America’s 10th Annual “Scriptures in Schools Week”; Dutch Bishop Says "Pray to Allah"
America’s 10th annual, nationwide, “Scriptures in Schools Week” is scheduled for September 23-29. This is a time for thousands of USA churches and Youth Groups to prepare and organize to take the Gospel to their campuses.
“The only people keeping the Bible out of America’s public schools are Christians. It’s not the ACLU, Supreme Court, or School Boards: It’s just us," says Bob Pawson, SIS Week National Coordinator. "We can remedy this situation by simply bringing in our Bibles by the millions. Let’s fill America’s public schools with God’s Word -- lovingly, graciously, faithfully, thoroughly, and legally.”
Scriptures in Schools Week inspires a bold, visionary enthusiasm among students nationwide, who realize that they are participants and leaders in a cross-generational revival springing from their effective and creative use of "Academic Evangelism" in school.
“Every church in America has public school students and employees in their congregations,” says Pawson. “Please educate, motivate and activate them to bring their Bibles to school. Make it a local missions priority for your youth groups."
"Let's return Bibles to our public schools and restore basic Biblical literacy to all of America's children. Organize now. Hold multi-church rallies and concerts before SIS Week. Wear Christian t-shirts at school.”
“Dare to bring your Bibles all year long. We can make Bibles commonplace texts in America's schools once again," says Pawson, a Trenton, NJ public school teacher. "Tote 'em and quote 'em! And use 'em in class!”
Pawson suggests that Christian students in public schools can creatively use appropriate Bible references to complete some of their in-class assignments and homework. Academic evangelism is an effective, low-key, non-confrontational way of sharing God's Word with your classmates by using your Bibles as legitimate school tools - in class.
"It is legal, friendly, and fun. Christian public school teachers can help by readily accepting such assignments - and by having a Bible in or on their desks (as conditions permit). Parents can participate by bringing Bibles to work."
Christian broadcasters, publications, Internet ministries, coffeehouses, and performing artists are encouraged to promote Scriptures in Schools Week, now through late September. Help activate youth groups in thousands of churches.
Scriptures in Schools Week complements other national events including ‘See You at The Pole’ and ‘Adopt-A-School for Christ’.

Dutch Bishop Says, "Pray to Allah"
A Dutch Catholic bishop has suggested that Christians should refer to God as "Allah" to promote better relations with Muslims according to The Church Report.
Bishop Martinus "Tiny" Muskens of Breda told the "Network" television show that "God doesn't really care how we address Him."
Martinus suggested that "Allah" is a term already used by Christians who speak Arabic. He said that humans are needlessly divided over such terminology. God, the bishop said, is above such "bickering."
The Dutch bishop admitted that his suggestion was not likely to gain widespread acceptance. But he predicted that within a century or two, Dutch Catholics would be addressing prayers to "Allah."
The Church Report said that Bishop Muskens has a history of creating occasional controversy within the Church. He has broken with Vatican leadership to endorse the use of condoms as a means of preventing the spread of AIDS, and in 2006 he traveled to Uganda to endorse the work of a group called Stop AIDS Now, which emphasized condom distribution.
