Young Sah Kengne had little education because his family could not afford it. He dropped out of school at a very early age, and like most African children without formal education, he had no choice but to learn a trade. He worked as a mechanic until he lost his job in 2004.
By the time his work as a mechanic ended, he was no longer a child, but a husband and father of two. He briefly worked in western Cameroon for a soap manufacturing company, but Sah Kengne soon made the decision to move from his native village of Bafoussam to the east of Cameroon for better economic opportunities.
Instead, Sah Kengne became friends with members of a gang and eventually became a member. He learned many ways to earn “quick” money, such as selling fake diamonds or gold, “washing of black money” (a form of money laundering), and robbing people at gun point.
One day during an attempt to sell fake diamonds, the gang stopped and robbed a house at a gun point. The owners exchanged fire to defend themselves. One of the bandits was killed; another was arrested as the others escaped. Later, the police were able to round up the rest of the gangsters and arrested them. Sah Kengne was one of those arrested and was faced charges of armed robbery and attempted murder.
It was in his cell while awaiting judgment that he happened to watch a Le Club 700
Hi beloved brothers in Christ, I am a prisoner in Bertoua Central Prison. I had a hearing scheduled, but the court was adjoined for another hearing on that day. Please pray for me, so that the judge will be more lenient towards me, for I admit that I am guilty. Please let me know as soon as you receive this message.
When the counseling center received his message, the counsellors contacted him to learn more about his case. They encouraged and prayed for him while waiting for his sentencing. After the sentencing they contacted him again by phone. Sah Kengne expressed his joy and gratitude to God and CBN. He told CBN that the judge had been merciful towards him and sentenced him to ten-year in jail with charges of armed robbery, illegal possession of arms, and attempted murder. He knew that God had intervened in his judgment, so he decided to surrender his life to Him.
After he accepted Christ, San Kengne told the guards: “You need not take me back to my cell in chains, for I have no intention of running away. I cannot do it because I have given my heart to God. I am no more that man I was when I first entered here; I am now a new man!”
San Kengne is now a faithful viewer of Le Club 700
