HONG KONG - Surprise races through a small group that just learned a Taoist priest accepted Jesus as his Savior. The news jolts this curious bunch. They’re visiting a Hong Kong church to find out more about the Christian faith.
“The response is always good,” Group Leader Peggy says.
Inquisitive moments like this play out every Sunday at the North Point Alliance Church when group leaders show an episode of The 700 Club Hong Kong during the weekly outreach meeting. Ministry leaders pioneered using the program as an evangelism tool five years ago in hopes of reaching non-Christians and teaching new believers.
“Our church bulletin advertises the theme and description of the next week’s class, and 700 Club episode,” Peggy says. “I can see many of the participants reading the bulletins. They are attracted by the topic of that week’s program.”
Many of them identify with the testimonies shared on the program. The healing of a woman who suffered from post-partum depression after the birth of her third child moved several women in one fellowship group so much that they willingly prayed to Jesus.
“They eagerly shared and talked about why faith made that big change,” Peggy says. “Then they came forward to pray with me, and they came again to the next meeting.”
Group leaders start each meeting with a 700 Club Hong Kong episode, which opens the door for participants to talk about life issues. In each case viewers can see the love and grace of God working in real-life situations.
“I think the most popular feature of The 700 Club Hong Kong is that most of the testimony guests are people from Hong Kong. This makes is easy for the people to relate to the stories,” Lei Fook Alliance Pastor Poon says.
Pastor Poon began working with the same teaching method three years ago when CBN added discussion guides for each episode, which focus on Biblical principles and scriptures exhibited through each testimony. The 700 Club Hong Kong has been reaching Chinese around the world since 2001. So churches just pick episodes based on the subjects they want to discuss.
“We keep a catalogue of all 700 Club Hong Kong episodes,” North Point Alliance Pastor Lawrence says.
The church library lends members and other discipleship groups the videos for use in their homes or to share with neighbors. When you give to CBN you help produce programs like The 700 Club Hong Kong, and make outreaches like these possible. People can learn about Jesus and develop a closer relationship with Him.
