Manju's New Wheelchair
CBN.com – Manju is Santhamma’s 7-year-old son. He is the oldest of three children. Manju was born physically challenged. He crawls or depends on someone else to carry him from one place to another. His mother couldn’t take him to school, so Manju would stay home alone all day. His mother felt terrible.
Munju’s family lives in Cuddapah where they make a living as venders, selling items such as safety pins and hair clips. They usually earn just enough to provide food for the family. But sometimes they come up short financially, so little Manju begs on the streets.
One day while working Santhamma noticed a large crowd in front of the village office. She learned that Operation Blessing was going to give out free wheelchairs for the physically challenged. She was so happy that she couldn’t believe her ears. She rushed home and brought Manju to the office and enrolled his name there. Then she waited eagerly for the day when her son would get his own wheelchair.
Finally the day arrived! On May 26, 2008, Operation Blessing held a Wheelchair Distribution Program in Cuddapah where 100 physically challenged people received free wheelchairs. Manju was one of the recipients.
Manju was so excited to get his own wheelchair. He said, “This is my chair, and I will never allow anyone to touch my chair.”
Santhamma stood beside Manju, her heart filled with joy. She was happy that her son would not have to crawl or be carried in order to move.
“I thank Operation Blessing for giving us such a wonderful wheelchair,” Santhamma said. “Now it is easy for Manju to go to school, and I don’t have to see him crawling, which is a painful sight.”
