Philippines: Help for Hana

CBN.com - PHILIPPINES - Hana and her three brothers and sisters went to live with their grandmother after their mother died. But she has been too feeble to work, so Hana has had to manage the household on her own.
Every day, Hana and her sister pick through the neighbor’s garbage, looking for cans and plastics to sell. On a good day, Hana makes about 60 cents, just enough to buy a few cups of rice.
“When I pick through trash, I’m always afraid that I will catch a disease,” Hana says. “But I do it because I want to help my brothers and sisters.”
CBN’s Operation Blessing first met Hana at a medical mission in her town. There we provided all of the children with free medical care.
Then we met with Hana and discovered that none of children had been able to attend school because of a lack of funds.
Mavic Mercado from Operation Blessing in the Philippines was happy to be part of the group that helped Hana and her siblings. “We paid fees for uniforms, school supplies and money for the bus,” she says.
Operation Blessing gives the children money each month to buy food so they will never again have to pick through the trash to make money.
“I’m really happy about going back to school!” Hana says. “Now I’m sure that I will become a teacher someday. I thank God for Operation Blessing.”
