She Sees Her Family Again

Nolindile spent her days tending to her crops, collecting firewood, and managing household chores.  Then, over the period of just a few months, she went blind.

“I lost sight in my right eye first, then my left. It troubles my heart to still have the energy to work but now I just sit and am dependent on my family for everything. I tried cooking on my own but burnt myself. I feel like a burden. I would have been better if I got sick and died than living like this.” - Nolindile

Nolindile’s husband and family all work together to make sure she is taken care of.

“She was happy before. Now, she can't do anything on her own. As a family, we gladly care for her, but it pains us to see her like this.” Keke (Nolindile’s husband)

“The last time I saw some of my  grandchildren, they were barely crawling, now they walk. When they come to me I can’t see them. It makes me sad. I was raised in a very Christian home and miss going to church, but I pray all the time, for God to help me and trust that He will.” - Nolindile

While struggling with blindness, Nolindile was also being treated for tuberculosis at the hospital. The medical staff referred her to Grace Vision, which is supported by Operation Blessing. There, she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. Thanks to your generosity, Operation Blessing sponsored sixty-seven cataract removal surgeries—Nolindile’s was one of them. The day after their surgeries, the patients gathered to have their bandages removed. It was a day of rejoicing. For many, it was the first time they had seen in years.

“I have no words, I am so excited! I can see everything! My family is rejoicing with me. We are all so happy. I never thought that I’d see again. You gave me my life back. I’m no longer lonely or worried about falling. I can do everything myself again. I love to cook my traditional food, with veggies I get from my garden. God answered my prayers. It feels like you were sent just for me. I’m going to take my Bible and go to church with new eyes. I’m so excited to show it off. Thank you to everyone who helped me in my time of need.” - Nolindile
