBUILD, TO

CONTINUE TO DO WHAT WE DID

BACK IN 2013.

Gordon: I HEAR THIS A

LOT FROM TEACHERS IN THE

LOCAL AREA -- I'M INVOLVED

IN A COUPLE OF PROGRAMS,

TRYING TO DO THE

TURNAROUND, AND I LOOK AT

YOUR STORY AND I GO, WOW!

AND I HEAR A LOT FROM

TEACHERS, THAT THEY DON'T

HAVE THE AUTHORITY -- I

GET A LOT OF "WE DON'T

HAVE."

THERE IS A LOT OF PASSION

GOING INTO IT, BUT WHAT IS

IT ABOUT THE SYSTEM OF

PUBLIC EDUCATION IN

AMERICA THAT TAKES POWER

AWAY FROM THAT TEACHER?

WHY?

SOMETIMES I THINK

TEACHERS FEEL AS IF

THEY'RE BEING MADE TO BE

MECHANICAL.

AND JESUS IS OUR MASTER

TEACHER.

HE DID THINGS AS BY THE

SPIRIT, WITH POWER AND

AUTHORITY RESULT.

BUT, ALSO, HE SAW

INDIVIDUALS THAT HE TAUGHT

AS PEOPLE.

AND SO WHEN YOU TEACH A

SUBJECT AND YOU DON'T

TEACH THE CHILD, THAT'S

WHEN YOU HAVE A CHALLENGE.

ALSO, ASSESSMENT.

IF YOU'RE ONLY

ASSESSMENT-DRIVEN, AND NOT

EMPOWERING

STUDENT-DRIVEN --

SOMETIMES TEACHERS FEEL

INTIMIDATED BECAUSE THEY

FEEL THEY'LL BE JUDGED BY

TEST SCORES, AND THAT'S

NOW HOW THEY SHOULD BE

JUDGE.

STUDENTS WILL CARE HOW

MUCH YOU KNOW UNTIL YOU

KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE.

SO AT MY SCHOOL, I GIVE MY

TEACHERS THAT OPPORTUNITY

AND THAT LIBERTY TO DO

THAT.

WE'RE SEEING SOME GREAT

CHANGES IN OUR CULTURE AND

OUR COMMUNITY.

Gordon: I SEE IT IN

THE PICTURES, THE KIDS

AROUND YOU -- THEY ADORE

YOU.

YOU CAN'T SAY, OKAY, NOW,

WE'RE TAKING A PICTURE,

CAN YOU PLEASE ADORE THE

PRINCIPAL.

THEY TRULY DO THAT.

WELL...

Gordon: SO HOW?

THAT'S AMAZING.

IT'S BECAUSE I ADORE THEM.

MY MOTHER, WHO IS A

PHENOMENAL HUMAN BEING --

THERE SHOULD BE A MOVIE

ABOUT HER -- MY MOTHER

TAUGHT ME THE IMPORTANCE

OF HAVING SELF-WORTH,

KNOWING WHO YOU ARE.

SO EVEN THOUGH WE GREW UP

WITHOUT OUR FATHER, WE

NEVER GREW UP NOT KNOWING

WHO WE WERE.

AND SHE NEVER SPOKE BAD

ABOUT HIM.

SO I NEVER HAD THIS

CHALLENGE OF NOT WANTING

TO BE WHO I AM.

I WAS NEVER SUICIDAL, BUT

SOMETIMES EVIL THOUGHTS

WOULD COME TO YOU, BUT YOU

DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THOSE

THOUGHTS.

BEING ABLE TO TAKE CHARGE

OF MY MINDSET ALLOWED ME

TO HAVE THE IDENTITY AND

TO BE A ROLE MODEL FOR THE

CHILDREN.

BECAUSE I'VE BEEN

CONFIDENT IN LEARNING WHO

I AM, I'M ABLE TO EMPOWER

KIDS WITH THE SAME THING.

WHEN I DEAL WITH CHILDREN,

I DON'T SAY LOOK AT YOU.

I SAY LOOK AT US.

SO IT IS AN US MENTALITY.

SO I SEE STUDENTS NOT JUST

AS STUDENTS, BUT I SEE

THEIR SOULS.

AND MY JOB IS TO UNLOCK

THE MYSTERY THAT LIES

WITHIN OUR CHILDREN.

