CBN.comA whole generation of Salumu villagers endured sickness and disease from their water before Operation Blessing provided fresh water for the community.

Some of the women were bitten by snakes on their way to fetch brackish water from a pond, which the villagers shared with cattle and other domestic animals. Other villagers died from drinking water with diseases like cholera. Many complained about diarrhea when they drank the discolored water from the pond, especially after pouring in too much chlorine to purify it.

Hajara lost one of her children to cholera and attributes her son’s death to the water he used to drink from the pond. She was unable to get her son to a distant health facility because their village is isolated with no means of transportation out (until recently).

“I could only watch in despair as my son grew lean before my eyes, as he lost vital body fluids from the diarrhea,” she recalled, misty eyed.

The closest hospital is about 20 km away and many villagers have died from their illness before getting to the facility for adequate medical attention.

For Rhoda who was bitten by a snake a few years ago on her way to the stream, the new welll in her community is a huge relief.

“When I was bitten by the snake, I was in bed for two weeks because of the pain. I was scared to go to the stream after that incident,” she said.

Now Rhoda thanks God who heard about the challenges her community was facing and sent Operation Blessing to help.

The people of Salamu Village now have a reason to smile! Operation Blessing recently provided a well in their community, which will provide water for an estimated 1,000 villagers who previously depended on the murky pond and open water holes.

Kim Mitchell from CBN WorldReach told the community that CBN partners are happy that the village will benefit from the well.

Mitchell said, “May the well be a blessing to you and your children.”
