CBN.com – “This trip to Jos, Nigeria was the most incredible journey that I’ve ever been on in my life,” says Pat.
Pat was one of the members of a church in Grangeville, Idaho that recently traveled to Nigeria on a mission. They loaded their luggage with quilting tools, sewing machines, and dresses to give to women to a poverty stricken village in Nigeria. Most are HIV positive. Most have children.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the women and children who uh are working,” says Pat. “Children who are five carry water buckets on their heads for their family because they don’t have running water.”
Almost seventy women in the village are part of a vocational training program that teaches the women quilting skills. The quilts they sell help them support their children.
“We also were able to, through the donations from the church, purchase quilting mats and rotary blades and rulers so that it helps these women, that are HIV position, to be able to uh go out and make a living for themselves to pay for their medicines and just daily needs,” says another member of the team named Tammy.
The group brought two sewing machines and we were able to give enough money to purchase 10 more machines. The group also brought new dresses for the women and toys for the children and window screens to protect the families from malaria.
“It was just really awesome. They were just dancing and singing and it was, it really touched our hearts. We got to bring some of the women to Christ, which was awesome. Praying with the women was one of the most awesome things,” says another tem member.
Rick Jorgensen has been the church’s pastor for almost 8 years.
“We have people who love the Lord and they are excited about doing what they can to reach out into this community and far beyond this community to the lives of people who are in need,” says Rick.
