Churches Mobilize with the Help of Operation Blessing

Last Sunday in Los Angeles, Pastors Tommy and Matt Barnett introduced several people who had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina who were being housed at their Dream Center facility (see my interview with Matt Barnett for more on the LA Dream Center). Later that day, Tommy Barnett called Pat Robertson to tell him that they were making plans to take in another 300 hurricane victims.

The Lord had put the same burden on Pat's heart and so he contacted the leadership of CBN and Operation Blessing to see how we could help coordinate churches to provide homes for the victims of this terrible disaster. We are calling this outreach Project Church Welcome.

Across America, churches and individuals are rolling up their sleeves preparing to help in this time of crisis. Watch The 700 Club over the next few days to learn more details on this massive mobilization effort.

Your Church Can Help

For more information on Project Church Welcome, please call 1-800-700-Club (2582).

As of today, here are some ways that friends like you have helped through Operation Blessing:

  • Operation Blessing's 53-foot mobile kitchen is up and running, serving hundreds of hot meals in Biloxi, MS.
  • Staff from OBI met with the mayor of Biloxi and secured a high school athletic field. Working with the Church of God Disaster Response team, OBI is setting up tent shelters and feeding stations for a large numbers of evacuees.
  • OBI has secured two helicopters and one DC-3 to provide logistic support and command control. Medicine was delivered to areas in need and stranded victims from Slidell, LA were evacuated to a safe location.
  • Operation Blessing's Hunger Strike Force has delivered a total of 24 truckloads of food, drinks and relief supplies totaling 958,284 pounds -- and the trucks continue to run from distribution centers to the areas of need.
  • Operation Blessing is continuing to support mass feeding projects run by The Salvation Army and Southern Baptist throughout the Gulf region.
  • 5,000 cots and 10,000 blankets have been ordered for Operation Blessing staff to place in hurricane evacuee shelters.

Please prayerfully consider how you can help the people affected by this disaster.
