New Hope for Bopha
- Bopha's goiter
- Goiter-free!
CBN.com - Bopha is 18 years old and lives in the Kanpi village. For the last four years, she has had a goiter. Her neck hurt, she had frequent headaches, weakness, and a very fast heart rate. She was unable to go to school or work.
Her family was desperate to take her to a hospital for a goiter operation, but they did not have money to pay for the surgery. They only earn two dollars a day cutting grass, which also supports the extended family. Even two of their children work to help ends meet.
While CBN was shooting a telethon story about one goiter surgery that happened near her village in February 2008, Bopha’s mother came and told them about Bopha. She cried as she shared about the goiter and her husband’s paralysis and high blood pressure. CBN staff brought new hope to Mrs. Chan and Bopha when they arranged for her surgery in a hospital in Phnom Penh.
Following the successful surgery, Bopha was happy, healthy, and strong. Her family is thrilled for her.
“I would like to thank CBN and donors who helped me,” Bopha said. “You are giving me a new hope and joy and the ability to have a normal life. I can work again.”
