living water wells and cisterns
The Gift of Water
CBN.com INDIA - Shankar owns a tea shop right off a busy highway in northwest India. Water is critical to his business, but his only source was on the other side of the freeway. Just getting there was very dangerous for him and his daughters.
“Once, I was crossing the highway and suddenly a big truck was heading straight towards me,” Shankar said. “He slammed on his brakes and I jumped out of the way.”
"It is very scary seeing the big trucks," said his little daughter, Chanda.
And even with the risks they take to get it—the water isn’t too safe to drink.
"It is very muddy and dirty. I need to filter it with a cloth before I can use it," Shankar said.
Shankar was a Hindu, but one day he told the local Christian pastor about their problem. The pastor knew that there were many other villagers on their side of the highway who didn’t have clean water, so he contacted Operation Blessing.
Operation Blessing’s living waters team drilled a well for Shankar’s family and the rest of the village.
"The hand pump is close to my home, so I don’t have to cross the road. We have lots of fun getting water from the well," Chanda said with a smile.
The well also opened the door for the pastor to share the gospel. Shankar prayed to receive Jesus as his savior, and publicly expressed his new faith by being baptized.
"Jesus Christ has given us everything. When we needed water, he provided us with water. I give you my heartfelt thanks. Because of you, my entire family is filled with joy," Shankar said.
