Living Water Wells and Cisterns

A Well-United Family

Teme

CBN.com Ten years ago a young bride, Teme, entered the village called Patarpadi in Udaipur district of Rajasthan state, but adversity struck her with problems one after the other. In addition to the family problems, Teme has been facing acute water scarcity.

In this Adivasi tribal village, 80 percent of the men don’t do any work. They just sit at home chatting with neighbors. Teme’s husband Laxman was one of them.

Having four children in the family, she is burdened with preparing food for them, going to her place of work by walking for 2 kms and coming back in the evenings. Then she goes with her empty pots for 1.5 kilometers to fetch water from the open well that is the only source for the entire village.

“My husband hardly supported me in fetching water even when I was pregnant. Sometimes my old uncle used to help me in fetching water,” says Teme.

Like Teme, many women in the village were facing problems in fetching water.  Many times villagers approached the political leaders and the government officials but nobody has taken any initiative to help them out.

While she was working as a laborer, she heard about Jesus when some of her co- workers were talking about Him. Slowly she became inclined towards Jesus, developed her faith and now trusts in Him. Teme started praying for her children and for her problems. Many times her husband beat her for her strong faith in Jesus.

Then, in answer to her prayers, Operation Blessing International visited this village and drilled a well.

At the time of dedication, in the presence of all the villagers, Teme shared her experience with great joy.

“On behalf of all our villagers I thank God for answering my prayers through OBI and their kind gift, this bore well," she said. "From now on I need not walk a long distance to fetch water and need not look for anyone’s help to carry sufficient water. I can spend more time with my husband and my children to re-build our family relationship and I can spend more hours at work to earn more money.”

As she was sharing, tears welled up in her eyes. Listening to Teme’s testimony, her husband broke down, repented for the past, and reconciled to his wife. He also openly confessed that he wants to follow Jesus Christ.
