[Announcer] This is CBN Newswatch.

- And thank you so much forjoining us for this first

edition on Thursday, December13th, I'm Efrem Graham.

Ahead today, anotherdeadly terrorist attack,

this one in Israel.

At least two people arekilled and here at home

more fallout from illegal investigations

into the Trump Election Campaign.

But will it affect the President himself?

And an adoption agency in New York faces

the threat of a shutdownbecause it only allows

adoptions for straight married couples.

Plus, how some Christiansfrom around the world

are traveling to theUnited States to bring

the message of Christmas tothe city with the largest

Muslim population in the country.

All those stories and much more ahead,

today on this half hour of CBN Newswatch.

We want to begin though,

with the terrorist attack in Israel.

Two Israelis were shot and killed

and two others critically wounded.

Israeli police spokesman,Micky Rosenfeld says,

the search is on for those suspects.

- Two people werepronounced dead at the scene

and a further two were taken

to hospital in critical condition.

Heightened security istaking place in the area

and we're continuing tosearch for the terrorists

who carried out the attack.

We confirmed it wasPalestinian terrorists.

- [Efrem] The attackoccurred in biblical Samaria,

along highway 60 whichis known as the highway

of the biblical patriarchs.

Sunday, a terrorist carriedout a similar attack

about 25 miles away on the same main road.

Seven people were woundedin the earlier attack

including a pregnant woman.

Her baby boy delivered afterthe attack died last night.

Rosenfeld tells CBNNews, security forces are

stepping up measuresto meet the challenge.

- We've seen a wave of terrorist attacks

but at the same time, anincrease in wave of operations

that have taken place withthe peak of those operations

being in fact, over the last 24 hours

where our border policeunits managed to find,

target and during gunbattles that broke out,

two terrorists were shot and killed

from two previous terrorist attacks.

- [Efrem] Also today aterrorist stabbed two police

officers in Jerusalem's Old City.

The were only lightly wounded.

The assailant was shot and killed.

Back here at home, falloutover Michael Cohen's

sentencing is reaching the White House.

President Donald Trump'sformer personal attorney

was given three years inprison for financial crimes

and breaking laws to helpinfluence the 2016 election.

And that wasn't the onlyshoe to drop yesterday.

Just hours after Cohen was sentenced,

the parent company of theNational Enquirer, AMI,

cut a deal with prosecutors, admitting to helping

the Trump Campaign coverup affair allegations.

Federal authoritiesagreed not to prosecute

if the head of AMI agreed to cooperate.

The company admitted topaying Karen McDougal

$150,000 in concertwith the Trump Campaign.

Prosecutors say that and Cohen's testimony

that he paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels

for the same reasonamount to illegal campaign

contributions, which is a felony.

Despite the negativeheadlines, South Carolina

Republican Senator, LindseyGraham downplayed the fallout.

- I don't know if it means awhole lot for the President.

It means a lot in Michael Cohen's life.

Anytime a former of yours goes to jail

it's probably not a good day.

But I've yet to see any evidence coming

from Mr. Cohen of collusion and that's

what started the MuellerInvestigation to begin with.

- At the same time,Connecticut Democratic Senator

Richard Blumenthal calledTrump a co-conspirator.

Here now to help breakdown all of this for us

in Washington DC isCorrespondent Jenna Browder.

So Jenna, what does all ofthis mean for the President?

- Like Senator Graham said, notgood news for the President.

But really it comes down toone Efrem and that is intent.

And it's whether or notthe President knew that the

payments were being madeand if he did it to help

his campaign or not.

It's worth pointing out Efrem, that back several years ago,

when presidentialcandidate John Edwards was

in a similar situation,a jury did not find

that he was guilty ofcampaign finance laws.

- What is the White Housesaying now, about all of this?

- Well so far this morning, Efrem,

silence from the White House.

But President Trump'sattorney, Rudy Giuliani

did speak to Yahoo Newsand this is a statement

that I'll read from hisinterview with them.

He said, "Cohen is acompletely dishonest person.

"I've never heard of alawyer that pre-recorded

"their client withoutthe client's permission.

So tough words from Rudy Giuliani,

the President's personal attorney.

You know Efrem, it's worth pointing out

that this may not be theend for Michael Cohen.

