A Wheelchair Makes its Mark
CBN.com – Operation Blessing in El Salvador recently received 500 wheelchairs from the Free Wheelchair Mission ministry. The wheelchairs were distributed around the country to people in need.
Mrs. Isabel Escobar, 82, is a recipient of one of these wheelchairs. A few weeks ago, this elderly woman fell and fractured her leg. Since both she and her husband Felix do not have much money they could not afford a doctor. And to add to this already difficult situation, her 70-year-old husband, a construction worker, had to leave his job to care for his wife. Having no children to help them, Felix and Isabel were alone, with no income to support them.
Isabel could not care for the house, much less herself, and now there was no way to survive. It was then that her husband heard about a medical campaign held through Operation Blessing in the town of Comalapa, Lotificacion Miraflores. Members and doctors from the OB team visited the couple after hearing their story. They brought a wheelchair for Isabel, as well as medicine to relieve her pain. The Escobars also received enough groceries to last them a month.
As they received the gifts, especially the wheelchair, Isabel said, “I can’t explain the difference this makes for me. I know there are others in worse condition than I, but this a huge blessing for me. I am so grateful…I can go to the bathroom alone, clean the house, and my husband can go back to work.”
The Operation Blessing team’s doctors took advantage of the opportunity and shared the Gospel with Felix and Isabel. Both accepted Christ. Thanks to Operation Blessing, the Escobar family heard about God and received the help they desperately needed.