SO I BELIEVE IN THAT.

I BELIEVE THAT'S AN

ATMOSPHERE THAT I CARRY

THAT ATTRACTS YOUNG

PEOPLE.

Gordon: HOW DID YOU

OVERCOME?

I CAN SEE WHY YOU HAD

NEGATIVE THOUGHTS.

YOU WERE IN A NEGATIVE

ENVIRONMENT.

MY HEART REALLY GOES OUT

TO ANYBODY WHO GROWS UP

WITHOUT A FATHER.

BUT WHEN YOU GROW UP

WITHOUT A FATHER, IT

PRETTY MUCH AUTOMATICALLY

MEANS YOU'RE GOING TO GROW

UP POOR.

THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS, BUT

THEY'RE REALLY RARE.

YEAH.

Gordon: BEING A

SINGLE PARENT IS JUST A

TICKET TO HARDSHIP.

YES.

Gordon: SO WHAT WAS

THE DISCIPLINE FOR YOU, TO

SAY I'M GOING TO NOT THINK

THAT WAY?

THAT'S A POWERFUL

QUESTION.

MY MOTHER MADE SURE THAT

WE WEREN'T DEFINED BY

POVERTY.

SO SHE NEVER TOLD US WE

WERE POOR.

EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A

POVERTY SOCIO ECONOMICS,

IT WAS NOT A POVERTY IN

SPIRIT OR HEART.

AND HER NEVER TELLING ME

BAD THINGS ABOUT MY DAD, I

WAS ABLE TO GROW UP NOT

HAVING TO BE DEFINED BY

WHAT MY DAD DID NOT DO.

I HAD GREAT UNCLES AND

FATHER FIGURES AND ROLE

MODELS IN MY LIFE, WHO

TOOK ME UNDER THEIR WING

AND MADE ME FEEL LIKE I

WAS A MAN.

BUT WHAT I WAS LEANING

TOWARDS AND NEEDING IN

ADDITION TO THAT WAS A

SPIRITUAL FATHER.

THAT'S HOW I BELIEVE I WAS

ABLE TO BE SUSTAINED TO

NOT MAKE SO MANY DUMB

MISTAKES THAT WOULD HAVE

COST ME MY LIFE OR THE

LIVES OF OTHERS BECAUSE AT

A YOUNG AGE, MY MOTHER

MADE SURE.

SHSO, NO, JUST BECAUSE YOU

DON'T HAVE A FATHER IN

YOUR LIFE, DOESN'T MEAN

YOU DON'T HAVE THE POWER

IN YOU.

AND MY MOTHER WOULD SAY,

SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE

UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT YOU

SAID YOU SAW.

WHICH MEANS YOU SPEAK

LIFE.

MY MOTHER SPOKE LIFE, AND

NOW I DO THAT.

I DO THAT FOR KIDS.

AND I MET A SPIRITUAL

FATHER IN PASTOR SHANE

WALL, AND HE SPIRITUALLY

FATHERED ME.

AND I SPIRITUALLY RESISTED

THAT.

NO ONE TO STEP IN AND TAKE

CARE OF THE SPIRITUAL ROLE

BECAUSE MY MOTHER TOOK

CARE OF THAT.

BUT THEY BROKE THROUGH

THAT RESISTANCE.

AND HE SAID, YOU'RE A GOOD

PERSON, BUT I NEED YOU TO

BE A CHRIST PERSON.

AND THAT'S HOW I'VE BEEN

ABLE TO ACCESS THAT POWER

AND AUTHORITY TO OVERCOME

AND TO HELP CHILDREN DO

THE SAME THING.

Gordon: YOU CAN GO TO

OUR Facebook PAGE AND WE

HAVE A SOCIAL EXCLUSIVE

INTERVIEW WITH HIM THERE.

THANK YOU FOR THAT.

THANK YOU.

Gordon: COMING UP,

WITNESS A CELEBRATION FOR

THE AGES AS ONE VILLAGE

GETS FRESH WATER AND A

BETTER WAY OF LIFE.

YOU ARE ALSO

TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF

MANY, MANY CHILDREN,

BECAUSE MANY OF THEM WILL

BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL

NOW.

Gordon: SEE HOW ONE

GROUP IS BRINGING CLEAN

Gordon: NEARLY ONE

BILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE

WORLD LIVE WITHOUT CLEAN

DRINKING WATER.