He could testify againin front of Congress

if he's called to do so.

- Alright, we'll be watching for sure.

Jenna Browder reportingfor us from Washington.

Thank you for your time.

The Senate will soon vote on a major

criminal justice reform measure.

Tonight on CBN's FaithNation, we're gonna break down

what's in the bill and lookat why many faith leaders

are backing it.

That is on Faith Nation, today at 6:00 pm Eastern time

on the CBN News Channel.

The Senate is expectedto vote early next year

on President Donald Trump'spick for Attorney General.

Bill Barr, who alreadyserved as Attorney General

in the 1990s underPresident George H.W. Bush.

Amber Strong brings us this look at Barr

and explains why some conservativesare hopeful about him.

- With a resume dating back to the 1970's

as a CIA Analyst, William Barr

is a staple around Washington.

In the early 80's he beganwork for President Reagan,

eventually serving asAttorney General for Bush 41.

- Respected by Republicansand respected by Democrats.

- [Amber] During hiscareer, the 68 year old

served as a boss toRobert Mueller and on the

General Council for Verizon.

His views on issues such as Roe v. Wade

and immigration excite manyRepublicans and conservatives

are hopeful he'll bringstability to an embattled DOJ.

- Conservatives shouldbe demanding from Barr

assurances that he'll cleanhouse at the Justice Department.

The establishment's gonnabe asking the question,

will Bill Barr be brave enough to stand up

to President Trump?

Frankly, the questionshould be will Bill Barr

be brave enough to standup for President Trump?

- [Amber] And that'sthe very thing that has

some on the left and the right concerned.

Particularly when itcomes to past statements

from Barr, seeming to criticize aspects

of the Mueller Investigation.

- I'm glad the Presidenthas nominated someone,

some with relevantexperience in the Department.

What I'll be looking foris, will he be working

to guarantee the independenceof the Department of Justice?

President Trump in a number of tweets

has said things thatsuggest the the Department

of Justice and the Attorney General really

work for him, rather than for the country.

And that's a misunderstanding.

- [Amber] Barr's receivedpraise for his thoughts

on counter-terrorism post 911,

but that too could be an issue.

- I'm concerned thathe's been a big supporter

of the Patriot Act, whichlowered the standard

for spying on Americansand even went so far

as to say, the PatriotAct was pretty good,

but we should go much further.

- [Amber] Even still, mostRepublicans are confident

it will be an easy confirmation.

- It shouldn't be all that difficult.

This is someone who has along record in public life.

My guess is that whenit's all said and done,

when it comes to a votein the full Senate,

that he'll have a strong support.

- No date yet on thatconfirmation but it's likely

to take place in early 2019.

Amber Strong, CBN News, Washington.

- As President Trump reimposedharsh economic sanctions

on Iran last month, hackers scrambled to break

into the personal emailsof American officials

who were supposed toenforce those sanctions.

That is according to the Associated Press,

based on information from acyber security group in London.

It found that the hackershad been trying to

get into the emails of treasury officials,

employees of Washington,DC, think tanks and

other key international figures.

The Associated Press pointsout it is another sign

of how deeply cyber espionage is embedded

in the fabric of relationswith the US and Iran.

And another international hacking incident

is simply one of the otherstories we are following

of your right now in the CBN Newsroom.

United States investigatorsbelieve hackers

working for China'smain intelligence agency

are behind a massive data breach involving

as many as 500 million guestsof the Marriott Hotel Chain.

The government source talkedwith the Associated Press

on the condition of anonymity and was told

the November 30th breachis of particular concern

because Marriott is frequently used

by the US Government and military.

The revelation of suspectedinvolvement by China

comes amid heightened tension with trade

with the United States.

The Justice Departmenttold Congress this week,

China is working to steal trade secrets

and intellectual propertyfrom US companies

in order to harm America'seconomy and to further

its own development.

The nation's obesity ratehas reached the highest ever

level this year, accordingto the United Health

Foundation's 2018 study.

It now exceeds 30 percentof the adult population

and is up five percent from the past year.

Researchers say theFoundation's annual report

and findings on obesityspotlight the serious problem

which can lead to cardiovascular disease,

diabetes and cancer.

