CBN.com - NIGERIA - Ringben was born to a mentally unstable mother and a father who cared little about her well-being. She was born with a cleft-lip deformity, which added to her already bleak situation.
As a young child, she was left to roam the streets in search of food in trash heaps and containers. It was in this pathetic state that a social worker found her.
“She was dirty and disheveled when I saw her walking in the streets, she was hungry and crying and other children were running away from her because of her cleft deformity,” said Victoria, the social worker.
Moved with compassion, Victoria brought her to the attention of Operation Blessing, and her case was quickly addressed. Ringben had a successful corrective surgery sponsored by Operation Blessing (OB) when she was two years old. Not done with her, OB found her grandfather and entrusted her to his care while efforts were made to enroll her in a special private school for children with speech impediments.
Today Ringben, who is now four years old, is in school and learning how to speak properly after her surgery, she is also being taught how to read and write! The transformation in her has been truly remarkable. The scrawny, malnourished child that was living off the streets a few years ago is unrecognizable. She is robust and healthy, excitedly clapping her hands to the nursery rhymes she is being taught at her new school.
Only God can pick up someone from the rubbish heap and give them hope and a future. Thank you CBN partners for saving her life and giving her a chance.
