CBN.com – VIETNAM - Lan is 46-years-old and already a widow. When her husband died eight years ago she had no savings and was forced to enter the work force doing hard manual labor. For her efforts she earned a dollar a day, and that had to feed four people.
“I didn’t mind the work,” Lan said. “But it was so stressful to have to go out and find new jobs every few days.”
When CBN’s office in Vietnam learned of Lan’s plight, we asked how we could help. Our field staff evaluated Lan’s skills and helped her set up a small café in her home.
“I always dreamed of having my own café to sell food,” she said, “But I couldn’t save enough capital to start one. Now it feels like the heavens are beginning to open up and pouring a blessing on me!”
That same afternoon, the CBN staff took Lan to the market and bought the equipment, furniture and food supplies that she needed to get started.
“I didn’t think things like this happened in this world. It’s unbelievable!” Lan exclaimed.
With CBN’s simple investment of around $50, Lan’s life has changed for the better. She no longer has to do manual labor or constantly look for work. She now makes enough to feed her children and pay her bills.
“Now I can stay home with my children and still be assured that there will be food on the table every day! Thank you so much!” she said.
