Messianic Bible Teacher Zola Levitt Dies

I had the privilege of speaking recently at the Colorado Christian Writers Conference -- one of the premier conferences for Christian communicators. On the second night of the conference we were treated to a concert by renowned worship leader and pianist, Marty Goetz. The concert was a breath of fresh air from an honest and humble Jewish man who is happy to say that he has found his Messiah, Yeshua -- Jesus of Nazareth. One particularly memorable segment of the concert was his biographical song, "A Jew Born Anew."

I had a wonderful conversation with Marty after the concert and he asked if I had heard that Zola Levitt had died. I was shocked when I heard the news. I had a delightful conversation with Zola last summer (watch for that interview on the Spiritual Life channel of CBN.com in the days to come). Marty told me that Zola had a fast moving form of cancer and that he died in late April.

Like so many other people, Zola Levitt made a great impression on my life. His colorful and informative television shows taught the truths of how Christianity grew from the roots of Judaism -- and how Yeshua is the promised Messiah of the Jews. In the early years of his ministry his program was carried by CBN to a national audience.

Zola Levitt was a Jewish Christian thoroughly educated in the synagogues and brought to the Messiah in 1971. He held music degrees from Duquesne University and Indiana University, having completed his doctoral coursework, and an Honorary Th.D. from Faith Bible College.

He is best known as the host of the weekly national television program Zola Levitt Presents, and was formerly the host of two top-rated radio talk shows — The Heart of the Matter in Dallas, and the nationally syndicated Zola Levitt Live.

Zola was also a widely published author with more than 50 books in several languages, and the composer of some 200 spiritual songs and personally performed on most of his albums.

Zola acted as lecturer and tour host on more than 80 trips to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, the areas of the seven churches, Mediterranean islands, and European capitals. He formerly taught a course on “Christ in the Old Testament” at Dallas Baptist University and gave seminars at other education institutions.

Zola Levitt will be greatly missed. Please pray for his family.