Doctors with the Foundationsay, they hope health

professionals andgovernment leaders will use

the findings to exploreand to create opportunities

to better support peoplein their communities

in all aspects of their health.

The Foundation alsoreported the suicide rate

in America increased16 percent since 2012.

It is the lowest in New Jerseyand the highest in Montana.

Grammy award winningartist, Chance the Rapper

is stepping away from the studio

to spend quality time with Christ.

I'm on a plane he said, headed out of the country

on my first sabbatical.

I'm going away to learn the Word of God

which I am very admittedlyvery unfamiliar with.

He wrote that on anInstagram post you see there.

The Chicago native hasbeen outspoken about

his faith and in the pastand has even mentioned

Jesus in the lyrics of his songs.

Now he wants to seekGod's face in a new way,.

He later invited followersto study Galatians with him.

Now, you can find outmore on these stories

and others at CBNNEWS.com

- New York officialshave given a Christian

adoption agency an ultimatum.

The agency supportersamounts to the organization

must either violate its Christianbeliefs or be shut down.

New Hope Adoption Agencyonly places children

with married straight couples

because of its religious convictions.

But the New York StateOffice of Children and Family

Services disagrees with that policy and is

threatening to close the agencydown if it doesn't change.

The Alliance Defending Freedomis representing New Hope

and says the Office of Family Services

is violating the Agency'sfreedom of religion.

I spoke with Jeana Hallockwith the ADF about the case.

Does the state requireagencies to place children

with non-traditional parents?

- The state has issuedan ultimatum to New Hope

Family Services that it must either place

with unmarried and same sex couples

or that it must submit a close out plan

for its adoption program.

- Why do you think NewHope is being penalized

for this policy?

- Well, New Hope is a faithbased adoption provider

that has been doingfabulous work providing

adoption placements to theState of New York since 1965.

And it's placed over a thousandchildren in loving homes

during that time.

And the state, basically,as part of its routine

supervision and discoveredNew Hope's religious beliefs

and that it works consistentlywith those religious

beliefs in placing childrenand at time it issued

the ultimatum to stopdoing that or shut down.

- What do you think this meansfor families and children?

- Well, more adoptionnon-profits mean more children

being able to find loving homes.

And so that's really the tragedy here,

is that if New Hope isshut out of the adoption

program there will be fewerchildren that will be placed

in loving adoptive homes.

- What kind of precedentcould this set for other

Christian adoption agencies?

- Every individual has theright to live according

to their religious beliefs.

And adoption providers are no different.

The Constitution protects that freedom.

So if this were to go the wrong way,

that could be a reallychallenging situation.

- Are you seeing thingslike this anywhere else?

- This is really unique in that

this faith based providerhas no government contracts

and accepts no government funding.

And it's really the firsttime that we've seen

an adoption providerbeing willing to stand up

against the government inthese types of circumstances.

- So Jeana, where doesthis case stand legally

for the agency right now?

- We recently filed thelawsuit and we are asking

the court to provide anorder that would allow

New Hope to continue operating consistent

with its religious convictions

while the lawsuit moves forward.

- So is the agency right nowstill allowed to operate?

- Currently it is operating, however, it's not able

to take on new adoptive families.

And it's also not ableto commit to working

with new birth parents at this time.

So they are keeping a list of those people

and they're hoping thatthey're going to be able

to continue working with them.

- Is there a timeframe forhow long you think it's

gonna take to unfold 'cause this seems

a bit of a crisis forthe agency at the moment.

- That definitely is a crisis.

Unfortunately, we don't have a timeline.

But we are asking for immediate relief.

- Alright, Jeana, thankyou so much for your time.

We will certainly continueto follow this story.

(swoosh)

So how are you celebratingChristmas this year?

Perhaps you're spendingtime with family and friends

and attending church services.

Well, a group of Christians from countries

around the world areleaving the four walls

of their church buildingsand their countries

and sharing the love of Christ with people

in Dearborn, Michigan.

The city is home to America'slargest Muslim community.

Missionaries Sid and Elizabeth Doyle say

this Christmas Christiansare bringing the good news

to Yemenese, Syrians, Iraqisand Lebanese living there.

- God has brought the worldright here to our doorsteps.

And because of thatwe've made it our mission

every Christmas to takeabout another 200 believers

from all different churches, door to door

in the Dearborn area andsing carols, pray with

all the families.

