Typhoon Makeover for Emma's House

CBN.com PHILIPPINES - Emma huddled with her young children as the hurricane hit.
"The wind and rain were so strong that our house shook. When the walls started coming down, I was afraid that my children would be pinned under them," Emma says.
When Typhoon Durian struck the Philippines, it destroyed everything in its path including Emma’s home and small farm.
"I couldn’t help but weep. We lost everything. I felt so sorry for my children. They were drenched in the rain and sick."
Emma’s husband has to work far away for a construction company in Manila. He sends money each month for food. But there was never any left over to rebuild their house or replant their crops.
"There was nothing we could do but pray and hope that someday we would get back on our feet again."
CBN's Operation Blessing had come to the region to provide disaster relief and medical care and decided to help Emma rebuild her damaged home.
When we learned that the closest water supply was a 30-minute walk from Emma’s home, Operation Blessing dug a well for the entire community.
To help Emma plant new crops, we gave her water buffalo — something she has never been able to afford.
"The water buffalo is a great help! Now, it’s easy to haul firewood and to bring our produce to the market in town."
Emma’s farm is doing so well that she is now able to help her neighbors when they are in trouble. As for the house that Operation Blessing built, it hasn’t leaked even once, in spite of new typhoons and extra long rainy seasons.
"We thought that the storm was the end of us, but Operation Blessing helped us out through the goodness of their hearts. I surely thank God for them!"
