Orphan rescued
Mercy for Moldovan Boy's Life
CBN.com Seven-year-old Slavic Hetman is just about everyone’s favorite child at Father’s House in Moldova. When you see his smile, and hear him laugh, you’d never guess that he endured a terrible childhood.
When he was a baby, Slavic’s mother carried him around when she begged, and pinched him so he would cry. When Slavic was just one-and-a-half-years-old, his mother laid him down on a pile of dirty clothes, and left him. Several days later, worried neighbors found the baby and called Father’s House, which is sponsored by Orphan’s Promise.
When the caregiver from Father’s House came to Slavic’s home, they were saddened by what they saw.
“The house was like a junkyard. The walls were black and covered with cockroaches,” Oksana, a Father’s House caregiver said. “We saw a baby lying on the floor on a heap of clothes. Slavic was holding stale bread, and there were cockroaches all around him!”
The Center’s staff members share their memories about Slavic, “When he came to live with us, he was so tiny and he cried a lot. When he cried, he would have epileptic seizures. We prayed for him all the time.”
After a month of prayers, good nutrition, and restful sleep, the seizures stopped. Today, Slavic is a healthy and happy 7-year-old.
“I really like it here. The grownups play with us, sing to us, fly kites, and ride bikes,” he said with a smile. “I like pretty much everything about living here.”
Slavic learned about God at the Center. One night, he prayed with the pastor.
“I asked Jesus to care for me, and never to leave me,” Slavic said.
Anyone will tell you that Slavic is almost always happy, and that he makes others happy too.
“He has more fun than anyone else. It is a joy to be around him,” Oksana says. “I want to thank CBN for helping us. Because of you, we can invest in the lives of these children. We can watch God heal them, and give them lives filled of joy. Thank you so much”.

Slavic also has some words of gratitude for the people who help support this Center: “I am grateful to you because the Lord will always be with me now! Thank you!”