Last year we gave 300New Testaments out to

the different people at their doors.

Many have never heard ofthe true Christmas story.

So it's a great opportunityto spread goodwill.

- And Gary Lane, ishost of the Global Lane,

a CBN program on the CBN News Channel.

He's featuring this storyon that program tonight.

And he's here now totell us more about it so.

I understand this is quitean impressive international

group of Christians whostarted this outreach.

How does this work?

- Well, let me just tell youfirst, Dearborn, Michigan,

about 90,000 people live there.

It's the home of the Ford Motor Company.

And years ago, Lebanesecame there to get jobs

in the factories and nowwe're seeing Yemenese,

Syrians, Iraqi refugees, asylum seekers

that have come to Dearborn.

And it's home to about 40,000 Muslims

and 80 percent of them are Shia Muslims.

And so how this isworking at Christmastime,

last weekend, weekend before, churches got together,

about 200 of them total.

They went out and they started caroling.

They go to businesses.

This looks like a shopping mall.

But they also went to a Lebanese bakery,

sang carols and then theystarted talking about Christ

and the nativity.

What is Christmas all about?

What do we believe as Christians?

And they found that people were very open.

Each one of them received a gift bag,

inside lots of goodies andincluding a New Testament.

- [Efrem] Well, we know thiscity has the largest Muslim

population in the country.

How are Muslim's responding?

- Very well.

Matter of fact you know, once you build relationship

Muslims are very welcoming, they're very warm.

Arab people want you tocome into their home.

Come in, have somethingto eat, have some drinks

and we'll talk this over.

But they found that manyof the people that they

knocked on their door, theyfound that many of them

didn't even know about Jesus.

They didn't know about Christianity.

They lived a very shelteredlives in their own

home countries and nowthat they're in America,

maybe they speak their own language,

watch television, that is non-English,

so they don't know much about Christ.

So they shared the good news with them

and many were very receptive, Efrem.

- What's the message in all of this?

- I think the message isat Christmastime, sure,

go to church, meet withfamily and friends.

Enjoy the holiday.

But also get out of thefour walls of your church.

Go out into your community, share the good news

that you have, thatyou want others to know

that Jesus told us toshare with other people,

to share with the whole world.

And it's not justMuslims, it can be anyone,

who doesn't know the truth.

- Amen the Great Commissionapplies to us all.

- Yes, it sure does.

- Indeed, so be sure towatch Gary's interview

with the Doyles on theGlobal Lane Program.

That is tonight at 9:30 pm Eastern,

on the CBN News Channel.

(swoosh)

Coming up, an historicchurch in the Holy Land,

the Church of theNativity, gets a renovation

just in time for Christmas.

And a 102 year old, goes skydiving.

But it wasn't just for thrills,

it was for a good cause as well.

Gonna have those storiesand more when we come back.

Stay with us.

- An historic renovation is taking place

at the Church of theNativity in the Holy Land,

just in time for Christmas.

Visitors can look atancient mosaics and columns

being restored at the churchin the town of Bethlehem.

It was built in the fourthcentury, in the spot

where Jesus was believed to be born.

The renovations startedin 2013, after UNESCO

declared the church a World Heritage Site.

And the project isexpected to be completed

by the end of next year.

Looking real good.

A 102 year old woman inAustralia is reminding us

it is never too late totake a leap of faith.

Irene O'Shea is now theoldest woman to skydive,

breaking the previous world record.

O'Shea jumped out of the planeat about 136 miles per hour.

She did that on Sunday.

Now her dive is not onlybreaking the world record,

she also raised awarenessfor a disease that killed

her daughter who died of motorneuron disease years ago.

O'Shea sees skydivingas a perfect opportunity

to honor her daughter's life.

I'd love to do that soon as well.

Time now for your ThursdayThankful and today

I leave you with this thought.

God is not finished.

If all is not well, guess what.

All is not finished.

Work and wait on the Lord.

He who has begun a good work is faithful

and he will see it to completion.

Check the scripture, it is loaded

with God's promises to you.

With that word, makethis a Thankful Thursday.

Well, that will do it forthis edition of CBN Newswatch.

Thank you so much for watching.

Be sure to make this a Thankful Thursday.
