His Scars Were Healed with One Question

“I heard a voice say…If you were to die right now, where would you spend eternity?” Jordan Wells was just 18, when that question shook him to his core. Though he grew up in church, the pain of abandonment by his parents left a deep void. His mother battled addiction and his father was in prison for drug dealing. “She was a great mom,” He said. “But she struggled with her own demons. She would disappear for days at a time… she struggled with alcohol and drugs…and my dad was absent.” At 10 years old, Jordan turned to an older cousin he trusted, hoping to find a father figure. However, instead of protection, he found betrayal when he was sexually abused. “I don't even think I knew it was wrong.” Jordan stated. “When it's somebody you trust, you don't really think of it like that. It made me very confused, and it really sowed a seed in me for a long time to desire what it would be like to be with a guy.”

The sexual abuse lasted for a year. However, it left an impact on Jordan and he started having homosexual desires. By 16, Jordan was living on his own and began secretly living a double life – dating girls while pursuing same-sex encounters. “It became like an addiction,” He described. “I would find these people and go do these things. And that happened for years to the point where it was every month. I was still in a relationship at the time with females, but I was doing both guys and girls…and it was deeply in the closet.” Over the next two years, Jordan entangled himself in the homosexual lifestyle. He wrestled with guilt and shame, longing to honor God, however, the pull of temptation always seemed stronger. “I would cry about it. I would be sad about it,” Jordan explained. “But then I would find myself back doing it and I would promise God I'm never going to do it again. Because I love God, but at the time…I just loved what I was doing more.” Depressed, confused, and completely lost, Jordan chased anything that offered escape – even if just for a moment. “A lot of the drugs and alcohol I began to do was an escape from the pain.” He said. “I struggled with my identity, my sexuality, and feeling like I wanted to be loved.”

Despite trying to fill the void, nothing helped. Then, one night, he had a supernatural encounter with God. “I heard a voice say, if you were to die right now, where would you spend eternity? I just knew for certain that I was an eternity in hell.” He spoke. “That scared me to death. I cried out to God and said, ‘if you don't let me go to Hell, I'll serve you.’” in that moment, Jordan surrendered his life to Jesus. He forgave his parents and cousin, began attending church, and took his first steps toward healing. “I began to really spend time in the word and fasting and seeking Jesus.” He said. “I was reading my Bible constantly and it was a beautiful season.” When Jordan was 22, his father passed away and the grief he experienced brought temptations from his old lifestyle, to return. However, this time he stood firm in his faith. “The temptation's going to find all of us,” He stated. “I had to understand that if I'm not yielding to the temptation, I'm actually not in sin. I just feel like it was an understanding of I love God and I'm going to continue to pursue him regardless.”

Today, Jordan is completely set free from same-sex desires – and he’s been walking in freedom for over six years. He’s now married to Latisha, and together they’re raising four children. Jordan is grateful to God for setting him free. “I made up a decision that my love for God and His presence in my life is more important than anything else in life.” Jordan explained. “Even when I fall, I know there's a loving God there to catch me…and that is everything. God is love.”
