A Farmer's Desperate Need for Seed
CBN.com EL SALVADOR – The Garcia family of 11 need their crops to thrive to put food on their table each day. They depend solely on their farm for survival. They grow corn, beans and other vegetables that they sell at market and also prepare for family meals. When their farm was washed out by several days of torrential rain in 2010, they not only lost all their crops, they lost all the seeds that they usually gleaned from the crops to continue the farming cycle. Without seeds and the money to get more seeds, the Garcias’ hopes for restoring their farm were gone.
Young 10-year-old Jose Garcia and his 12-year-old brother are their father’s faithful farmhands. They work the farm and attend school full time. When their family’s future looked so uncertain, the boys worried about their siblings, parents, and grandparents. They understood the severity of the problem and shouldered the responsibility for finding a solution with their father.
As it turns out, CBN’s Operation Blessing was in the same area providing free medical care for the needy. One of the Garcias’ neighbors told the humanitarian workers about Jose and his family’s desperate situation. Within a week, Operation Blessing arrived at the Garcia home with a big surprise: bean and corn seeds and fertilizer! Jose’s mother was overjoyed.
“It was very important because we needed it and didn’t have the money,” Mrs. Garcia said.
The boys and their father planted the seeds and spread the fertilizer. The seeds produced a healthy crop of vegetables and the family farm returned to providing a stable income for the family. The fertile soil grew strong crops and the soil of the Garcia family hearts were touched by the loving-kindness shown them.

Still other seed fell on fertile soil. This seed grew and produced a crop that was a hundred times as much as had been planted!" When he had said this, he called out, "Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand." (Luke 8:8, NLT)
