Nepal: TV Host Puts Faith in Action
CBN.com NEPAL – Beni hosts New Life, a 700 Club style TV show that airs weekly in Nepal and neighboring countries. In late September 2009, a viewer named Manoj sent a letter to the show asking for 20 copies of New Testaments. Manoj lives in a remote area of southwestern Nepal where he attends college. He included a list of his friends and their addresses who were also watching New Life. Beni personally helped get the New Testaments in the mail to Manoj and his friends. He was encouraged to know that these young people had heard about Jesus through watching New Life.
Along with each New Testament, the mailing included a one page summary of the gospel and prayer to accept Jesus. There was also a request that if they prayed to accept Jesus, to write and tell the ministry. Five months after mailing these New Testaments, Beni received another letter from Manoj. He reported that 19 of his friends who received the books had accepted Jesus as their savior and were attending church. He also listed several questions regarding things Beni said as host of New Life and some personal questions about marrying his non-Christian girlfriend and sharing the gospel. Beni answered Manoj’s questions and began discipling him through regular correspondence.
CBN works closely with a partner ministry to air New Life and handle follow-up in the area. Letters from viewers are on the rise and give testimony of the impact of Christ's message on the audience.
One viewer, Sundar wrote, “…the testimonies of people’s lives have brought me closer to God. Since you have offered, please send me a Bible. I have been watching this program every week. Please pray for me, too...I humbly request you to send me gospel tracts to share about Jesus.” Beni sent him a New Testament with the same gospel summary and prayer. He asked Sundar to write back soon telling CBN and New Life how his life has changed.
Another viewer, Mosa wrote, “I was changed after watching this program. I believe this program was made to make Jesus known to others. Many people like this program, and many have changed.” Beni wrote back telling Mosa that they are glad the program has helped him.
