A Whole New Life for Leiguo
- Leiguo before surgery
- Leiguo after surgery!
CBN.com Little Leiguo was found deserted in a corn field. He was wrapped in a blanket, thin and tiny, running a fever, and could hardly find the strength to cry. His umbilical cord had not yet fallen off and was infected, which caused the fever. Many villagers crowded around the poor abandoned baby, yet none were sympathetic enough to adopt him once they saw his cleft lip and palate.
That day turned out to be blazingly hot, and when he was told that nobody would adopt the baby, Mr. Wang ran out there and brought the newborn home. ”In spite of his cleft lip and palate, we shall adopt him and send him to doctors,” Mr. Wang told his wife.
Three days later, with the help of the local government, Leiguo was officially adopted into the Wang family. The little baby’s entrance into their family brought a new financial burden unto the poor family; however, everyone was glad he was there. The Wangs already have four daughters. The oldest is 26, but she is not married yet. The second oldest is working as a nurse far from home and earns about $70 a month. The third has just dropped out of school because they cannot afford her education. The youngest daughter is the only one going to school.
The couple runs a small grocery store, which only earns about $40 a month. As Leiguo grew, his health improved, but his parents still worried about his cleft lip and palate. They did not have the money to pay for his surgery. But then good news arrived – their neighbor’s baby had a cleft lip and palate and was able to undergo surgery with the help of CBN China.
CBN China also performed Leiguo’s surgery thanks to the generous donations of CBN partners. He was so healthy after the procedure that all of the villagers could hardly believe he was the same baby they found sick and abandoned just nine months ago.
Learning that the donors were a group piano students and parents, Wang’s third daughter, who’s just dropped out of school, was moved to express her gratitude: “On behalf the whole family I say thanks to our kind-hearted donors…your generosity…has surely given him a new life and us new hope and happiness.”
