HUMANITARIAN RELIEF

One Water Tap for 1200 Villagers

CBN.comWhen 1200 people share one water tap that’s only available for a few hours each day, there is trouble.  Every day, scores of people push, shove, fight, threaten each other and insult each other to quench their thirst. Battles are fought for a pot of water.

It is survival of the fittest. There is no reprieve for the people of this village in south India, who are deprived of water.
Shabad village’s primary public water source is a single tap connection set up by the authorities. Water is pumped by an electric motor and supplied through this tap to the villagers. Electricity is supplied for only a few hours in a day to this village. Hundreds of people gather around the tap to fight for their share of water that disappears within a few minutes. The water problem in this village is miserable, especially during the dry season and summer.

The local pastor who ministers among the poor people was very upset with the growing number of gruesome incidents and the grave water problem in the village. Although he comforts them through his prayers and words of encouragement, he felt helpless about the water problem. One of his friends told him about CBN’s Operation Blessing India ministry and how it is helping thousands of people with the Living Waters program. The pastor hoped that he could infuse new life to the village. He contacted Operation Blessing (OB) and briefed them about the situation.Well Celebration

The OB team immediately sent an action team and drilled a new bore well in that village. This new bore well was placed in an ideal location that benefited more than 400 people there. The people thanked God, the OB team, and the pastor for helping them with a new bore well. The villagers were really happy that they no longer had to quarrel to get water and the people lived in harmony. Dedicating Well

For the dedication of the well, the villagers decorated the well site and set off firecrackers. It was a festive atmosphere in the village. The pastor dedicated the bore well and prayed for the people and blessed them. They were moved by the pastor's message and the service of OB. The people were surprised to hear that this was the 5000th bore well built by OB in India by the donations of CBN and OB partners. The villagers were grateful for this expression of God’s love for the common people.
