Biblical Curiosity Grows in Hindu Nation

CBN.com – NEPAL - It’s a question every parent can expect: Where do babies come from? A young girl from Nepal recently wrote to CBN asking a similar but much deeper question about Jesus.
“If Jesus is God, how could Mary be his mother?” Jyoti asked.
Jyoti lives along the western border of Nepal and regularly watches Khushi Ko Sansar, the Nepali-language version of CBN’s Happy World. The fact that Nepal allows CBN to broadcast this program is a major milestone. There are 29.3 million people in Nepal. It’s a mostly Hindu nation with 86 percent of the population practicing that religion.
“Only a few years ago, Nepal was closed to Christian programming,” says CBN ministry partner Rob Piaskowski.
But now the 30-minute weekly children’s program airs in homes across Nepal with the Hindi language version airing in the United Kingdom, Pakistan and throughout India. Hosts and characters weave Biblical truths and values into every episode. In addition they invite the children to join the “Jesus and Me” (JAM) Club and learn more about the Lord. Today, more than 23,600 children are members.
Jyoti joined the JAM Club and CBN has been sending her booklets about Jesus and the Gospel ever since. While reading the third book Jyoti became curious. She had many questions including, “If Jesus is God, how could Mary be his mother?"
Staff members quickly responded giving Jyoti all the answers she needed. Plus, they sent her the New Testament to read too. Besides her letter, Jyoti sent a poem and hand drawn pictures of the characters and other things seen on the Happy World program. It’s a clear indication of how much she likes Happy World. This is not surprising. In fact, Khush “Happy” the furry co-host has attained celebrity status with the Nepali children.
