INDIA - Crippled by fluorosis and unable to provide for his family, Gopaiah felt helpless and frustrated until Jesus answered a prayer.
Gopaiah lives in the Nalgonda District of Andhra Pradesh India with his wife Jayamma and their two children. Excess fluoride in their drinking water weakened his bones, causing them to deform and the muscles to atrophy.
“My legs hurt a lot when I move from one place to another,” Gopaiah says. “My ankle gets swollen. The pain is terrible.”
He isn’t the only one enduring such a debilitating condition. Many people in the village suffer from fluorosis. There is a well with safe water near their homes, but Gopaiah and his neighbors are denied access to it because of their caste.
“Most of the time, we are just driven away and cursed. It is only when we plead with them for some water as we get very thirsty that they will pour some water in our cupped hands,” he says.
Concerned about their safety, a local pastor approached Operation Blessing Living Water for help and a team was sent to drill a well. Before starting the work, team members prayed asking the Lord where to drill so they could find clean, safe water. And God answered. Tests revealed that the water from the Living Water bore well is fluoride-free and safe for drinking. This miraculous answer to prayer astounded the entire village.
“We are all happy now for the bore well provided by the Living Water team. We now have plenty of water and can draw it anytime. We are also able to attend to our jobs regularly and on time,” one villager says. “I thank the donors and the Operation Blessing Living Water team for their help.”
Thrilled to experience God’s miracle working power first hand, Gopaiah’s wife Jayamma shared her feelings at the well dedication.
“If my children or I were affected by fluorosis, what would happen to their future? Who will take care of my family? All my questions were answered by Operation Blessing’s help. We thank God and the Operation Blessing team for rescuing our lives from fluorosis, by giving us a fluoride-free well!”
Not only did God answer the prayer for safe drinking water, but He also restored Gopaiah’s self-worth when Operation Blessing helped this husband, father and provider set up a grocery shop so he can support his family.
“I thought I was useless and a burden to my family; but God is concerned about me,” Gopaiah says. “He transformed me and gave meaning to my life! Thanks Operation Blessing!”
