CBN.comOriginally 33Miles started out in 2005 with three members: Jason Barton, Chris Lockwood and Collin Stoddard.  For five years, the three band members took their fresh sound and message to venues across the country. In 2006, the band, which started in Franklin, TN, signed with INO Records.  Their album peaked at #8 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers albums chart and #16 on its Top Christian Albums chart.  Their song, “There is a God,” was played as the wake-up call music for the Space Shuttle astronauts on their STS-128 mission on September 3, 2009.

Recently Jason says God had been preparing Collin’s heart to step into full-time worship ministry. As Collin’s heart headed in a different direction, Jason says their music did, too.  With influences from rock and country, the duo forms a unique blend that stands heads and shoulders above the crowd.

Both Jason and Chris are accomplished vocalists, songwriters, and musicians. Together there's an electricity and passion that comes from a shared sense of purpose. "We know why God brought us together," says Chris. "We really believe that God has called us to the church. We feel like we've been called to remind the church and ourselves of who we are in Christ and whom we serve. As Christians, we have grace, mercy and power beyond comprehension and understanding. We just want to encourage the church to look to Jesus. Don't forget who you are in Christ."

Jason gave his life to the Lord at the age of nine during a revival service at church.  Chris was baptized at a young age but during high school, he recalls the Lord being in hot pursuit of him.  He was going to church and involved in ministry but still lived his own life, not pleasing to God.  In college, Chris surrendered his life to God and eventually got baptized again.

Their purpose is reflected in their name, which is a simple metaphor for the 33 years that Christ spent on Earth, and how He lived them. "He was a friend to the friendless, He loved the unlovable, and He gave of Himself selflessly by dying on the cross in our place so that we could live forever," Jason explains. "We want to follow Christ. We want our 'miles' to have purpose and meaning and to make a difference for the Kingdom of God . We aren't promised a certain number of miles, so what are we going to do with the “miles" that we are given?"

He continues, “Our message is to really focus on what God is doing in our lives today.  A lot of people live for the future, and a lot of people live in the past, but very few people tend to look at their lives and think about what life can be like right now.