40% OF THEM LIVE IN

SUB-SAHARSUB-SAHARAN AFRICA, WHERE

PEOPLE WALK HOURS A DAY

FOR JUST A FEW CUPS OF

WATER.

GEORGE THOMAS MET A WOMAN

IN THE DESERT OF EASTERN

KENYA WHO HAS WALKED TENS

OF THOUSANDS OF MILES FOR

ONE OF LIFE'S MOST BASIC

NEEDS.

George: THE NEXT TIME

YOU TURN ON YOUR TAP,

THINK OF KANI KAHINI.

I WOULD BE A LOT

HEALTHIER THAN I AM TODAY

IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO TRAVEL

SO FAR FOR WATER.

George: KANSI LIVES

IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA,

WHERE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE

HAVE NO ACCESS TO SAFE

DRINKING WATER.

TWICE A DAY, SHE LEAVES

HER SMALL HUT, MADE OF

STICKS AND STONES, HERE IN

RURAL, EASTERN KENYA, AND

WALKS TO THE NEAREST PLACE

SHE CAN FIND WATER.

MY BACK HURTS, AND I'M

ALWAYS IN PAIN.

George: FOR MANY OF

US, WATER IS JUST A TAP

AWAY.

FOR KANSI, GETTING ACCESS

TO LIFE'S MOST BASIC NEEDS

IS ANYTHING BUT EASY.

I'VE BEEN FETCHING

WATER SINCE I WAS SEVEN

YEARS OLD.

George: I JOINED HER

AND OTHERS AS THEY MADE

THE DAILY TREK TO THE ONLY

SOURCE OF WATER.

THIS MUDDY POND, POLLUTED

BY ANIMAL AND HUMAN WASTE.

KANSI FETCHES WATER FROM

THIS POND MORNING AND

EVENING, AND SHE WALKS

13 MILES EACH DAY.

WHICH TRANSLATES TO ABOUT

4700 MILES EVERY YEAR.

AND GUESS WHAT?

SHE HAS BEEN DOING THIS

FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS.

WHICH MEANS SHE HAS LOGGED

CLOSE TO ABOUT 190,000

MILES.

HARD TO BELIEVE, REALLY,

BUT KANSI IS NOT ALONE.

A STAGGERING ONE BILLION

PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD

DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO

CLEAN, RUNNING WATER.

IN FACT, IN AFRICA ALONE,

WHERE THE BURDEN OF

FETCHING WATER OFTEN FALLS

TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN,

NEARLY 40 BILLION HOURS A

YEAR IS SPENT COLLECTING

WATER.

WE HAVE WATER.

THE LAST ONE.

George: DUDUM TEACHES

MATH AT A RURAL PRIMARY

SCHOOL.

HE SAYS TIME SPENT

GATHERING WATER IS TIME

CHILDREN COULD BE LEARNING

TO READ, WRITE, EARN AN

INCOME, OR TAKE CARE OF

THEIR FAMILY.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF YOUR

CHILDREN GO EVERY DAY TO

FETCH WATER?

70%.

George: AND THE WATER

THEY'VE SPENT ALL THAT

TIME COLLECTING ISN'T EVEN

CLEAN.

SOME 2,000 CHILDREN DIE

EACH DAY FROM

WATER-RELATED DISEASES.

LIKE KANSI, KANAN GREW UP

COLLECTING WATER FOR HER

FAMILY'S SURVIVAL, AND

OFTEN GOT SICK.

NOW SHE IS WITH THE

CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION

"WORLD VISION," TRYING TO

IMPROVE WATER CONDITIONS

IN ONE OF THE POOREST

COUNTIES IN KENYA.

I'M SO PASSIONATE TO

IMPROVE THE SITUATION HERE

BECAUSE IT IS AN

EXPERIENCE I WENT THROUGH.

I USED TO WALK SIX

KILOMETRES TO GET WATER AS

EARLY AS FIVE YEARS AGO.

George: SINCE 2008,

"WORLD VISION" HAS DRILLED

WELLS AND INSTALLED

HUNDREDS OF MILES OF

PIPELINES TO TRANSPORT

WATER TO TENS OF THOUSANDS

OF FAMILIES ACROSS THIS

DESERT REGION.

WHEN WE CAME HERE, IT

WAS 18%.

