Prayers Ring Out in Hong Kong
CBN.com – The busy central business district of Hong Kong is constantly filled with bustling businessmen and eager shoppers--especially during the Christmas season.
In 2007, the crowds had a chance to witness a reminder of the meaning of the season, and to share their prayers with others.
CBN Hong Kong placed three crosses in Statue Square, which is located in the heart of the Central business district. The tallest reached more than 5 meters.
Each cross had small hooks arrayed on the beams, where prayers could be hung.
These prayers were written on the Holiday of Hope bells that CBN has been sending out for years in the United States. This year, Hong Kong CBN took those bells, translated the message into Chinese, and offered them as gifts to the people of Hong Kong.
Anyone who passed by the crosses could write their prayer on one of the bells and hang it on the cross. They would receive another bell as a gift from CBN Hong Kong.
The response was very uplifiting. More than 6,000 bells were hung on the crosses from December 19-Jan 1. Each day our volunteers handed out the bells to a wide range of people, from captains of industry to tourists to taxi drivers.
Then all of the prayers were gathered up, and the staff at CBN Hong Kong is now praying for each and every one of those people. We divided the big pile of bells, and we are now in the process of praying that God will hear their prayers, and that each of these people will seek to know His will.
One simple prayer written in a youthful script said, "I pray that I can seek God with all my heart, soul, and mind."
Now that Christmas is over, the crosses have been removed. A10-foot-tall cross is in the window of the CBN Hong Kong office, looking out over a busy highway.
It has been a blessing to make this love gift to the people of Hong Kong, and to be able to pray for them.
