More than Just a Pro Soccer Player
CBN.com – Nicola Legrottaglie, 32, loved soccer. He played in several elite Italian soccer clubs, but his dream was to make it to the pros. Nicola understood that he needed help from above, so he asked God, “Lord, if you help me…[become a] professional soccer, I will become a missionary.”
God blessed Nicola, helping him become a well-known international soccer player. He was chosen to play for the national team of Italy, which included a million-dollar contract.
“But when I became a successful soccer player, I forgot Who brought me here,” Nicola admitted.
He started indulging in worldly pleasures such as money, cars, and girls. Still he wasn’t satisfied.
“I lost self esteem. I lost credibility. I lost everything. I knew that I was wrong, because I knew the Bible, but I was empty,” Nicola said.
Nicola started praying and asking for God’s help. Soon, he met a very special person who shared with him what it really means to be a Christian.
“I met Tomas Guzman, who played with me in the Siena Soccer Club,” he said. “Tomas taught me [about] coherence.”
“Accepting Jesus Christ in your life is a very simple thing” Nicola says. “It means opening your heart and asking Jesus to enter. Don’t look for religion. Look for Jesus because only He can change your life.”
Now Nicola hopes to be a role model for his team-mates and fans around the world.
