CBN Film Raises Awareness and Brings Hope

C.I.S. - Surrounded by darkness; the pungent smell of raw sewage burning their tender noses; the constant threat of death by starvation, disease or violence overshadowing every action. This is the plight of the Ukrainian street children. It’s the heart of the CBN film Makarenko from Mariupol.
Produced by CBN's studio in Ukraine, the film recently took first place among 12 applicants in its category "World of Childhood, Programs About Children" at the 5th Ukrainian television festival "Discover Ukraine!" Vitaliy Putintsev, one of the organizers and jury members, made a comment about the film.
"I was personally stunned by this film more than by any other film. I gave the highest score of 10 to only three participants of the festival, but I would give Makarenko from Mariupol an 11!” exclaims Putintsev.
Though winning a national festival is a great honor, CBN staff made the film for a much different purpose. The film is designed to raise awareness about the modern day problems of orphans who suffer child abuse, indifference and cruelty. The main character is Gennadiy, a pastor who committed his life and ministry to serving abandoned children.
The character is based on the real life efforts of a local pastor named Mokhnenko. He would pull the children out of urban basements or sewers and put them in the “Pilgrim Republic” rehabilitation center. So far more than 3,000 children have been helped.
“This film makes the biggest impression because of its artistry and of course, due to the hero," says Vitaliy Putintsev.
Makarenko from Mariupol is a strong example of genuine sacrifice, and the immense love of God towards man! CBN Ukraine staff members are thankful to all CBN partners.
“We are grateful to all partners for supporting this film and making it possible to enter it into the awards. Also, because of you we are able to tell the whole world about God and His faithful followers,” says a staff member.
When you give to CBN you help fund many efforts to not only raise awareness but also bring healing and hope to orphans and vulnerable children around the world. Become a partner today!
