CBN.com INDONESIA - Many people in Indonesia are still recovering from the massive tsunami that brought devastation and destruction to much of the region in 2004. Bustami (age 31), his wife and three children survived the disaster, but only with their lives. All their belongings were gone from their home in Alue’On Meulaboh, West Aceh. Bustami got beyond his depression, took what little money he had and opened a small business making and selling chips to support his family.
His business grew slowly. Every day, Bustami delivered his chips to small shops nearby his house on foot. But his small business faced bankruptcy because of the rising material prices at the market, such as flour and coconut oil.
“The flour price was 10 thousand rupiah/kilo. Now the flour price is raised to 20 thousand rupiah/kilo. So if I buy flour, I won’t have enough money to buy oil,” Bustami said.
The price of flour doubled, a main ingredient in Bustami’s chips. That’s when he heard about the financial support programs of CBN’s Operation Blessing that help businesses get in better position to prosper. With their help, Bustami was able to save his chips business and the threat of bankruptcy lifted.
Now his chips business is growing. He’s able to meet not only the need of his family and send his two children to school, but also those of his neighbor who had no job by employing him.
“I would like to say thank to Operation Blessing, because has already helped me by lending me money. I used to send chips to 10 small shops. But now after getting financial support from OB, it is more than 100 small shops become my customer. I really thankful with OB financial support program.” Bustami said.
CBN’s Operation Blessing helps meet God’s desire for His love and provision to be offered to people thoughout the world. Many lives were impacted by this act of compassion: Bustami, his wife and children, and his neighbor at Bustami’s chips business – each know that God loves them because of what they’ve experienced.
