CBN.com — Mei, Yu, and Liang could never escape the brutal winter winds and year-round torrential downpours in their small village because they lived in an old leaky house made of rotting wood.

"Some places in the house got frozen," Liang said. "And even when I wrapped myself up in a blanket, I still could not stop shivering. Because it was always damp, there were rats and bugs."

His sister Mei added, "The sound of the wind was so scary. It made me cry. My school books and my bed got all wet. And I wondered how long we would have to live in this awful place."

The Zhangs are the poorest family in their village. Mr. Zhang plants corn and potatoes miles away; Mrs. Zhang farms nearby. Together, they barely make $500 per year. So they couldn't repair their roof or even think about getting a new home.

"I remember one time there was a thunderstorm and the roof was leaking really badly," reports Mrs. Zhang. "My husband was away working. My children and I drained the water off by ourselves. We prayed until four in the morning."

They sat by the fire many nights, but still ended up with sores on their hands and feet.

Mr. Zhang says, "We did our best, but as a husband and father, I blamed myself. So in the most difficult time, I told the Lord, 'I give everything to You and know that You will provide what my family needs.'"

Then, Mr. Zhang's boss told him about CBN and our ongoing help in his village. CBN got to work fast, and the Zhangs pitched in with the construction.

Today, they don't just have a new house. They have a home! It's concrete, and fully equipped with a heater and new blankets, so the children are always warm, dry, and protected.

Mei says, "Now I feel so secure!"

Liang adds, "When we moved into our new home, my sister and I jumped all around like two happy little monkeys! We sleep really well and are not afraid of anything."

"My children know that we could never have done this on our own," Mrs. Zhang shares.

Mr. Zhang concludes, "I give all the glory to God. May you be rewarded for what you have done. May you be able to bless more people with the love of God just like you blessed us!"
