Clean Water for Ukrainian Orphanage

CBN.com – The Melnitsa-Podolsky Orphanage houses 107 children between the ages of 4 and 25. Recently, life in the orphanage has been especially hard. Normally, a water-carrier provides the orphanage with 9,000 liters of drinking water each day, but when it broke down, this put the building at risk of being closed.
Lack of clean drinking water is the biggest problem for this entire Ukrainian region, so the orphanage director was unable to find a replacement for their water-carrier (a large truck that supplies fresh water). It is impossible to dig a well in this area, since even the deepest layers do no provide suitable water.
The orphanage director started writing letters to different state and non-governmental organizations, asking for help, but no one responded. In the meantime, the children continued to carry water to the orphanage in buckets from a neighboring plant, while the orphanage staff hand-washed their clothes in cold water.
“We all had to carry water,” 10-year-old Sasha said. “I wanted to play and run, but we had to go and get the water. I thought that there was no one who could help us with that. So I started to pray to God.”
The orphanage director didn’t see any way out of this difficult situation, but she decided to call Operation Blessing, the organization which had helped the orphanage several years ago purchase vaccines and stop an epidemic of Hepatitis A in the orphanage. Operation Blessing helped the orphanage by donating $3,000 to repair the water carrier.
The orphanage director, with tears in her eyes thanked Operation Blessing, saying, “I would like to thank all of you, on behalf of all our children, for your kindness and for your heart to our children. I am so thankful to you and hope that you will never leave us without your help!”
