CBN.comLAOS - Tingkham’s day revolved around fetching water for her family. At age 13, she was hiking an hour for drinking water and walking 15 minutes for water used for cleaning and bathing several times a day. Each trip, she was equipped with a rod that balanced two water buckets. The drinkable water came from a dug-hole at the river nearly a mile away.

“It was very far away and the road was narrow passing through the bushes and difficult to travel; quite uncomfortable, especially during rainy season,” Tingkham said. “There were some animals running around, and sometimes we were bitten by snakes or scorpions.”

Her journey for drinking water was not only long and dangerous at times, but once she got there, she had to wait in line for a turn to fill her buckets. The underground water flowed out slowly.

“We used to have stomachaches and flu because the water was not clean,” Tingkham added.

Operation Blessing Laos learned of their need for clean drinking water. In August, 2009, the families in this area of Savannekhet Province in Laos received a bore-well from the supporters of CBN Operation Blessing.

“We have a new bore-well near our house!” Tingkham said. “We are so happy and thankful. Fetching water is very comfortable. I don’t waste time waiting. I can fetch water any time, even during the night time.”

She also now helps care for her 3-month-old sibling, works more diligently with her schoolwork, and has some free time to have fun being a child.

“I want to help my parents plant vegetables, chillies, and eggplant next to my house, and clean and take care of the livestock (such as buffalos and cows),” she said. “Thank you so much for helping us. I am very happy now. I wish you and the donors good health and long life.”
