MY ADULT GRANDDAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND ARE NOT SERVING THE LORD. IS IT BIBLICAL FOR CHRISTIAN PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS TO CLAIM GOD'S PROMISES FOR THEM? WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE FORGETS TO CONFESS A SIN OR IF SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING THAT'S A SIN ...
- Time for your questions, and some honest answers.
Gordon, this first onecomes from Patsy, who says,
"My adult granddaughter and her husband
"are not serving the Lord.
"Is it biblical for Christianparents and grandparents
"to claim God's promises for them?"
- Absolutely, Patsy.
Please pray for them, pleaseclaim the promises over them.
They need that, theyneed it in their lives.
Here's a biblical referencefor you, from the apostle Paul,
"Pray for all men everywhere."
That's one, and then the prophet Samuel
he said at the end of his career
as a prophet of the Lord to Israel,
he said, "I have not sinned.
"I have continued to pray for you."
And he was praying forall of Israel, so do that.
Claim God's promises, bless, and curse not,
and realize God wants to save them.
He wants to have them followHim, so keep praying for them.
- This is Joe, who says
"What happens if someoneforgets to confess a sin
"or if someone does something that's a sin
"and doesn't realize it?
"Does God hold it against them?
"I want to live as sinless as possible.
"I'm sure many Christianshave this concern."
- Joe, if you got any problems with it,
just say, "Lord forgive me
"of the ones I don't even remember."
Or, "Forgive me of theones I don't even know."
And that's biblical.
David asked for prayer for that,
especially for the presumption sins
where you know it's a sin,
and you go ahead and do it.
He prayed for that, but he alsoprayed for the unknown ones.
The Episcopal Church PrayerBook had a lovely prayer,
"Things done left undone, things known left unknown,"
when you pray that, you'regonna cleaned from it.
Don't let legalism
Here's another side ofthis, don't let legalism
cloud your relationship with Jesus.
When were your sins forgiven, all of your sins forgiven?
Think this thought, when were they forgiven?
They were all forgiven 2000 years ago,
before you even committed them.
It's covered under the blood, this isn't a license to sin,
but it is license to receive forgiveness.
So take that, and dwell in that.
