Long Hollow Baptist: 'It's Electric'

By Jewel Graham

CBN.com Kids are greeted by colorful animals, an indoor playground and an oversized tree house when they enter this church.

Jeff Lovingood is the Student Pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church. He says, “That’s what we try to do from birth all the way through college -- to develop a person to lead worship [and] to be changed by God.”

Just nine years ago Long Hollow Baptist’s youth group had 20 people. These days, 800 to 900 students show up a night…

“Our youth ministry is just exploding,” he says. “The Lord is changing lives. A lot of students have caught the vision of how the Lord wants to work in and through their lives to make Him famous. The neat thing is that they have taken ownership in the ministry. It's pretty electric.”

He continues, “All different types of backgrounds and walks will be here tonight and on Sunday morning. That’s what makes it so much fun. They are all coming together. They play ball together. They have drama groups together; they are in the band together.”

These Tennessee students don’t just keep to themselves but reach out to those around them.

“We are the community, and we are the church. Let’s work together to minister to each other and let the Lord do a work in all of our lives.”

However, the focus is not just on the here and now.

Lovingood says, “Most people want to win. We want to win at sports. We want to win all kinds of things in life, and this is really where you win, because they are seeing life change for eternity. Not just for the short time we have on earth but for eternity.”

That’s why Long Hollow Baptist is America’s Church of the Week.
