EL SALVADOR - “There was hatred, bitterness, a root of terrible evil in my heart.” Consumed by evil thoughts, Sandro Luna committed murder to avenge his father’s death; landing him in an El Salvador prison. But God had a plan to save the troubled man that would involve a childhood friend, CBN counselors, and Dr. Pat Robertson’s book The Secret Kingdom.
“I never wanted anything to do with God. If something hurt, my heart cried. But I did not want anything to do with Christ.” Sandro says. “But then my friend came to visit with the message God had for my life.”
He hadn’t seen her for years, but she visited at just the right time. By then the darkness had overtaken Sandro as he spent his days confined to a tiny solitary cell. His friend shared the Good News of Jesus Christ. It moved Sandro so much that he immediately surrendered his heart, and God healed it. His life began to change as he immersed himself in the Gospel.
“I didn’t do anything else, but read the Word, pray and fast.”
Noticing the difference, the guards gave Sandro more freedom by moving him out of maximum security. That’s when he met CBN counselors who frequently visited the prison to share God’s Word. The literature they handed out to the inmates included a Spanish translation of Pat’s book The Secret Kingdom.
“I didn’t understand the phrase ‘Kingdom of God’ or the ‘Kingdom of Heaven.’ When I began to read The Secret Kingdom, I found the answer.” Sandro explains. “I see that the central core is our Lord Jesus Christ, and I realize that I am in that kingdom!”
Sandro learned quite a bit through reading the Bible and Pat’s book at the same time.
“Through that book, I learned about the law of reciprocity, that what you sow is what you will harvest.”
At the prison, books like The Secret Kingdom are used for Bible studies. So far Pat’s book has touched the hearts of 650 inmates who also accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Now it’s sparking a strong desire in them to continue getting to know God and growing their relationship with Him.
“Having The Secret Kingdom book in my life has supported the desire to study the Word more, get to know God more, and get closer to Him to live more experiences with Christ Jesus,” Sandro says. “Now God has called me to ministry of evangelism.”
Not just anywhere either, but specifically to be an evangelist where he must serve out his sentence.
“My desire now is to win souls for Christ right here in prison—to harvest a good crop by planting God’s Word. And I learned this from The Secret Kingdom,” Sandro explains.
