CBN.comUKRAINE - Lina’s parents died when she was a little girl, leaving her to be raised by her grandmother. When her grandmother died a little over a year ago, Lina and her younger brother were sent to the nearest orphanage to live and finish their education.

“After my grandmother died I stopped believing in God and praying. I just felt so abandoned,” Lina said.

Lina is one of over 700 orphans spending the summer at a large children’s camp in a southern region of Ukraine. The camp experience is an annual vacation for children living in Ukrainian orphanages. These government sponsored camps are typically closed to any evangelical programs, but God was making a way through CBN WorldReach for Lina and others to benefit from a nine day visit with volunteers from Orphan’s Promise Kiev.

Each day Orphan’s Promise workers met with small groups and taught lessons from the “Life Skills for Youth” curriculum, a program developed especially for older orphans. Through teaching the youth lessons in life skills, doors were opened to read the Bible and share personal testimonies of life changing faith in Jesus.

When 18-year-old Lina confided in an Orphan’s Promise camp leader, she was told about the love of Jesus and His gift of salvation. When asked if she would be interested in reading the Bible, she answered with a resounding “Yes!” and soon after accepted Jesus into her life. After the first quiet hour with her new Bible, Lina came running out to share with the group that she had already read the first five pages of Matthew.

Olya, one of the volunteers was deeply touched through her interactions with the girls in her group. "Through the time at camp I was able to see several young girls open up their hearts to me, share their stories and begin to walk out of the darkness in which they were living. They were walking out of darkness towards the light of Christ. I now continue to hold up these girls in prayer. God has put a special place for them in my heart.”

Thanks to those who support CBN and Orphan’s Promise, volunteers were able to bring Jesus’ love and truth to the orphans in three summer camps this summer; as well as other outreaches to orphans throughout the world. Please join CBN and be part of God’s outstretched hand to orphans throughout the world and many other evangelical and humanitarian efforts.