BUT CURRENTLY THE ACCESS

TO CLEAN WATER HAS

IMPROVED TO 62%, WHICH IS

A BIG RELIEF TO THIS

COMMUNITY.

George: SOON, KANSI'S

VILLAGE WILL HAVE ACCESS

TO CLEAN WATER FOR THE

FIRST TIME.

THIS IS A GREAT DAY FOR

THEM.

THAT'S WHY YOU SEE THEM

CELEBRATING BEHIND THERE.

George: "WORLD

VISION" IS INSTALLING A

NEW WELL THAT WILL BRING

WATER TO COUNTLESS

FAMILIES.

WE ARE ALWAYS

TRANSFORMING THE LIVES OF

MANY, MANY CHILDREN,

BECAUSE MANY OF THEM WILL

BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL

NOW.

George: FATUMBA HAS

EXPERIENCED THE

TRANSFORMATION THAT COMES

FROM HAVING ACCESS TO

CLEAN WATER.

SHE USED TO SPEND FOUR

HOURS A DAY WALKING FOR

WATER, UNTIL "WORLD

VISION" DRILLED A WELL IN

HER COMMUNITY.

NOW A TRIP TO THE TAP

TAKES ONLY A FEW MINUTES.

THE REST OF HER TIME IS

SPENT TENDING TO A SMALL

VEGETABLE GARDEN THAT

FEEDS HER FAMILY AND

NEARBY COMMUNITY.

YOU TAKE WATER FOR

GRANTED, BUT FOR US HERE,

IT IS GOLD.

OUR CHILDREN ARE CLEAN,

THEY ARE HEALTHY, AND THEY

CAN GO TO SCHOOL.

George: MIND YOU,

FETCHING WATER ISN'T JUST

TIME-CONSUMING; IT'S

PHYSICALLY DEMANDING.

KANSI USING A JERRY CAN, A

BRIGHT, YELLOW PLASTIC

CONTAINER TO CARRY THE

WATER.

OKAY, DON'T DO THIS ON TV,

OKAY.

FILLED TO THE BRIM, IT

HOLDS FIVE GALLONS AND

WEIGHS 40 POUNDS.

IMAGINE CARRYING FIVE

GALLONS OF WATER EVERY

DAY.

AND HERE IN AFRICA, A

WOMAN TRAVELS ABOUT

15 MILES ON AVERAGE PER

DAY.

George: EXPERTS SAY

THERE IS A WATER CRISIS

THAT THREATENS A FUTURE

FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS

OF PEOPLE.

YET AID GROUPS LIKE "WORLD

VISION" AND OTHERS ARE

WORKING TIRELESSLY TO

BRING CLEAN, SAFE DRINKING

WATER MUCH CLOSER TO THE

PEOPLE WHO NEED IT, IN THE

HOPES THAT ULTIMATELY THAT

ACCESS WILL MEAN

EDUCATION, INCOME, AND

HEALTH, ESPECIALLY FOR

WOMEN AND CHILDREN HERE IN

AFRICA AND AROUND THE

WORLD.

GEORGE THOMAS, CBN NEWS,

REPORTING FROM KALIFI

COUNTY, IN SOUTHEASTERN

KENYA.

Gordon: WHAT A

WONDERFUL THING AND

WONDERFUL STORY.

PROVIDING FRESH WATER FOR

VILLAGES IS JUST AMAZING.

I GOT EXPOSED TO THIS MORE

THAN 20 YEARS AGO IN THE

VILLAGES OF INDIA.

AND IT WAS LIKE GOING BACK

IN TIME.

AND IF THERE WAS A

VILLAGE, WELL, IT WAS A

GREAT BLESSING FOR

EVERYONE.

IT MEANT BABIES WOULD GROW

UP TO BE ADULTS.

AND IT MEANT WOMEN WON'T

HAVE TO SPEND THEIR ENTIRE

DAY JUST GETTING THE

BASICS OF LIFE.

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

THERE IS A WATER CRISIS IN

THE WORLD, A LACK OF FRESH

WATER.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.

> HERE IS A WORD FOR

YOU: "THEREFORE, MY

BELOVED BROTHER, BE

STEADFAST AND MOVABLE, ALL

ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF

THE LORD, KNOWING THAT

YOUR WORK IS NOT IN VAIN

IN THE LORD."
