CBN.comAsseta is a very happy woman because she can now take care of her children, provide them hot meals, and send them to school. But until recently, her family’s future was bleak.

“My husband lost his job as a cook,” Asseta said.  “He was so disappointed that he abandoned me and all five of our children.”

With no marketable skills, and no way to make a living, Asseta depended on kind neighbors for help.  But with so many mouths to feed, the help always fell short — and hunger became a frequent guest in their home.

“Life was difficult,” Asseta admitted. “There were times when I spent the whole day looking for something for the kids to eat—but failed.   I had no where to turn.”

Then a ray of hope came to Asseta and her friends in the country of Burkina Faso.  First, Operation Blessing dug a  well for her community, which provided fresh drinking water.  Then, to help widows and single moms like Asseta, Operation Blessing set up a gardening project.  Women in need were given a patch of ground near the church, seeds, fertilizer, and training on how to grow different crops.

“I grew carrots, lettuce, cabbage, onions, and other vegetables on my patch.  Then I would take them to the market place to sell,” Asseta said.

From the proceeds they make from the vegetable farm, the women put their savings in a co-op and at the end of the month, everyone receives an equal share of the profit.

Asseta said, “From the profits, I have been able to put the children into school, buy new clothes, and feed them.  Now they can eat a healthy, balanced meal straight from the farm!”

Because of the gifts from just one 700 Club partner, Asseta and her family are now living better lives.

“Thank you CBN for being a blessing to the locals here and for your partnership,” she said.
