My Dream -- Chen Liang's Story
CBN.com My name is Chen Liang and I am 18 years old. I‘m an orphan from Wangjiayu Children’s Welfare in Fuyang City, Anhui Province. I’ve had cerebral palsy from when I was very young, which led me to lose the ability to walk like a normal child. Some children regularly made fun of me and imitated the way I walked, which always upset me greatly. Because of the teasing, I didn’t dare go near crowded areas or talk with others, but instead, I confined myself to a small area within the orphanage. I spent my first 13 years growing up this way. During this period, I fiercely wished I could be healed. How I wished that I could have legs like a normal person! If only I could walk like a normal child, play with others and never be mocked again. However, our orphanage had very limited finances and I thought that my dream could never happen.

Recently, I heard some good news. Mr. Wang, our orphanage director told me that there’s a charity organization called CBN/Operation Blessing willing to pay for surgery to improve my condition. After I heard this I was too excited to sleep that night. Throughout the night I kept thinking of how I could pay back those kind-hearted people once my legs were healed. These thoughts kept me awake the entire night. In the early hours of the following morning, I packed my bag and headed to Beijing with Mr. Wang. Once at Beijing Boai Hospital, we had several consultations with their doctors and soon after, I went in for surgery. After the surgery, the nurses took really good care of me and I recovered well. Now the way I walk has improved greatly. I know that over time, after much practice and hard work, I will be able to walk normally again. Then my dream will come true.
I sincerely thank the people from CBN/Operation Blessing who helped me tremendously. It astounds me that the act of kindness by those whom I have never met has changed my whole life. You have also given me the faith and courage to live. I will never forget your goodness and grace.
